Hi PSers.

I think I have made my mind up on a stone - http://idjewelry.com/round-bd28221.html

Still accepting opinions on it though for a better sense of comfort. This feels like a very big purchase. :errrr: Diamondseeker, tyty, gypsy?

I am looking for a setting to match. My budget is around $2k with some wiggle room. My wish list for the setting:

-thin, claw like prongs
-6 prongs I think
-small, high quality pave stones (1.8-2.1 mm) that go 1/2 or 3/4 of the way around
-no "donut" (so my wedding band can sit flush)
-my wedding band is a white gold WF Elena setting, so I should probably get white gold to match.

Thanks for your help!

I'm a big fan of Erika Winters (can get at Jewels by Grace) or CVB Inspired Design. Gypsy actually started a thread recently on solitaires that might be useful. Maybe have a look through the favorite's of PS'ers. Many of these could (or have been) modified to add a pave band and the basket modified band fit flush (or flush-ish).

In terms of a flush fit for your wedding band, there are a few other details to consider. The shape of the basket that holds the main relative to the specific ring you want to sit flush. The angle of the upper shoulders can present issues if it flares/flutes out and that flare is not floating over the band. If the stones in the band are wider than the band itself and the w-band won't fit below that height...that can cause the stones and w-band to rub and fit oddly.

Pave bands come in all kinds of looks. I love the look of a protective channel, but others like the diamonds right in the band. Many vendors have variations on this channel-theme. This is just one more design choice you get to make.

Erika Winters and CVB both do gorgeous work, but a pave solitaire from Erika Winters will be substantially more than $2k. CVB would be closer - you could get a setting from her with at least some pave for close to budget. She does lots of custom work, and I am sure she would make a lovely 6 prong pave solitaire.

Here is the closest I could find to what you're looking for:
http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/the-kathryn-solitaire/ (note that the pricing is for a plain shank. You'd have to ask what the price difference would be for half eternity and 6 prong head)

And I think this one is really pretty, and just barely over budget. Less pave than you are looking for, though:

And my personal favorite of hers (I'm sure pave could be added to the shank, but I love it as is):

If you definitely want a six prong pave setting under $2k: I would ask IDJ what they can access in 6 prong pave solitaires in that price range, pick your favorite, and do it all in the same place. That way you should avoid a fee for setting the stone. If you find an over budget setting you love way more, I'd have IDJ put your stone in a $200 stuller temp setting so you can wear it in the meantime, and save up for what you really want.

If you can cancel the Elena band it might be worth it to go with matching band from BGD, they would have to tell you whahow the best band is. Either the Naomi or the Truth pave band may work. WF has the legato band and that may work too. http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-rings/legato-sleek-line-pave-diamond-wedding-band-67.htm

And it would save you a little money.

Thank you, rockysalamander, fightgravity & gypsy!!! You have given me some beautiful options and a lot to think about. I love all of these settings, but especially the BGD setting. I will spend some time looking at some of the IDJ settings and see if they can create delicate prongs. :))

Maybe this is a silly question, but why do a lot of rings have the "donut?" Does it serve some structural purpose? Also, do any of you have input on the IDJ stone?

Crown is low. Ideally you want a crown over 33.5 to lower chipping risk and also for more fire. If the girdle is thin anywhere you'd have to pass because the chipping risk would be too high. It is HUGE though in terms of spread. The girdle says medium so that's good. The ASET is great. It will favor white light over colored light and fire.

If it is eye clean AND all those wisps aren't affecting transparency then you are okay.
