Do you have anything to tell us today?

Waiting.jpg

What……who me?
Yes, it did arrive and I barely got back into the office before seeing this.
It’s pink, it’s fiery and it’s small. :halo:

What did I miss... is it a ruby?

Ooh, ooh, can I play?!!! Did you get a pink diamond?!!!! :appl:

Please show pictures!

Where are your priorities, girl?!?

Quit your job.
Go home.
Take pics.
Post them.

That's an order young lady!

Nope, not a ruby. Yes, it’s a pink FCD. To be precise, it’s a fancy intense purplish pink oval.

Umm….Kenny, I hate to say this but I need my job to finance my gem collecting hobby. I promise pictures but probably not today as daylight is running out quickly. I am useless at indoor photography so I’ll need the sun’s cooperation.

Okay, I guess you can keep your job.
Can't wait to see pics. :appl:
So it's sparkly?
That's great to hear because not all FCDs have good light performance, since they cut for color and weight.
Light performance seems to be of less concern than it is with colorless diamonds.

I say, why not try to get the best of both worlds in one FCD?
Fire and dispersion is a big reason we pay those prices for diamonds.

Just to whet your appetite, here is my one sole picture that did not turn out fuzzy or blurry. It was taken when the sun is already going down so it's not the best picture. I will attempt truer pictures tomorrow.

WOAH! It ended up looking washed out once it is posted on PS. ;(

And extreme hardness too!!

Chrono,
That's a nice size for a pink diamond. They're very rare and costly. I heard FCD's went up 20% this year due to Mr. Graff's notoriety buying all the big famous ones.

Very pretty Chrono or should we call you Mrs Graaf!? I love ovals. Looking forward to more photos tomorrow.

:appl: :appl: moreeeee...

Yes Yes, more pics please.
Very pretty color!!

Gorgeous! I want more pics!

I agree we need more pics! :appl:

Ohhh that's so pretty Chrono!

These were also taken yesterday when the sun was going down, so not the best pictures, but all I have until I make another attempt this afternoon. I see the sun shining beautifully outside so it looks like a good day to try again later. I only hope that PS doesn’t wash out the colour in the photographs again. ;(

I'm glad it's big enough to be held in the ring holder.

It looks sort of brown here due to reflection from the 24K gold pendant it is resting on for ease of photography. I wouldn’t want to drop this little thing and never be able to find it again. :errrr:

That's a great one Chrono! The color is a great combination of saturation and still being delicate. Does it through off pinfire or broader flashes?

I've found if you save the pictures as a .png the color doesn't wash out as much. What photo editor do you use?

pretty pinky!! how do you plan on setting her?

Chrono, congratulations, you have an absolutely delightful pink diamond.
I agree that they do pick up colors of their environment and capturing the "true" color ain't easy.

I have also noticed that PS does wash out colors.
I've complained to admin and they think I'm nuts.

I have a Mac and iPhoto, when I save as JPG or PNG then upload to PS the color gets very washed out.
The solution for me is to view the pic in iPhoto then make a screen capture (using SHIFT COMMAND 4 - click on one corner then drag to the opposite corner and let go of button).
This creates a PNG file and places it on your desktop.

If the file size is too large for PS, over 1MB, I'll shrink the window in iPhoto before doing the screen capture.
For some reason uploading a PNG created this way retains the color saturation of the original.

Kenny,
I am so irritated by this problem with PS washing out photos, so thanks for the solution.

Chrono,
Beautiful diamond!

Thank you, ladies and gents, for the very complimentary comments. My next issue is how to set something this small into a ring so I can admire it to my heart’s content.

Oh pshaw, setting it will probably be easier than finding it was. Your east-west EC can serve as inspiration but maybe add small melee for some add'l sparkle. OR, better yet, buy another FCD in a complimentary color and do a by-pass ring :Up_to_something:

Chrono you're going to think I'm nuts but I see blue flashes in your diamond. Forgive me but I can't recall whether it has fluor? I think it does, doesn't it? If that's the case then that's what I'm seeing and that is soooooooooooooooo cool!

These photos are definitely better than the one from yesterday and after seeing what y/gold does to the colour, I would most definitely say this needs setting in w/gold or platinum.

I’ve only just received this FCD and Matata is already enabling me to get another for a bypass ring? I do have a yellow FCD pear but don’t think the colour and shape will go well with each other.

LD,
Not at all; do you think the blue flashes are from the dispersion? I don’t believe I mentioned anything about fluorescence but it has faint blue fluoro. I had some help with cropping these pictures so that they won’t lose too much colour saturation and/or become blurry after cropping. My thanks to this PS friend who did this favour. Perhaps I should post the vendor’s picture to show much better it looks in person than my washed out pictures.

Did you take the photos outside in natural light? If so then I think the blue is the fluor rather than dispersion. It's only obvious in the second photo you posted above but not in the others.

double halo? pink inside and white outside...

How big is it? Did I miss that part?

Ooo I like acebruin's idea!! That would look beautiful and also add some finger coverage.

LD,
The pictures were taken outdoors under natural lighting, although not under direct sunlight.

Ace,
The idea of a double halo did occur to me but I was hoping to stay away from more halos. My yellow FCD is slated for a double halo setting and I usually try my best to only own one of each design. That said, I was playing around with my FCDs and thought that my new pink and yellow go really well together.

Packrat,
It's not a big stone at all, measuring only 4 mm thereabouts.

Davi,
I think the small size of the FCD is why I only see pinfire flashes and not broad flashes. As for photograph editing, I use whatever comes on my PC which is probably not the best editor. Heck, I don't even know what it is.
