Given your bf's budget...What is the likely carat weight of the center stone of your engagement ring?

If you are engaged or married, what is yours?

I totally screwed that up. No poll for me!

Yesterday I decided that I *need* at least a 7mm diameter. I guess that is 1.15-1.25 carat weight.

I don't *need* any carat weight at all, but would like at least 0.75 carats since my fingers are large (size 9). And it'll be our budget, not his.

My dream carat is 1 . However after learning a bit more about diamonds on pricescope I would probably settle for a high quality 0.85 carat.

This sound's lame but even though I have always wanted a 1 carat, my bf is very enchanted by everything his older, successful ( over 150 K salary) brother has done and he only bought his 'pushy' ( for marriage that is) girlfriend a 0.8 ct diamond for 5000 AUS this year ( which is lame I think considering he earns so much).

So I said please make sure it's bigger than 0.8, as I could see that my boyfriend could think , 'ooh ahh' my brother is successful and only bought his gf a 5000 dollar diamond, so because I am less successful than my brother I shouldn't be expected to spend more on a diamond for my gf than he did, in fact I should spend less than he did on a diamond because proportionally I earn alot less than he does.

My ering is 1.23ct. I thought that with our budget we''d get just under 1ct so I was pleasantly surprised that we could stretch to more.

Ha! I hope that I wasn''t insulting with my poll. I''ll go back and edit.

Hi

given my bf''s budget, the centre stone could reach around the 0.70ct mark.... This might sound totally weird to everyone else but when I tried on a 0.75ct ring the other day, I thought it looked too big on my finger and didn''t suit me at all. My size is 3 1/8 btw. Eventually I tried on a .30ct and .40ct.
Sooo it will be either one of those because they suited me perfectly and I felt more comfortable with it.

Your fingers are tiny!!! Any size stone would look fabulously big on your finger!!!

I would like a ~1ct, which is what we''ve been looking at and is within my BF''s budget. But really, I just want the stone to sparkle like crazy!!!!

I'm thinking I get smack dab at 1ct. Yes, I am a brat and insisted that that is what I want and should get. And I don't feel bad about it, it will cost less than his motorcycle that he bought on a whim. Actually, he is on his 2nd motorcycle.

If I was younger, smaller would have been fine, but after all these years (5 and counting), yes, it's 1ct buddy. He makes good money, and it would cost far less than 2mos salary.

Funny thing is, I would get engaged and married without an e-ring, but if you are getting me one, I want a carat.

If I am 30+, I want 1.25. Yes, time costs money.

hahaha, sometimes I really have to laugh at myself.

Mine is a 2.75ct. I love it its perfect for me. It was way more than I had anticipated however I am extreamly happy with it. I''ll be 30 this year and I live in NYC. My ring is pretty in line with our social circle. The important part is that myself and my fiance both love it!!

Well, you pretty much have my favorite ring EVER, so whatever size it is would work for me too!

when we were first looking at rings it was between 1.75-2 carats depending on quality cut, clarity, ext. Then alot of new bills came up, redoing our kitchen new cars recession so I believe it will be going down to 1-1.25 carats. Which I''m happy with. I''m more worried about the quality I would sacrifice carat size for that. Plus as long as I GET a ring I will be thrilled.

GIven my bfs budget and what we''ve liked when we went ring shopping hes aiming for around 1.6 carats. I''m obviously more then happy with that. I dont want to upgrade the ring at any point during our marriage - I''d like it to remain the way it was the day he proposes and if it were smaller I''d feel the same way, 1.6 just gives me more reason to be 100% percent about that decision. I know hes been saving for a while already and by the time things are purchased - sometime around early next summer (unless I''m surprised this christmas)- it wont be a matter of clearing out his account to buy this stone and whichever setting he chooses.

I will be getting a 1.22ct cushion with halo. I''m hoping that will look decent on my 7.5 size finger!

when we were looking i thought we couldnt go bigger than a 1.25ct but he ended up pulling some strings and knowing the right people and now im wearing an amazing 2.15ct...which i dont plan on upgrading or changing at all

I''m long married, but my centre stone is under 1/2 carat, about .45. I''d have to look it up for the exact weight. I wear a size 7.

I didn''t *need* any ring to get engaged or married. We got what we could afford.

My e-ring is 1.37cts we could have gone bigger and hit around the 2ct mark within the same budget but I wanted a higher colour and clarity and so did he for us it was a mind clean issue.

