She looks lovely! I am so happy this turned out well for you! These types of buys are so nervewracking, but thrilling when they turn out great! :appl:

Yes! Nerve-wrecking is the key word! Thank you!

I wish I can figure out this stupid PS photo upload thing-a-ma-jigger, so I can do an official thread on SMTB after I get the stats back.. or when I get those photos later!

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

A) well done!

B) who are you really on PS?

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

If you want to add pics, you have to go and upload the pics (press browse and find the file). Then you have the press the "add the file" right next to it. Not "save". Once you add the file, it will list it (see the second pic). Then you go BACK to the upload attachment tab if you want to add more photos and repeat!

When you are done, just hit "submit" like you would a regular post.

TGak really want to see those photos. I saw them. They are real and they are spectacular.

Ahhhh, don't beat me! I can't figure this darn thing out! And yes, I only have those 3 photos, as I don't own a digital camera anymore, and MommaBear hasn't emailed me the ones she took yet.

Dreamer_D, I don't know what a good chestnut means? and let me make this unsearchable by screen name, but my usual username on here for chattering and questioning is M ; a ; d ; e ; l ; i ; s ; e. I've never actually purchased anything on here with help, yet, usually just lurk, and post a comment or two in Hangout or LIW. and drool. Yeah, usually just drool at everyone's blingbabies.

Should I bother attempting to repost those photos here for PS to host? Or just wait to post the new ones, later?

Technically you are not allowed to link to hosted photos, so try posting them here, for practice...until mommabear sends you the goods (and yes, I remember her!)

haha, yes, right on! I'll get a good spanking for my craziness! He says I have this uncontrollable urge to purchase things, and jump on purchases too quickly without thought (and spend too much money on "junk"). He prefers I sleep on decisions that involve a multitude of moolah. But in this case, I couldn't wait til morning, for risk of it getting snatched up! Besides, he feels I shouldn't be purchasing diamonds, as it's pretty much irresponsible for me to do right now (I definitely agree but I couldn't help it!).. but it's paid for, paid off, I'm not starving (yet), and I don't have anyone chasing me for any loan payments. I'd just prefer he not accidentally stumble onto this thread, for when and if he decides to search through PS for my needs/wants.

And I don't think it's safe to be showing this to him, since we aren't engaged yet, and I don't want him to feel like whatever he presents me has to trump this/ outshine this or whatever negative joojoo it might bring into our relationship.

This old beauty is going to be my little secret from him for a (longer than sooner) while! I'm just so glad to be able to spill the beans HERE! Hope you ladies can lend an understanding heart at this matter, and don't think I'm absolutely psychotic!

For some reason, it won't let me include the 2nd photo. I get this error message the few times I've tried with a bunch of mumbo jumbo messages.

..And right when I was about to give up on this darn this.. it works! I just had to rename the file ;) Apparently, photo.jpg was the reason it was causing issues? Strange. It's so generic, and doesn't have special characters.

I have a bling meet up with ForteKitty next week. I'm excited :) I love meet ups.

How exciting that ring is awesome!! I hope you post some more pictures. You got so lucky! I might have to start stalking Ruby Lane and Ebay myself lol. Wow, I'm so glad my DH is out of it regarding my purchases. Then again I figure if its my money, its my money, right? So enjoy that gorgeous ring!!

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

How beautiful  I am so jealous that I could not have found such a deal! Congratulations!!

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

I knew why she wasn't telling, but I still wanted to know! It was for naught, I don't think we have ever "met"!

The "old chestnut" was my Seinfeld quote about real and spectacular. I found reason to use it twice in the last 24 hours. Your ring is not a chestnut!

And you did not ask but I will say anyways that my opinion is you should not have financial secrets from someone you plan to marry, and should always be able to be open and honest about things you do/say/think/buy without them judging you. Anything else is a recipe for future issues ::) I recall another PSer who bought herself a honking rock like you just did, either pre-marriage or early on. Kept it secret from her SO. Guess what? It sat in her jewel box for years. She eventually traded it/sold it. She hid it for the reasons you describe. What is the point of owning it if you cannot enjoy? Pass it along to me, I will glue it to my FACE that is how much I will enjoy and flaunt the crap out of it.

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

Hey, if he's a smart man, he'll be happy to have you set that diamond in a nice setting and wear it as an engagement ring when the time comes. You'll have something spectacular at a fabulous price.

Since you have the money and aren't going into debt, I don't think you made a mistake. You got it for a great price and could probably resell it right now for what you paid for it or even more. It's not likely to lose a lot of value over the years. I can understand why you maybe shouldn't have spent the money but I can also understand why you did.

:wavey: yes, nice to "meet" you!!

hah. Seinfeld. So many people are quoting Seinfeld lately! I just learned that one term, "something Chang" recently, re: someone with a last name that's usually of another ethnic group? I worked for someone whose last name was Young, a form of spelling Yang/Yung. They had a client that threw a fit because they were racist, and didn't understand how someone whose last name was Young was not caucasian.

