Celebrating a milestone. Rolex or upgrade e-ring?

DF, so are you saying you do not use a winder and just reset your watches when you wear them after a break?

Depending on the complication of the watch, but with most Rolexes is easy, all you needed to do is reset the date using the quick set function and then wind the crown about 20 turn and your good to go.This shouldn't take more than 1-2 min.

Now if you have a perpetual calendar or a annual calendar watch it can be a PITB to reset all functions.

The sales guy at Jade Galore told my husband that he can just shake the watch for a minute and it will re wind itself. That sounds way too easy.

LovelyHearts, I liked the small Tank Solo the best all along but didn't want to say anything since you since you seemed to be leaning toward the Francaise. I'm glad you are happy and I love the watch you chose!

I love it so far. Such an understated and classic look. I have to stop myself now because the more I have, the more I want.

I also had a chance to stop by Nordie's anniversary sale and bought some items with some of the leftover budget. The rest will go into the kids college fund. I now feel satisfied.

That will only get an auto watch going, but if w/o any further movement of the watch it will soon stop running. Depending on your daily activities I'd say an avg auto watch will need about 10-12 hrs of wrist time to keep it running day after day.

Soooo I pulled the trigger at Jade Galore! I wasn't comfortable buying from a grey market for something like this. I decided to go with the small solo. The first time I saw the watch, there was plastic on the band so I assumed the band was all glossy steel, which is why I thought the Francaise looked nicer. But my husband asked them to pull back the plastic a little and underneath was a beautiful link of polished and matted steel.

I talked them into giving me a discount. Not much but 5%. They also cleaned, polished and rhodium plated my rings and said they will do it free of charge whenever I want. My husband, who didn't understand why I wanted to spend so much on a watch looked at some rolex watches and now wants one. What did I start here?!

Anyway, I'm so happy! I think I made a great decision at $2k less than my budget! and got to enjoy the experience of purchasing something nice for myself. And thanks to all of you. Thank you so much for helping me! And answering all my silly questions!

As a Rolex owner, I'd go for the ring upgrade. I hate the fact that unless you wear your watch all the time, or keep it on a watch winder, it doesn't keep proper time. It was so embarrassing to be out and about, have someone ask me for the time, only to discover that my watch had the incorrect time

Ugh, that is a huge disadvantage to me. I do wear more than one watch, so that would be a problem.

I have since gotten a Cartier that keeps perfect time - problem solved! My poor Rolex just sits in a drawer...

Super! Which one did you buy? I appreciate it that you are saving me some money because I have deliberated over this every time there is a watch thread!!! I'd certainly like both ideally, but I know I'd have to have one of those things that keeps the Rolex running when you don't wear it.