As it is in Australia bigger diamonds are not the norm and I already get enough comments about the size of my e-ring that sometimes I think we should have gone smaller but I love my ring and wouldn''t change it for the world.

I am lol at Trillionaire. I hear you and I understand. I am not a size queen and I never thought that I would want over a carat...But after we went to look at diamonds for size, I felt comfortable in the 7-8 mm diamonds. But I am a size 8 ring and 6'' tall in heels.

i''m pretty sure mine will be 2.75-3cts.

I have little kid hands....i never lost the "baby fat" look from my hands even though I''m in good shape and not overweight, so my main issue was getting good finger covereage, solitaires looked horrid on me, which is what I wanted, def. through a wrench in the selection process. BUT i love the two we picked out....now i just have to wait and see.

My ering will probably be at least 2 carats, but hopefully closer to 3+

I got a 1.5 Round solitaire. I shopped online for a long time and I never knew how long he had actually been looking with his jeweler. But he did so much reasearch and he got me a pretty near perfect stone (H&A, Ideal cut, G, VS1) and set it in platinum. Pricescope has a way of warping us LIWs because my ring is HUGE IRL! I went to visit my family for the holidays and the norm in that area is around 0.25 (0.5 is considered bigger). I actually felt a little self concious at one point.

We are going with plain platinum bands for the wedding and I honestly don''t plan to upgrade at this point. (I don''t want to say never, but I really can''t see that far down the road). I normally wear a size 6 ring, but my size 6 ER fits just a tad loose and will have to be resized to 5.75.

I''m not engaged yet, but I was able to pick my diamond. I originally wanted no more than .5ct, but after trying on some rings...I realized my fingers weren''t as small as I thought lol.

FF will be proposing with (hopefully, by the end of this year!!!) a .76 RB

Mine will be either a 1.2ct or a 1.26ct spinel. Both of which were custom cut for me for my ering. They are about the same size as a 1ct diamond (6.5mm). I think that will be the perfect size--maybe even a little bit too big...

ETA: When is DF going to show up in this thread?

I think I can reasonably expect something in the .75 - 1 ct range. And hey, if he goes larger, I won''t complain :)

I pretty much told him what setting I want and let him choose the size of the center stone according to his budget. He won''t even tell me ANYTHING about his budget so I''m just guessing here.

I wear a size 5 and have pretty dainty hands. When I''ve gone to actually try on rings to get an idea of diamond size a .75 feels like a really good size for me.
And 1ct looks huge on me, and puts a big grin on my face.
9.gif

And anything larger, and well, I get a bit giddy.

But I''ve also tried on stones in the .50 ct range and I was surprised at how large they looked on my hand.
Plus the center diamond in the setting I want HAS to be at least .50 cts. So I''ll be good with anything he gets me.

I''m just excited to see what he chooses

My ring is about 0.75 carat. I will be getting an upgrade.

My engagement ring actually didn''t have a stone at all. It was a plain wedding band, because that was what he could afford at the time (and I wore it proudly - anyone who questioned got a verbal smackdown.) My wedding ring has a total weight of 0.75 carats.

The upgrade has already been discussed; my side is, "I don''t NEED it. I have a wedding ring and it''s beautiful." His side is, "I know you don''t, but I know what you have isn''t exactly what you wanted." The upgrade, which will probably be in about five years, is going to be somewhere between 2.25 and 2.5. We tried on a few so he could have an idea, and a 2.37 was the perfect size for me. So somewhere in that range.

Carat size doesn''t really matter to me - it''s all about the way it looks. If I like the look of a 0.50 carat on my hand, then that''s what I''ll pick.
1.gif
I just know what size I think looks good on my hand.

My stone is .48 and I couldn''t be happier! No upgrading, but maybe I''ll get some fat chunky earrings later in life.

Mine is 1.56 radiant. We could have gone larger, but I wanted an ornate setting (1tcw) that he put that money towards. It''s a perfect size for me.

mine will be a 2-3 ct sapphire cushion. somewhere around 7.5 mm squared...which is what looked right on me with the diamonds we tried on--that would be about the size of a 2 ct diamond--my ring size is 4.25. my ring will cost about a third of what he would pay if we were going by the two month salary rule of thumb but we would rather spend the money on travel and fun stuff that we can do together.

I should also mention, in my bratty tirade, that I don''t believe in upgrades. My e-ring is my e-ring. I could see changing the setting, but never the stone.
12.gif
So, yeah, I am holding out for my 1ct.
2.gif

My center is a 2.12 ct emerald cut.
