Hello PS members

My 20 year wedding anniversary is coming up and I would love a Cartier watch,

I dont think our budget will stretch to new so can anyone recommend somewhere reliable for a preloved timepiece by Cartier?

Have a look on eBay.
There are plenty of business sellers ie bricks and mortar stores that also sell on ebay so you can be sure of authenticity.
Just check the watch band length fits your wrist.
Often times pre loved have been shortened and the extra links gone ???. You can buy extra links from Cartier but their prices will make you cry… seriously.….
About 5 years ago I bought a lovely tank SS style with the 3 rows of gold links. i didn’t check the size and it was bit too small for my wrist. I think Cartier quoted me $600 for two links. I’d bought the whole watch for $1,300!
I sold it for what I’d paid.

I bought a pre-loved tank on Fashionphile. I chose one with a certificate and I was able to register the watch using the Cartier website and then took it in to remove a few links. I agree with prior posts- make sure the band is either just right or a bit big when you buy!

I also bought pre-loved off eBay but chose one with a certificate, original box, etc. They even had the receipt! It was over 20 years old when I bought it. When I got it I sent it to Cartier to be serviced. I also recommend doing that and factoring that into the cost if the one that you buy happens to be older (it also is a way to authenticate it :) ) I paid about $1400 I think. I love love love it.

This is the one I had. Should have hung onto it ha ha.
Chrono24 is reliable, it’s a watch selling forum, just be aware of high shipping costs and import taxes.
ebay tends to have better prices but more care in choosing your seller is necessary. Private sellers CAN be unreliable but eBay / PayPal protection is good for buyers.
Some Cartier watch styles are more expensive than others and some types are only “gold plate” over Stainless steel so check the composition of the band and case. C007A80A-6B00-4249-AD24-CDD29C165841.jpeg

I bought my dream watch after I rehomed the Cartier. It’s a Jaeger Reverso. If you’re in Sydney, you don’t have to use Cartier for servicing, I have a specialist watch maker who I trust with my vintage mechanical watches and the Jaeger. The Jaeger is Quartz as are most Cartier these days so in theory servicing isn’t really required, just battery changes but I don’t trust my Mall guy with the Jaeger.

Good point about quartz watches @Bron357 . Mine is an automatic so that was another reason I sent it in.

@Dancing Fire would be appalled at me, a self proclaimed “watch collector”, having Quartz watches but for the Jaeger I made an exception as it only came in Quartz.
Manual wind vintage or Automatic are “true watches” and amazing pieces of craftsmanship especially once you get into the “complications” (that’s extra functions like moon phase etc). Watches at the “pointy end” of pricing can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

JLC is the best bang for the bucks in high end mechanical watches. I know nothing about quartz watches.

@Bron357 that watch is gorgeous I understand making the exception.

My budget is fairly small up to maybe 2000USD and I love the look of the Cartier pieces. I have a couple of months to hunt one down before my anniversary.

I had dreams of going into Cartier and buying one new and all the fuss and pomp that goes with it

Might have to make one of my daughters serve me champagne and pretend when it arrives lol

Do you know which style (s) you want? ive found that through eBay there are quite a few Japanese sellers. It’s quite a thing in Japan to wear something for a short while and then need the next latest design. No problems with fakes as it’s actually a criminal offense in Japan to sell / deal in counterfeit goods. You just have to watch the sizing, mostly more the more petite. I’m happy to search for you.
Does it have to be Cartier or might you consider something else? For $2,000 in Cartier you’ll only get Stainless style with maybe gold accents (sometimes only gold plated). You can get a lot more for your money if you go “vintage” including solid gold and maybe even diamonds! I’m a watch collector btw.

@Bron357 thank you x

I am probably looking at the tank. I tried my friends on which was a small I am 5’ 10” and thought I would need the medium but I was pretty happy with how her small looked on me (attached pic)

I think the elongated rectangular shape ma
More sense on my wrist than the panthere for example.

Probably looking at the stainless steel with my budget I really want one with the box and Certs have a few saved on Chrono24

There seems to be a lot of the Francaise available more than the solo or anglaise

I just want one that will go from day to night I am not opposed to vintage either B4673636-EC06-4793-9AA9-D56B9C41DCF7.jpeg

Would it be safe to purchase off a private seller on Chrono24? One that has all the papers and box etc.

Have you seen the new Tanks? If you were able to save up a little bit more they are around $2600 new, with a leather strap rather than SS. There’s also a new solar version coming out, similar price, which apparently has a battery that will last 16 years!

I love my brand new tank stainless steel with black leather strap.

I went to Cartier yesterday and tried these on would love peoples thoughts.

I do want a metal band they just didn't have the larger solo with a ss band so I tried it for size.

I did prefer the must to the Francaise I think and I did love the Panthere but that could be because it had diamonds and was in platinum lol would love peoples thoughts on what style suits my wrist as well as what size.

I think I will end up with the must/solo I like the elongated shape it has a simple elegance where as the Panthere is a lot dressier

They are all gorgeous, of course! Depends on your lifestyle, personally I like the Tank Must for the same reasons as you- simple, elegant and suitable for daily wear. Do you prefer the larger size? The small looks good to my eyes.

Thanks @Snowdrop13 I was looking at them both and cannot see a huge amount of difference so will probably go with the small as I like the smaller look on the bracelet.

I would really love an Americaine but budget won't stretch to that

In another forum I have a lot of people saying the panthere but I just feel I may regret that as much as I love it right now. It just isn't as timeless IMO

I have bought my two dream watches from a lovely PSer preloved.

A Rolex and a Cartier tank française ss small. The Rolex was much more of a dream piece for me and was intended for me to be "borrowed" from DH. The Cartier was a replacement for my stolen Cartier tank solo.

I have to say that I'm wearing the Cartier exclusively and am very happy to have the small size. It is a timeless, elegant watch that goes with everything, any occasion and is incredibly comfortable to wear. To me (I don't know why) it's more comfortable than my solo was.

The Rolex comes much higher off the wrist and I haven't borrowed it once from DH.

It's great You know your tastes so well.
I'm confident you'll love the tank for years to come!

The Rolex is the only round shape I like.... And I still prefer the tank for wear...

It is a beautiful watch. The Cartier has been a long held wish of mine so I think that is part of it as well

Well I went back to Cartier and it has to be the panthere. I just love it.
I would love to buy the small as the budget is already stretched but think it gets lost on me.
Any thoughts ?

I thought the size small Panthere was lovely when I saw it in person, very fluid and bracelet-like. I think it depends on the look you are going for- I think either the small or medium would work for most body frames. The mini was too mini IMO. Definitely choose based on what you like not just on cost… it’s worth it to wait for what you want if you aren’t 100% happy with the small.

I love the panthere - and bought one for my 40th for that reason! I love the look of the larger one on you.
