Candida and Weight Loss

I've been reading/hearing a lot about Candida and it's impact on weight loss. I haven't done the test yet (where you spit in a cup of water first thing in the morning and see what happens), but will hopefully remember tomorrow. Does anyone have any experience/information on this? It seems like a fad diet thing but I'd love to know if there's any real science behind it.

the spit test? can you tell more?

You spit in a glass of bottled water first thing in the morning (before drinking anything). You wait an hour. If you have candida the spit will sort of string out. If it stays in a ball I think it means you're okay. Someone can correct me here....

My microbiological Spidey senses are telling me this is a load of tripe. Candida albicans is normal mouth flora. NORMAL. A Candida "overgrowth" (which is an infection) will present with clinical signs, and they aren't what your spit does in the morning! The consistency of your spit could be altered by a whole host of elements besides yeast.

If you think you have a Candida infection in your mouth, due to to the presence of white lesions, get a swab sent to the lab, don't spit in a cup. If you (generally speaking, not to one individual) want to lose weight, stop eating sugary, processed foods. Weight gain has nothing to do with Calb and everything to do with the biochemical mother load of unused energy that people consume.

^I don't even need spidey sense to tell me this is yet another weight loss gimmick. There are far more productive (and proven) ways to lose weight - like a sensible diet and exercise just to name a few :)

Thanks. I sort of figured it was just a dumb fad. In reading articles linked here and elsewhere, it seems the reason people lose weight on the "candida diet" is because they have to cut all the crap.

I was under the impression the yeast overgrowth would be in your stomach/guts, causes bloating and sugar cravings, so by cutting out the sugar you "starve" the yeast and it dies.
