My ring is somewhere around the 1.3 to 1.4 mark (I can''t quite remember the specs offhand), which is perfect for me. My fingers are only a 4.25 size, and once I combine my ering and WB with an anniversary band (which will be around a carat), it''ll be enough bling to satisfy me :)

Interestingly enough, I never really thought about what carat size I''d have liked prior to getting engaged. I''ve some friends who plan for massive rocks, and some friends who honestly could care less if they even get a ring, so go figure :)

Yup, my husband got me, and our wonderful son! (whom he would not have without me ;) Even though I made a very good salary, my husband made more than twice what I did at the time, so he was more in the position to buy a ''big gift.'' Plus, I think that, especially if you have a child, a woman gives up a lot more in the marriage (in my case, my career, my freedom to move about the world without a child in tow, and my smokin'' hot pre-baby body

), so I don''t feel too bad about getting a nice piece of jewlery out of the deal :)

Exaccery!

Dear Buddha: just a tiny threadjack to say that i just LOVE that blue asscher diamond ring - it''s so unique and is one of my absolute favorites here on PS!

Random, but about Carat Size:

I had a dream last night that SO and I were getting married (I guess eloping at some hotel or something), but his mom was there after, and we were sitting and talking, and she was complimenting me on my lovely ring, but really fishing for information about how expensive it was. She was thinking that I had really taken her son to the bank! lol It''s only a 1ct center

I swear I didn''t clean him out, and he got a fantastic price!

Okay, if I already feel conspicuous and guilty? Not a good sign! That shrinkage syndrome better kick in quick!

My center diamond is a perfect 1.01 ct cushion cut "I say perfect - for me! G, Eye Clean SI1, E Polish, VG Symmetry" With 50 round brilliant diamonds in the mount. Total Carat Weight about 1.38.

I think I''d be happiest with a .90+ preferably 1ct

I agree!!! Cheers to that

hear hear!

and i hear you about the size, my one of two possible styles of ering is a tiffs lucida and SO and I certainly wouldnt be able to stretch for more than a carat from there...
Well, you know Tiff''s lowered the engagement ring prices. I made a whole over the top excited thread about it the other day
Oh I remember that post - i made my own little trip to the tiffs website after i read it and had an excitement fit

And do you know i heard that its better to go .99 of a carat than to go 1ct when shopping there? I dont know if its definitely true but i guess sticking beneath the ''magic'' carat weights might save $$ now i think it should be, say .10cts per year....which works out perfectly

We just went ring shopping (I''ll post on that tomorrow, I dont want him seeing me type out all the details ;) ) and My SO is so cute. He''s decided a carat is too small.... (I was like wha?! I thought at most he''d like a carat, but if he thinks its too small it works for me!!) and that he''d prefer a 1.5, but he''s going to be reasonable and look for something within a 1.18 - 1.25 carat range. hehehe.... I really didn''t think he''d go for something that large, but he told me once that its a once in a lifetime thing and he wants to do this right. He said he believes in getting the best for such an important occasion and he knows it''ll cost more, but its important to him.

awww... :)

I was thinking about this all last night... I should have edited this post. I hope I didn't offend anyone... its just that... my fingers are a bit chubby and he wants a solitaire... So he thinks it looks better with something a bit bigger...

When my FI and I seriously entertained getting engaged, we agreed on no less than a carat. And his original budget was about 3-5k. But when we went to various stores and I tried on various shapes, I found a carat to look too small on my finger. Strange considering mt ring size is a 5.75. Well, my FI went to a B&M and picked out a 1.51 carat square cushion without knowing the price. When he brought me back to try it on and found out the price, he freaked out, but when he saw it on my hand and saw how happy I was, he bought it.

What I

is that he is already talking about getting me an upgrade.

And as for a gift back, I''m paying for both of our wedding bands as well as his wedding gift which I know he will love.

Violet-Thank you so very much

I love my ring, and I''m lucky to have my husband; he goes above and beyond for everything, and he makes me *squee* everyday. He did well!

Mine is a 1.56 H&A round brilliant. We were originally looking for RB''s between .75-1.25 range, but we ended up finding my diamond which was a J color at a fantastic price similar to the price of a 1 carat RB... I recently went back to buy my wedding bands and the jeweler told us our diamond went up 25% in value! We really got a killer deal... I would say the average carat weight in my social circle is about 1 carat.

I think that he would probably get me a .50-.55 I would be happy with this because I wouldn''t want anything bigger. I am a size 6 btw.

Not that it''s any of my business at ALL, but I''m reading a lot of "he wants" "he believes in" and "he''d prefer."

What do YOU want, pure?

More of a rhetorical question, but I thought I''d throw it out there.

Hi Musey,

I've been writing and rewriting this post. I'm not sure how to answer really without sounding extremely selfish -- I realy want the more than 1 carat, but i'm not working. So, i'd rather leave the ring and decision up to him. *sigh*. wow... this post has been rewritten 4 times i think... sorry for the people who keep reading different posts :-/

Well then it works out perfectly, doesn't it? I think it's so great when partners are aligned on the ring, because you hear a lot of conflict around these boards ("what I really want is _________, but he's paying so we'll get _________").

It sounds like he really wants to get you something you love!

Probably 1ct. Honestly it doesn't matter, as long as it's good quality and it's something he can afford. I will be ecstatic no matter what the size is!
