So I recently bought this starburst pin with old cuts. I am looking for a chain that will be suitable for it. It’s about 8grams and 1.25 inches so I’m looking for something not too dainty but not too bulky (Only necklace I own and wear is a dbty style necklace and is very delicate). Yellow and rose gold makes my complexion look muddy so it has to be a white metal. I am planning on possibly layering it with my crescent moon brooch. (I am so on the fence about converting it as a pendant because I love wearing it as a brooch and a hair pin). The starburst pin I am confident will hang just fine on a chain, so I don’t think I’d need to convert it. If I wear them both together the crescent pin will be at the top on a shorter chain (possibly 14-15) and the starburst will hang lower at about 17. Thanks!

Does the starburst have a pendant loop? If yes, show us a pic in case that limits the chain size / style.

No pendant top but I’m just gonna hang it through the closure

I like rolo chains for antique pieces and box chains are generally very sturdy. I love both of these especially the crescent! A crescent is on my wish list.

Rolo chains sure look great. I might need to try one on in person. I might let the crescent go soon, I’ve been mulling it over. I realized I’m not really a patina person and it feels sacrilegious to rhodium plate it.

Exciting! I will be eyeing Preloved then!

That crescent is AMAZING. Would be perfect with darkened yellow-ish gold (sorry I know you don't love that) and it would be such a shame to alter the finish. I am biased though as I adore patina. I'm totally jealous!

For the starburst, a lovely vintage-y Deco chain would be a classic choice. chain.jpg

I wouldn’t dare to alter the finish. It just feels morally wrong to do that! Lol I adore patina and oxidized metal in pictures and sitting on the jewelry box, but for some reason it just doesn’t look good on me! That’s one of the main reason I haven’t jumped the gun on any Georgian pieces yet even though I love them. Sigh. Here’s a picture of the crescent where the patina is more prominent.

Okay, wow. That chain is perfect. Now onto the hunt!

That’s good to know! I’ll definitely try it on around the house first before going out with it. I dread for it to fall off without me noticing somewhere out in public.

As @daisysanddiamonds said, sometimes the back opens and you could lose your pin off the chain.
Try spearing the chain, and then adding a cheapo rubber earring back to the pin. This way, if the pin opens it won't fall off the chain.

for a breif moment my heart feel into my mouth at the thought id lost it :cry2:

again not to compaire the splendor of yours to the 100 % sentimentality of mine
im going to get the jewler to check my pin so its completly safe to wear as a brooch again
your pin bit looks good but who really knows for sure?

Swooon! I love both the crescent and the starburst! I second a heavier rolo chain for the starburst. These two are dreams pieces, to me! So beautiful!

I really also love how antique watch chains look as a necklace. Yet again it might be something I like in pictures and not on me and they aren’t cheap!

Gawd I know. And they seem to go up and up!!!! I love them too; bought one a year ago for $825 and thought that was high. Today it would be a bargain! (It’s heavy).

I can just imagine how many of those were sold for scraps when they were deemed unfashionable anymore.

The starburst arrived yesterday and it may be my most favorite piece of jewelry I currently own. Here’s some indoor photos when it arrived while I’m stuck at work. Alas, I am still chainless! Curse you, gold prices!! Is it even worth it looking into gold filled pieces?

And here’s the crescent when the sun showed it’s face one time ;) Just begs to be put in a choker length watch chain, but holy bejeezus are they expensive!

I know!!! Especially antique chains it is INSANE. Perhaps look for an antique silver chain? Until you find the perfect gold one. Both pieces for are TDF.

i also need to buy a gold chain
but im going to sit and wait it out
till the price drops and our dollar comes up

i have a silver Singapore twist chain and it sparkles like crazy and something like that might buy you some time too

LOVE IT!

@ean saw this and thought of this thread:

@ean I'm not sure if you ever found a chain, but I liked this one as well.
