THe seller appears to be a jeweler by trade/dealer, and they usually price things based on what they are worth. You don't get steals that way as a rule, though exceptions happen. The hand shot worries me because the stone looks very lifeless and dull, and there does seem to be some damage to the stone in the photos, but it is really hard to tell. It is not one I would have jumped on, if that means anything, just based on the photos.![]()

I have had very good luck with two OECs I bought for peanuts from sellers like yours: They run "antique malls" or specialize in $10 - $200 sales of random costume jewelery. When they get a diamond they just want to move it and make their profit, no cares about "market value". So you may indeed have found a deal!
The seller being a jeweler or not was my primary red flag, because if they were a jewelry dealer specifically the price was so low it makes me suspect the stone is poor quality. Given what you said, the price is less suspect, and you could have found a steal! The photos of both my OECs bought in similar circumstances were MUCH worse than the ones you posted. There is potential there.

(I need to start a "deal of the century" fund ... and then refuse to spend a dime of it on "deals of the single, drunk evening".)

That's exactly what I was thinking. If you want a steal, you have to take them as you find them.ForteKitty|1331145635|3143077 said:ETA: the table definitely does not look like 61%. they might have estimated it based on the exposed surface, but a HUGE portion of the crown is covered by the setting so the table is likely around 55%ish.

I thought from all the pics posted on the original listing that it looked REALLY promising and just as though the setting was covering a good amt of the diamond. 8.6mm for what you paid is soooo fantastic and for such a beautiful stone. I'm so happy for you! I recently got something that I also planned to scrap the setting on and reset... but once I got it, it's such a beautiful piece, I love it so much. These old stones and pieces are sometimes just so surprising. Enjoy!
