Hi everyone, thanks so much for your help with my many questions over the last few days. I have narrowed it down to two stones- an Old Mine Cut, and an AVC. Which would you get?

Old Mine Brilliant
F VS2
7.41 x 6.90 x 4.39
1.65 carat
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
50% table
63.6 depth
large culet

This stone is gorgeous, I love the high crown and small table. I looked at it through the ASET, it was ok, not that much white, but more green than I would like, some strong red and some blue.

I took it to be appraised and the appraiser disagreed with the color rating, he marked it as an E color.

Then there's this AVC http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7089/
What I don't like about it is the measurements are smaller and the clarity grade is lower, and if it's a true F, the color is lower than the other one, and it's also more money.

Which would you get?

If anyone has an AVC, I would love to see photos, or even a video. I have requested these from GOG, but I dont get them until tomorrow.

Just check out GOG's vimeo site for AVC video, for example.

You can even find some on GOG's youtube channel.

I have seen those videos and they are great, but am always looking for more videos, in a lighting that is closer to the lighting that I've seen the other diamond in.

Thanks :)

OK I found a thread with a TON of pictures of everyone's AVC's, so I'm good with the pictures. I think the Old Mine looks pretty close to the AVC, it's so pretty. But I'm so drawn to the light and fire that the AVCs have, and I don't know if the other one compares in that department. It looks really great to me, but I didn't see as much fire and rainbows as in the AVC videos.

Buy the AVC loose and during the return period, bring it over to the other vendor to compare side by side, in as many different lighting conditions as you can find, and to see which you prefer?

I would rather not bring in the AVC, although I want to see it in person, because I need to make a final decision and put down a deposit quickly, and doing that could take a couple of days and then I would have to wait for my refund to come through..etc. I need to put down a deposit this week as I'm hoping for the ring to be finished in about 4 weeks and the longer I wait, the less likely it is to be ready before Christmas, you know?

Hi Hello Kitty:

I'm actually having the same exact problem. I would rather not buy and return the AVC either. Have you seen the AVC in person?
Which appraiser did you use? Can you share which vendor you visited for the Old Mine Brillant?

darn, I wrote a long-ish reply and hit save draft instead of submit. Where can I find my draft?

Go to the my page tag and the drop down menu, select overview, the draft should be there.

Thanks Stone Cold, I found it!

Chatterbox, I saw your thread too!

I have not seen an AVC in person, I wanted to today, but I wasn't able to. I wont get another chance to go until Saturday, but I can't hold this other stone that long. Plus, I'm so tired of looking. I want to make a decision and be at peace with it ASAP. I have seen dozens of stones in person over the course of the last 6 weeks to 2 months- just not the AVC.

I don't know if I'm allowed to say the other PS vendor if I haven't bought the stone yet? Is that against the rules?

Also, the appraiser was David Wolf.

Nope it is not against the rule, it is only for vendors.

OK the OMC is from Perry at Leon Mege. I love love love his cushion halo setting though it's pricey, and the wait for the completed ring is crazy. Although they would of course fast track my ring if I used their stone, so that's another point in favor of that one.

Any thoughts on the video? I tried to upload pics from my iPhone too but they were rejected for being too big.

looks ok from the video but the range of movement is quite small for effective comparison and I am not a cushion expert to tell what is good and what is bad in a cushion without standardize lighting conditions.
