Choosing a ring style for my chonk finger

It sounds like you really like the sparkle of the rounds. It's very different from an emerald cut. If that speaks to you the most, I say use the budget for that. If you wanted it to have some larger stones i.e. graduated, your budget would allow for it. Here is a graduated version with both five and six stones. And your finger is not chunky. The graduated look may also feel more engagement like too.

I think the first ring was slightly graduated which is nice. I'm on the fence!! I have definitely decided I like 5 / 7 stones but haven't look into the emerald cuts as the ashoka was the first one like that I've tried

off topic but i had to add this in case people don't know about the "chonk chart" :lol-2::lol-2::lol-2:

This is the best!! Hence why chonk is an affectionate term - who doesn't like a fat cat!

@cagerep my profile pic sounds similar to what you're considering, it's a graduated 5 stone with a white gold setting but rose gold band, and I wear it with a plain 2mm rose gold wedding band. I find it timeless and classic, with superb finger coverage!

I highly recommend going with a vendor like Whiteflash or Brian Gavin Diamonds (my stones are a mix from both of those sellers, all AGS000). I actually bought the diamonds and had my local jeweller make the ring, as I was replicating my old e-ring setting. I'm in Australia, and my diamonds seriously outshine anything I've seen locally, and anything comparable is eleventy billion times the price! Plus, the buying process was super easy. Just keep in mind you'd need to pay customs fees/duty if you go down that route.

So, I am not a very heavy woman body fat wise but I am the “true” big boned girl. I wear a US women’s “8” but my ring size is a 9. You just have to enjoy being yourself in your body, big finger size and all. I liked the 5 stone, all the same sizes, go for big and awesome!

Oooh looks lovely! Was your local jeweller happy to do that? I think I read somewhere that often places get pissy if you don't buy the diamonds through them?

Thanks :) I'm not overly concerned but it's frustrating not being able to try things on properly. Your ring in your profile pic is lovely btw I like the side diamonds

Thanks, I am getting a new center diamond as we speak, sticking with the side stooges and design, center will be bigger and we’ll deserved after 20 years....

@cagerep I've heard that too, but it wasn't the case in my experience. Whiteflash and BGD do have beautiful 5 stone settings.

Whiteflash can also make a 5 stone setting in two tone metal.

They absolutely do NOT need to be the same metal. The diamonds might look nice in white metal and a rose cut band would really pop.

Yea especially with 5 or 7 stones, you hardly see the band apart from underneath.

So far I've seen mention of Whiteflash, Blue Nile and BGD, ID jewellery; any other really nice diamond sellers which you think should be top of my list?

Another vote for the graduated 5- stone ring (of course I'm biased because that's what I wear on my chubby finger too, lol, with 2 thin bands).

I think you can't go wrong with these vendors. With your budget I would definitely want super ideal cut stones. WF, HPD, BGD.

If the setting is important to you, Victor Canera makes beautiful hand forged settings with super ideal cut stones. That would be gorgeous!

Do you have a photo of your ring on with the bands? :)

What's HPD? I'm new to the acronyms!

Oooh man I can see this site was a dangerous place to go. I'm going to have to break it to my partner tonight!

High performance diamonds. They sell Crafted by Infinity (CBI) diamonds which are also super ideal.

As for ps being dangerous, you have no idea how true that is! :???::Up_to_something2::lol:

Another vote for the 5 stone.

And I'm going to ask the mods to change my screen name to Heftychonk. If I keep going to the gym after a few months maybe I can be up/down graded to A Heckin' Chonker. Although at the rate I'm really going I'll be renamed Oh Lawd (S)He Comin by spring.

hahaha your post made me laugh

ooooh pretty!!! Did you get both bands for wedding / engagement or just extra ;-)
Lmao. The 5-stone ring is an e-ring upgrade, not my original.

But then I didn't like how my original wedding band looked with the new ring, so I bought the 2 thin bands to stack with it.

PS. maybe I missed this elsewhere in the thread, but just another idea--I adore eternity rings (or ones with like 1-2 stones missing from the bottom so you can resize). I think they are classic, blingy, and amazing. So just another potential idea. But that said, the 5 stone on your finger was incredible.

I definitely like the rings which cover the entire width but haven't tried on any that go around the sides (would it be uncomfortable?). So yea definitely 5+.
I thought I wasn't flashy but I'm so into the bling :D

I don't find mine uncomfortable at all, and I LOVE being able to turn over my hand and see bling on all sides :)

I am "permanently" engaged, so wanted an ering that had lots of oomph. It looks a little like this (graduated emerald cut) and you get a lot of sparkle and coverage for the buck because you can go for a smaller middle stone and still get a lot of sparkle. I LOVE it and get a lot of compliments. Sorry I don't have picture of the real ring it's in for repairs. :(sad Only problem I would foresee for you is to find a wedding band (other than a plain band-ho hum) to pair it with. Ring.JPG

Don’t worry about your fingers. Some of us have more slender ones, or longer ones... but some of us have what you are saying is chunky and I, for example, don’t have chunky fingers but I have short fingers and I also have bone spurs and enlarged knuckles so we are all not blessed with model hands but it’s okay. The upside is your are going to have a fabulous ring on your finger very soon and that’s all anyone will notice!
My suggestion is you get the best quality ring (diamonds) you can afford. The composition of the style is up to you. Also, I think it’s very important that the the stones match... in color, clarity (a slight variance could be okay... you need to see what the inclusions are like), and in cut quality. A multi stone ring with different qualities of stones will stand out (and not in a good way). And you need to see it in May angles and many lighting situations in real life, how it appears to your eye. Do not let the special lighting of the jewelry store fool you... they can make any diamond lool fabulous. A jeweler should allow you to take it outdoors, take it into their offices where they have yucky lighting, etc., etc. Also, with regard to outside, not just in the shining sun but also in shadows and under gray skies. If you have to go back at different times of the day and on a few different days to get a wide array of lighting situations then you should do that. If you are not going to go completely custom, I think it’s better if you find a semi-mount you like and then select the center stone to go in it. But make sure the quality and color of the side stones already on that semi mount are a good match for the center diamond you select. Of the choices you have, the last one, the band, is the only one I’d matched quality. Also, you mentioned doing something like that in rose gold... I would STRONGLY suggest you give it a lot of consideration. I’m worried that rose gold is a trend and not as timeless. If you love it then go for it. But thing about it. Also, I think that full banded look with the well matched high quality stones is a classic in platinum. Best of luck in your happy future together!

I think the 5 stone is perfect for your finger. I have a 3-stone with a .8 center and it looks small on my size 5 finger (pic below). I'd go for more finger coverage!

Wow that looks gorgeous. After trying on the 7-stone I mentioned I'm really digging 'square' looking cuts...I need to see some more in person. In the same store they brought over a 5-stone emerald cut and it was just blah but I don't know the quality of those stones etc. I don't mind plain bands tbh!