Thank you for your advice. I had a feeling someone was going to comment on it. Trust me, I feel so guilty. But I don't discuss any other financial things with him at all-- maybe regarding health insurance rates and that's about it. I don't mind sharing financial information with him, but currently, I don't know how much is in his account, nor even how much he makes. He doesn't want to discuss that until we're engaged, so I guess I'm obliging to his own terms :loopy: Yes, an excuse, but, it is what it is  It's sort of like, I'm not going to tell ANY of my friends or coworkers about this purchase, either.. I just kind of feel like if I do, I'll feel like I'm shoving something in their face, and they'd all just be resentful of me for either wasting my money, or acting like I'm "bouschey" (just learned that term lately, too!).

Don't worry! I won't let this purchase sit in a jewelry box, though. It fits, which is a BIG SUPRISE for me, so I can wear it around now :) And my plans will go through, one day, just after I've replenished my funds. I give all my jewelry plenty of loving.

Thanks, LibbyLA, I guess I just needed reassurance from others that I wasn't NUTS for doing it!

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

I guess my main point was wear your ring, enjoy it, share it with you BF, and he should hopefully be happy YOU are happy and not feel inadequate or judge you ;)) In fact, were it me I would perhaps consider this a good diagnostic situation pre-marriage 8) You should be authentic to who you are and be able to share your choices with your SO (and friends, but that is less important) and know he will back you and be happy for you no matter what!

But enough about that, post more pictures woman! You get the award you know. Biggest deal yet on PS.

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

It looks fantastic & sure seems like a steal! How FUN that you can wear it now, as is! Certainly a bonus.

Now - on the other issue -- I don't think I could accept a proposal from someone with whom I hadn't had an "all cards on the table" type of discussion. Of course, I was mid-thirties when engaged so maybe I have a different perspective on it. Love isn't everything. Marriage is also about shared values and MONEY is the main cause of divorce! You gotta know what you're getting into girl. (And vice versa! :naughty:  )

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

Good work honey! :appl:

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

I am trying to make sense from those stats....

stated stats:
2.27 OEC ct center: 8.6 x4.5 mm, 5.24 mm depth, 61% table, 51 degree crown
0.46 ct, platinum edwardian setting
I/J
VS2-SI1

If the diagonal measurement is 8.6mm and the depth is 5.24mm Then the depth % is 60.9% (5.24 divided by 8.6 = 60.9%)
Then the table would be the 51% ...
Depth 61% Table 51%

An OEC of 61% depth and table of 51% would be a nice cut in a round old cut. not too deep and not too shallow. The crown height is usually 10- 20% so "degree crown" makes no sense to me. And I have no idea what the 4.5mm measurement is unless it should read
8.6 x 8.5 x 5.24 that would make sense and would go with the rest of the description.

I think whoever listed this stone doesn't know diamonds very well, so you just might have gotten a great stone. Love those smaller crowns 51% which means it is probably a high crown as well which is nice. Couldn't tell from those pictures though.

There is a 2.42c J VS1 OEC on www.jewelsbyericagrace.com and here are the stats given ($21,000)
Stunning loose 2.42ct Old European Cut diamond with a really lovely face up and spread! A really fireball that you can see from miles away. Look at the kaleidescope of colors from the video clip to see the stone's true personality and character.

Diamond measures 8.88 x 8.50 x 4.94mm. (EGL report is pending) But the depth on this stone is pretty shallow about 56.8%
http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/Jewelry/Loose-Diamonds/242ct-Loose-Old-European-Cut/21546558_J49V8C#!i=1717848983&k=86gbbT9
That price for a 2.27c OEC is great. The faceting looks nice. Did you asked if the stone is chipped? The girdles on those old stones were usually pretty thin, but ask a jeweler if it has small chips if it can be fixed. For that price you could afford to polish out the chip if it has one. You go girl! Awesome price for a great diamond...love those OEC's!

Looks good to me for that price. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your concern, advice and math :errrr: ! Lol. I actually wrote above that I had an appointment yesterday with the appraiser. The seller isn't usually a jewelry seller, so I knew there would be errors. It was a risk I had to take. I posted Charles Carmona's results in the SMTB section of PS, here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/presenting-my-1930s-2-16-h-si1-oec.173042/ if you're interested.

I'm actually kind of sad for the seller. She emailed me to check up on me this morning, and I replied with my findings. I emailed her back with the correct measurements, but told her she was spot on with estimating the color and clarity.. she replied with this:

Dear JK_notrlyblonde,
That is wonderful news-Thank you! I so appreciate your
graciousness over my inexperience and inadequate upfront
knowledge of this ring. I have certainly learned my lesson about
accepting things from people at face value. I do appreciate your
telling me that I did grade the color and clarity properly-that
made me feel good even though I botched everything else!

I am assuming your appraisal is higher than the $5600-good for
you! I am happy that such a lover of antique jewelry as yourself
acquired this treasure.

I will go ahead and finalize the sale-and never sell this type of
ring again without a formal apraisal or certificate in hand!

Take care and thank you again for your purchase!

I feel guilty :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Re: Can you veteran/vintage cut PS-ers check out my OEC purc

Guilty???!

Girl, just stare at the pretty ring...get lost in the sparkle...you'll find you'll get over it...... ;))

Don't know, don't care, and if she's not going to do her homework, too bad, so sad. She's learned her lesson, so good for her.

You enjoy that little (actually, BIG) precious! And if you decide you hate it, I am in the LA area for an easy transaction, lol. :naughty:
