I would snatch up that BGD G, SI2 if I were you. If you know this is not your forever stone, and the color is bothering you on your current stone, I would live with the SI2 clarity until a size upgrade is possible if I were you. I already posted about how I got a J colored stone that is too tinted to be my forever stone, but it is a gorgeous stone for what I want right now.
Thanks goodness for upgrade policies, eh?

Love your 'that's what he said' in the poll! :) I'm a big office fan too.
I'm in the minority but i voted option 2. I think i'd have a hard time on the "mind clean" side of things with an SI2 for my forever stone or at least long time stone. I'm glad you guys both preferred the G; now you know what you want for sure!

I skimmed so maybe I missed some of the details on your new setting. Re: the lucida setting that you said you like, I have the Vatche X Prong which is quite similar to Lucida setting. It's about 4mm wide at the thickest point and tapers around the back to just under 3 mm. I wear it with a 3mm plain band. Previously I had a thin (2 mm ish), basic solitaire. I like the x prong a lot better overall - it really suits me - but truthfully my stone did look bigger in the thinner setting. I really like the setting you have now.

That is one honey of a gorgeous ring! I love it.. Whatever you do, I know you''ll do what''s right for you. You have great taste, and that will guide you.

Hmmm.. very good food for thought TDM. I do like my setting but somehow it feels too delicate for my hand. Also it is not the same height as my half eternity and I would like it to be.

I am thinking of a half bezel, perhaps like the Ritani or Sholdt below.

Seriously though, it sounds like this SI2 isn''t any more included than your current SI1. I think the mere fact that it''s an SI2 is scaring you, not the fact that you''ll be able to see inclusions. I probably will never go higher than SI2 clarity again because the sparkle of the round hides 99% of the inclusions. The 1% I can see, I know no one else can, so they don''t bother me at all. Now color, on the other hand, is a different story. I definitely want at least an I color for the next stone. Although, no one has said to me that my stone looks yellow, in some lights the tint is definite, and that bothers me. No one else notices the tint; in fact I get compliments on my stone a few times a week. But as we both know, with diamonds being so expensive, something has to give, and I will go higher in color and keep clarity low. Maybe you will also embrace that idea.

I think I mentioned somewhere how I had never even looked at the inclusion plot of my present diamond until I started looking at SI2s. It is messy, but at the same time under 40x magnification you cannot see anything. I suspect that with many SI2s you can see things when they are highly magnified. So perhaps my picture taking hobby will take a back burner for a while
2.gif
If I do end up with an SI2 then I think I will not take photos of the ring at high magnification for a long time, until the worries about inclusions wear off.

My K doesn''t look yellow at all either, and I am sure it is more tinted than your J! I will miss this stone if I trade her in

She is so pretty in so many ways... sniff sniff

But in "some lights"... well you know how it is.

Oh wow, that Ritani bezel is amazing!! Love it!!

I don''t think you could go wrong with either of those settings! I have tried on that Sholdt. I''m thinking of it for a colored stone actually. I loved it. The proportions were just right for me. I have never seen that Ritani in person but I really like it too. I don''t mean to sound negative on the x prong style. Your stone is bigger than mine too so it might look even bigger (relatively speaking) in that setting. I love lots of things about it - the proportions, the side profile, the fluid look of the prongs, the way it is classic but also unique - but making the stone look big is not one of its strengths imo. You know what, last time I checked Pearlmans had a vatche x prong in platinum under their great deals (gently used) for $800 which is a great price. If you are interested, maybe you could have them send you that and the Sholdt (which they have, at least for princess) and the Ritani (if they have it) to compare side by side!

I did see that x-prong, but I am not ready to get my setting, I need to save my pennies first

I have also contacted Pearlman''s already and they said they can send the settings to me to try

haha... don''t tempt me! There''s always next upgrade I guess! LOL!

I am the type of person that would go clarity over size but the extra finger coverage would be oh so nice! I can see your predicament. I would go the smaller size better clarity just for peace of mind. If you can find a pretty good SI2 go for that one.

Remember that upgrade policies presume that the vendor will still be around when you are ready to buy your upgrade. If that might be years, then don''t buy a another compromise, or a stone with issues that will make it harder to resell or trade to a different vendor later.

I just noticed on B&L''s inventory that the G SI2 is sold. Did it go to you dd?

DD- you know I am all for Semi bezel!

I have debated over those exact two, Still am... as I'm sure DH knows I'm ready for another reset or upgrade...lol anyhoot, Think about how much "bezel" you want. they have the same feel but also think about whether you want the slight tapering at the head or graduated shank up at the head like the sholdt? or whether you like less metal like the Ritani, or more metal, like the Sholdt surrounding the diamond. personal preference though. Its nuts to think about all the little variances

Ok, if a halo is out, then I wouldn''t go smaller. You''ve said many times you really want to hit that 1.5 mark as your ideal size. Did the H/I colors that you looked at really have a tint to it? I''m sure you will love the color of the G, but then will you hate the size and regret not meeting in the middle at an ''I'' color but same size or larger?

The Lucida style isn''t boring!! It''s my favorite Tiffany ring! And that style setting may help oomph your stone''s size visual as well. For me, wider settings make a diamond look slightly larger.
Yes, I think a realistic goal is to try and get a diamond *just* under the 1.5ct mark one day. Maybe when I get tenure! Well, for sure when I get tenure
2.gif
If I can hold out for 5 years.

I think I color is too low for what I am after. Although it would not look tinted at all, it would not feel different enough from my current diamond, it is still a warmish white IMO. I don''t think that the H diamond we looked at had any tint. It certainly looked whiter than my current diamond, no question about that. But there is something about the G that looked crisper, more ''bah boom''. Maybe it was just those diamonds? Still I remember so clearly how I felt when I brought home my F color diamond (see picture). There is something so crisp about those colorless stones. There is beauty in my K no doubt (see next post), but I do prefer that crisp look if I am honest
15.gif

Something that attracts me to the BGD GSi2 is that Brian says it is actually closer to an F than a G... which is why he bought it.
That would attract me too -- a near F color at a G price point. I bought an F SI2 from WF for a pendant 2 years ago. It is perfectly eye clean. The appraiser I took it to could not believe GIA graded it as an SI2. He thought it was SI1, borderline VS2. Not all SI2s are created equal, but if you are comfortable with SI1, it is worth ordering an SI2 when a trusted vendor says it is eye clean so you can see for yourself.

and so?, what have you done.....update please.....

I have to say, a dear colleague has a G stone- it is blinding white, you cannot ignore it! the most noticeable ring at the table.

I would go for the eye clean SI2.

I have a friend as well whom I think has an F/G e-ring. I never asked, but it is the whitest most blinding diamond I have ever seen! I don''t think the cut is ideal, but the color is to die for! In large part, her ring is what set me to thinking about a change.
