I love Cartier's Trinity Ruban ring. I want to create something similar, but still with my own unique twist. How much do you think a ring like that should cost? I'm sure Cartier jacks up the price, while I could probably make it at a more reasonable cost. trinity_ruban__n4250600___cartier_ring___starts_at_11kusd.jpg

depends on what elements you want to preserve. there are places like james allen who make a somewhat similar style for a fair price.

or you could work with designers such as brian gavi, whiteflash, Brilliantly engaged to get CAD versions of the setting made. Id bet to replicate it close to exact would run 3-4k? maybe more?

Then there are hand forged benches that would cost upwards of probably 5-6k + like Victor Canera or Steven Kircsh

HI:

Not sure there is a "Cartier template"--I've seen this ring IRL and it is stunning. Bit too much airline for my taste but nonetheless, stunning.

Damiani had a similar style with pave at one point, but I think it is just plain/without diamonds, now.

As previously pointed out, custom is costly and often never "just like" the original.

ETA: for reference sake, here are other branded designer settings--not exactly like the Cartier, but with similar elements...and the settings range up to/over 6k.

James Allen setting (that was posted by Niel) finished with center stone:

That Cartier ring is a masterpiece - look at the amount of pave and the sinuous curving / overlapping swirls - I'd guess upwards of $10k and that's not even taking into account the center stone. If you can pull out the specific features you most like in the Cartier design, perhaps an experienced jeweler known for pave and design work could create a pave swirl setting for you.

eta: yes, I also echo canuck-gal's suggestion of the Abbraccio settings - they have a similar flow and curve but should be budget-attainable.

We've had others want to copy it. There are only a few that can do that level of work. And yes, it will be very expensive. VERY expensive. Think 8-10k. IF they will agree to copy a cartier design exactly, which most won't.

Steven Kirch and Victor Canera and Brilliantly Engaged Hand Forged Bench are the top three vendors for that.

Wow everyone is very knowledgeable. Thank you for all the suggestions-- I will check out some of these designers. :twirl:

Do you already have the diamond for the ring? Because they are talking about $8-10k for the setting without center stone, of course. Victor Canera would be my first choice and then Steven Kirsch. Both are able to do a ring like this in terms of skill level, but Victor is so nice and easy to work with.

No I don't have the diamond yet. How much do you think that would be?

How big a diamond do you want? For that setting I'd stick to H VS2-SI or better personally. And I think it would look nice with a 6mm (.8mm) to 7.5 mmm stone (1.6 ct) stone. I wouldn't go any larger than that with that setting. And honestly, I personally would want to stick in the 1-1.2 carat range.

That's a lot of setting. And a LOT of pave.

Did your lady specifically pick just that style? Or did she give you options (or is it for you).

Pave is very fragile, and that much pave is not a great idea for something to be worn daily and 24/7 and will require care.

HI:

The setting is gorgeous that it doesn't require a large stone to complete its beauty. Is getting the original Cartier ring out of the question? I see on the website they sell center diamonds for this setting starting at .50 ctw. That would be gorgeous!

I agree. A .8 6mm stone is going to look great in there. Unless the wearer has to have a certain carat size, I personally would go with the original in the budget range that you can afford and NOT go with an inspired by.

Why? Any reputable vendor will comply with copyright laws. That means they will have to change the design 20% to meet that requirement.

I think anything with a similar level of craftsmanship would be very expensive. I haven't had work like this quoted, but inwould guess over 6k.

It may also be hard to find someone willing to make a copy. Cartier doesn't just have a template floating around for anyone to copy. Their work is protected and most reputable jewelers won't make exactly the same ring.

Big ditto to this. A lot of setting and a lot of pave, indeed... it's not a stylistic or maintenance choice I would recommend surprising anyone with.

I also ditto the recommendation to just get the original. This is a unique piece - an inspired-by made by any reputable jeweller will need to look somewhat different, and you might not care for the changes that are made...
