Cartier ring SEAM?

Hi guys, quick question...
I bought a new Cartier trinity ring, directly from a Cartier store, this June. I recently noticed that only in the yellow gold band there appears to be a seam. It's a straight line that cuts across the width of the band. It's very subtle and only visible upon close inspection but now that I've seen it, I can spot it almost instantly when I look for it. You can just tell there is a slight variation there. I do not believe it is a scratch - and I have not gotten it sized. The other two bands look perfectly fine.
Is this possible? Why would there be a visible seam in a new Cartier ring? Their store is about an hour drive for me so I don't know if it's worth driving up to have them look at it, or what they might say about it. 95% of normal people probably wouldn't notice it or care if it was there, but now that I've seen it, it really irritates me, since it was a real "treat" purchase for me and I just expected Cartier quality to be perfect.

Anyway, any ideas or info, please let me know what you think!

I might cut them some slack but considering the premium we have to pay for the tip-top end designer brands that can be counted on one hand I'd insist they exchange, not fix, it.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
If they say no tell em you will go on Pricescope to tell the truth and name names so the world can hear the truth.
At that point they are being the buttheads, not you.

+1

We had similar rings made locally in AUS, 4yrs ago, through a B&M store. My partner's ring was resized 2x and no issue. Mine was a good fit. 2-3 months later I noticed this line you are referring to on one of them- (WG). I sent it back to have it fixed. When it came back a different one (YG this time)had the same problem. It was returned again to be fixed. All at no charge. Sad to think that the quality control was not up to scratch: pun intended.

4.5 yrs on- no issue.

As Kenny says- the premium you pay for the Cartier, they should be attend that for you at no charge. It is an hour drive away, yes. But well worth it, as you then know it will be fixed.

I purchased mine on the second hand market, but there is no seam present on any of the gold's - nothing other than the engraved markings. I think if you bought this direct from Cartier, I'd do the long drive and insist on an unmarked one. I'd also call ahead/email to discuss the issue with them and include pics, so they can be prepared to swap it out. It may be a simple process, but I'd follow up and ask for a "perfect" ring.

You paid quite a premium, its only natural to expect perfection, right? ;))

I bought a Cartier Trinity at the official Cartier boutique in Heathrow Airport seven months ago. When I read your post just now, I ran to check my ring. I've looked at all three bands and there is no seam.

In my local jeweller, who is very good, I looked at trinity-style rings which looked just like the real thing and cost about $300. So yes, we paid a huge premium. It doesn't sound right that yours has a seam; mine certainly doesn't. It sounds as if yours was sized, and then returned by someone. I know that's not supposed to happen, but if the customer was someone powerful with a platform who kicked up a nasty fuss...or maybe a friend of the SA...or maybe a mistake by a junior staff member...it could happen, any number of ways.

Anyway, you said it really bothers you, so you should exchange it.

Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Very odd. It sounds like it was sized, even though it's supposed to be brand new. I would ask for an exchange.

Thanks for the responses. You all have encouraged me to look into it, and not just settle for it, minor as it is.

Perhaps worth mentioning, I hadn't thought much about it till now, is that I first bought the ring in a size 53, then quickly realized it was actually too big so I didn't wear it until a few weeks later I could drive back up and exchange it for a size 52. They exchanged it for me no problem, and gave me the new card with the new serial number and everything. I HATE to think that because I exchanged for a different size, they gave me a "not quite right" ring in return, and it is not likely, but still... I will follow up with them. The squeaky wheel just got squeakier! ;D

I really doubt that.
I'm sure Cartier the company and the brand would not do that.
The problem is all companies employ humans and humans are not 100% controllable by a company.
Rouge employees can depart from company policy.

When you present this to them I'd make a point of asking for the manager, not that person you dealt with previously.
Perhaps try to find out what day he/she has off and go there that day.
