Hey guys, my first time here. My girlfriend and I are in the process of picking an engagement ring style. We have been to jewelers and tried on various cuts and styles. She is having a difficult time settling on a cut. This is a shot in the dark, but I am wondering if anyone knows if there are places online you can buy a set of practice plastic rings that she can wear to help her decide. She's very picky so she needs more time than at the jewelry store. Also if anyone has any other ideas, please share. I wish there were Netflix for enagament rings! Thanks.

The cut refers specifically to the diamond. Are you saying she does not know the shape diamond she wants or she can't decide on the setting/ring for the stone?

Rounds will face up (appear) larger than many fancy shapes that are cut deeper. So she should take that into consideration if size is important. Rounds are also more timeless than some other shapes. On the other hand, some prefer antique style stones such as asschers or cushions. Others prefer the contemporary lines of the square princess cut. So in some ways, you can narrow down shapes based on general preferences on style.

Thanks. She can't decide on shape. Unfortunately this has been going on for many months. She gets embarrassed going to all the jewelers and always trying on rings. I was warned not the bring her in on the process!

dont forget about ovals and pears and marquise, DS! Those fase up larger...

take her to like, a Macys or some department store, or even a walmart. have her just slip on ones that are in the standing displays. She doesnt have to ask for an assistant or someone to give her rings to try on. Not a good way to tell sparkle, but a good way to see what shapes she likes

Your girlfriend sounds like me. Here's how I resolved this dilemma:

1) Went to visit 2 jewelers to look at loose diamonds for sparkle, color, clarity, etc. purpose
2) Purchased and tried on fake rings at Nordstroms/Amazon/FantasyJewelryBox, etc. Wore them around the house to get an idea of shape.

The above happened over the course of 12 months so by now I know what I want. All without having the staff at Tiffanys's start to recognize my face as the girl who always stops by. I also watched videos from goodoldgold and looked at the multiple photos on PS!!! I started a folder on my desktop and saved the photos too.

Thanks! Yes I think we may just buy some cheap costume jewelry to help!

Maple cute cavs!!! I have a ruby one myself.

Sorry thread jack. Haha

You definitely need to buy from a vendor with a 100% upgrade policy because since she is so uncertain about what she wants, it is possible she will later change her mind! It almost sounds like she is overwhelmed, to me. It sounds like she maybe has looked at too much!

I also think she can go to Lord and Taylor TJ Maxx or Nordstrom even claire's for that matter and try on sizes and shapes. Even those high end "like" diamond stores in the mall.....they will have all shapes and sizes to practice
