can you stack thin bezels?

I am working on the very early stages of an idea for my reset (which will be sooner than 5 years away, :D :D :D but how soon is still in question)

and my original idea is to do a simple bezel 5 stone in yellow gold (millgrainin? who knows)

the twist is that id like to have them slightly stacked on top of each other. Ive attached a few pictures to show what i mean. now I know these arent ideal, but i havent seen anything that exactly fits my vision.

now my question is...could this be done with with a really tight bezel? it doesnt have to be waffer thin, because i want the yellow gold to be noticable.. but i mean, pretty thin.

Anybody?

Hating this idea?

I think it's so cool! I've never seen anything like that before. I keep waiting for someone who knows to post a reply!

Pretty! My only suggestion, which you're probably already considering, is making sure the profile looks lovely. In your inspiration pic, I see so much metal. The top view looks very elegant and I like the stacking idea!

Yeah the bezels are not the best in either of those inspiration rings. Which is why I'm concerned. Could it be done with a tight sholdt esc bezel??

I want a really open under body with the center and first set only held with an open bezel s and the last set bezels and low set pretty much part of the band....I want it really low profile, yet still have the center more pronounced. That's why I don't just want a normal bezel band.

I'm honestly too green to know all that much about Sholdt bezels, though I do know they are fab. BUT, from what I have come to learn about you, Niel, is that if you are involved in the process and you find an artisan who is able to create your vision - I know it will turn out spectacular!! :)

Thanks :wavey:

I'd love to talk to a vendor but this looks be to a 2014 project and I don't want to waste someone's time now

I hear you. It's so hard to be patient about this like this!!

Niel...

This is freakin' cool. I'm surprised no one has done this before? I think it's a great idea and would look fab!! If anyone could do it, it would be Sholdt (the king of bezels)! :appl:

Haha right, that's why I started this thread. Just pinning 1 million inspiration pics on pinterest isn't sufficing.

I was thinking a SK or an erd depending on budget. Or VC if the quotes are good enough... its going to be really minimal, open under basket for the center and first pair. Similar to a ritani, where there just an open space.

I have some pictures of overlapping bezels - it's a design I love. I'll see if I can add some here later. I think it looks better when the stones are angled so they still curve to hug the finger as opposed to looking like stairs.

can you elaborate? do you have those pictures??

Here's my favorite profile with a nice curved line as opposed to a stepped one:

I also like when the overlap is as small as possible. And I like a fairly dainty bezel, especially in five stone. If you like milgrain, maybe consider doing the milgrain in the style of James Meyer ring?

I think it would be gorgeous!

ok cool, i guess thats a little of what im talking about. I dont want it to have as large of steps between the bezels, but i do want you to be able to see the difference. From what I've estimated, my 15 pointers would be able to go pretty might right into the band, then the 32 pointers be slightly higher, and only bezeled, no bottoms... then the center would be melded on top of the 32 pointers.

this sits too high, id like them all to be as low as possible, but the open area is sort of what i meanm and the layers...

yeah i was thinking inside millgraining if i did it

could you, in theory, have it both curved and layered?

I think so. In my head, anyways! :D

Right? That's how I feel too, like the right angle of the 32 pointers could have it do both. I dunno. I wish o could draw my vision better but it always comes out terrible.

Ok, woke up with an idea for you: maybe you should get your mom a .25 ct K colored single station DBTY bracelet for her wedding present. That way you could make sure you like K color in a YG bezel. You could order it now to give you a few weeks to wear it yourself and get to observe it in all different environment. It would probably be over your budget but it would be such good research it seems like a good investment. Just a random idea!

haha really good idea! I just looked there a .29 K SI1 from US certified diamonds for about 200, that may be something good to look into!

for whatever reason im starting to really HATE white metals. so boring....

Well that's it! Nice find!

I had actually considered thag a front runner for a little while. There's two reason I had moved away from that design, one I want an open bottom. I miss that about my ritani. It really let my digit breath with the drastic finger size changes due to the varied Michigan weather.

second I want it to hug my finger as low as possible.

If you are maybe open to semi-bezel, this over-lapping Sholdt is one of my favourite settings: http://www.sholdtdesign.com/Vashon/R237.htm

(There is a good photos of the side profile in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/the-sholdt-thread.175520/page-2)

I would really like this if the bezel was completed (yeah, I know... totally change the design)... But, seriously, can this be done? Couldn't Sholdt just "finish out" the bezel somehow?

Yeah. And I should keep it in mind sense it would help me keep yellow gold and still keep the stone looking white.
