I got this 6.35 ct cats eye brought by my father from Sri Lanka in the mid 70s.

The stone really gives meaning to its name as in real life it looks like a natural animals eye.

But its not the typical chrysoberyl cats eye and cant really find any similar on the web. The ray is silverblue and floats above the eye in an almost electric way.
The body is heavily included but got many transparent parts that makes more "real".
It got some visable cracks but may just be a sign of an untreated stone or are they serious as to value?

No opinions?

Looks very 'rough'. And, are we sure it's chrysoberyl? Depending in what you plan, you might get a lab report first.

Yes, the refractive index is 1.745 and excludes other cat eyes. Agree it looks "rough". But also very realistic compared to the other chrysoberyl cat eye stone I've got (photo)which is more how they use to look like.

That looks better. It will be impossible to put a $value on it unless you find a buyer. If it has family value for you, I would not sell it. It is not going to be enough to pay for a holiday, a great dinner perhaps, but not more.

Haha, thanks. Guess its a keeper then. My father could be quite crude but unique as the stone suggests. Actually just saw a pretty similar one of 2 ct on Ebay at "buy now" for $500 but without any visable crack.

Merci.

It's around a $50.00 to $100 stone in todays market, maybe less. It's a poor colour and heavily included. A good specimen stone but not a good gem quality stone.

Ok, thanks. Can you refer to any such stone?

They are quite common and are all over ebay for starters.

Understand, didnt really expect any particular value but I quite like its crude look.

Thanks
