Choosing a setting? Halo or solitaire? Help!

Hmmmm....those are good deals
I'm saving for a pendant after setting my engagement ring....

Thanks for the ideas! My boyfriend and I have decided to go the custom route. I just couldn't find anything that screamed at me. So now I'm trying to find some loose stones. I am still getting the diamond, but I want some kind of "pop" of color perhaps sapphires or something. Does anyone know a reputable site where I can find some small ones to use as side stones? I've also been looking at colored sapphires and really like the purple ones. Any opinions?

Make your way over to the colored stones sub forum and I'm sure they can help you find something. Did you say you will be going with the stone from god old gold or just an antique?

Also will your custom one look anything like that Gabriel and co rope one you posted? I kind of hope so that would be really cool! But I don't know how much your stones will be so I don't know how much money you would have left for the setting

Oh thank you! I will do that right away! We are going with the one from good old gold. And the Gabriel and co setting is our inspiration. I'm so excited to see how this comes out!

Oh I'm excited too! That's going to be an amazingly unique and lovely ring when its finished! I can't wait to see the end result

Nice!
Post when you get it!

I definitely like warmer diamonds and love that antique feel. I love the colors the AVCs and AVRS reflect and how chunky the facets are. That's my biggest thing I want a diamond that will reflects big chunks of colors.

Unfortunately we live in the Washington coast area. Lol I wish it was California! But hey we don't have a say where the Army put us.

Then get one of the Good Old Gold diamonds. (eta: Oh, I see that you did. LOL)
There is nothing in any mall store that is going to compare. There probably is nothing comparable in the more upscale stores, either GOG has been on Pricescope for 10 years and in business far longer. It's not a big deal to ship a diamond. I have bought from them, and I had mine held for pickup at FedEx. If you need to return it, just pay GOG to send you a return shipping label including insurance, and FedEx it back.

Also, GOG's trade-in and buy-back policies are very good.

You said West Coast. There is a man in L.A. who makes settings at reasonable prices, David Klass. Search this forum for his contact information. He doesn't have a web site. He is the_elite_jeweler or something like that on ebay but may have quit selling on ebay now.

Let the jeweler making the setting source the stones for it. Here is purple with M color.

I don't think I'd want it all the time. (If you follow he story all the way through, she traded in the center stone for a whiter one in the I color range or something, then eventually went with an entirely different ring and sold this mounting. I contemplated buying it and having the purple replaced with diamonds but someone else bought it before I could get cost estimates for that. It was made by Wink Jones' bench.)
A good jewel-tone sidestone like ruby or blue sapphire, I would be okay with, especially in good yellow gold.

It's a smaller diameter than the AVR stone you are looking at, and might show a deeper tint even they are both graded M. I just wanted to post it because I didn't want you to get scared off of the M AVR. The L and M colors can look different in different lighting conditions. Almost white in some, candlelight ivory or light yellow in others. The round AVR will probably face up quite white in some lighting. I think L and M are really pretty. I also don''t mind the contrast between a light yellow center stone and very white halo stones. That link shows a M in a halo.

There are pictures of "warm" AVR and AVC in Good Old Gold's Facebook albums, too.
