I''ve been on the hunt for the perfect promise ring, and after looking through over 5,200 rings on ebay, I''ve found one that makes my heart go pitter-pat.

The problem is the size: it''s a 5.25 and I wear between a 7 and 7.5. so 7.25 would be perfect, but can the ring be resized up two full sizes?

I tried to insert the photos but it says it must be a PS image, so I don''t think it worked. I''ll attach an image of the back on the next post.

The stone is a .25 carat diamond of unknown pedigree, which doesn''t concern me as much as the setting. I love the setting, but it has enamel which I worry would be damaged by the resizing?

Thanks.

This is the back, as you can see the detailing/enamel doesn''t continue all the way around the ring and it looks quite solid with a fair bit of gold to work with, I hope.

I''ll post one more with the view of the side to see where the enamel ends.

This is the side view. It looks like a sturdy setting and I''m really excited at the prospect of having this ring as my promise ring, because it''s still enough like an e-ring to make sense in its context, but nothing like the e-ring I would choose for my actual engagement.

And it''s pretty, unique, and I keep sneaking peeks at it between viewings of other rings. Please help me realize my dream, PS, or stop me from setting my heart on something that can''t be done.

If that black is enameling it is probably not resizable. But it looks more like "antiquing" to me. Antiquing is a black stain that is painted into the impressed areas. But the jeweler will most likely charge you for "re-antiquing" after it is sized, as it can wear off during sizing or heavy duty cleaning.

But there should be no problem in resizing up 2 full sizes if it is antiquing?

Shouldn''t be a problem if it is antiquing. Just a warning- I have seen rings re-antiqued sloppily. And with sizing up this much, you want to make sure the gold at the back of the shank does not become too thin (ie. sizing stock should be used rather the "stretching" the metal) Find a reputablejeweler and you won''t even need to ask about these issues.

Good luck.

What beautiful rings! I had a ring with antiquing and it took a couple of sizings before it came off and as missrocks said it can be redone. Another thing to consider if the bands might become too thin on the back you can have the jeweler add gold instead of stretching the bands. It will cost more but if these make your heart sing then it''s probably work it to have it done.

The seller has not replied to my question about enamel vs antiquing, do you think it''s a safe enough bet that I should go ahead and bid on it anyway?

Also, considering current gold prices, does anyone have an idea about how much would be a fair price for this estate ring? I''m a bit nervous about being outbid but don''t want to drive the price up beyond my range by bidding too soon.

Thanks for the replies, Missrocks and marcyc!

I managed to win it for $141. I''m praying it can be resized, but I guess I''ll find out. Any tips on finding a reputable jeweller in one''s area? Just wander into stores until I find someone who seems to have fine jewellery, perhaps ...

I''m so excited. I really love these rings. Now if only my FF would stop feeling so emasculated by me purchasing my replacement ring ...

Those are very special rings! Congratulations on winning them!

I would think they could be resized...however, you got a considerably good deal on them all things considered, for a purchase price of only $141.00 regardless if you can resize them or not...You might also consider having the 1/4ct reset along with the two tiny diamonds that are in the matching wedding band (considering you wont be using the band, as it is just a promise ring--and why waste perfectly lovely diamonds??). I wouldn''t do it unless you find the cost of resizing too expensive since you really love the settings...but it''s a good alternative if you must come up with one.
