Can someone please tell me if this diamond is cracked or has a natural fault?

If it has to be diamond it’s hard to find much for your price but things are out there.

However, nice rings can be had for that price in gold and gemstones like amethyst or topaz.

Horrible advice! :knockout:

Better advice: :Learn more about diamonds so you can make better-informed buying decisions.

It is very typical for the price paid.
Even buying from a drop shipper online is not going to move someone up much if at all in that price range.
Someone good at ebay shopping might get something a little better for the price, or maybe not.
Paying more money of course they could get something better.

Thanks all, gutted but thanks!

In terms of cost, I paid just under £200 (budget for this was around 250), so it's probably "bottom of the barrel" (or lower!) compared to most the tings I've seen on here. It was intended for a xmas gift to my wife, as she collects rings, mostly "dress rings" with "pretty coloured stones".

The reason this style of ring was important and took me a long time to find, it was kind of intended as a back up engagement ring, as hers needs repairing. (well re-repairing as a the diamond had falled out, but the repair job done locally was pretty awful and my wife wants to have it fixed, but we dont know any other jeweller near by that we trust...)

It seems hard to find rings in her size with the 3 small diamonds set either side, but she does really love that style.

One thing I'm wondering now is if it would be worth replacing the center stone in it...

P.S. Thanks for the comments on the pictures, it took me a while to take one somewhat in focus :D

Hi @SpaceChimp. May I suggest an alternative? IF your wife's ring needs repair and she'd rather a 3-stone not a solitare, why not focus on that? @BrimstoneTwo just had a ring made at Durrant's of London (15 Greville St, Hatton Garden, London EC1N 8SQ, 020 7242 2888) maybe that would be an option? You could get a quote to repair her ring (and have the diamond properly set) and also a new setting if she would prefer a three stone.

Don't settle on something you don't love (or even like) cuz it'll sit unworn.

Good advice, but pretty sure she'll like it :)

It looks very white anyway, some lower quality stones look dark or greyish.

Id does have the main things my wife would notice going for it, it is pretty white and most importantly it "sparkles" well!

How does it look to you? Do you love it?

To my untrained eye, at a glance it looks great, good colour, sparkles, nice setting. Up close and given that I've got really good eye sight when it comes to near objects, I can see the imperfections, though they appear worse from the side of the setting than the top, from the top you only really see slight clouding on the side of the crack.

I would suggest buying a diamond simulant ring. Based on your explanation, I see that you are mainly attracted of the ring price and the ring model. However, it's up to you if you would keep the ring or return it. If your wife don't hit hard the center diamond, if she wear the ring gently, I don't think that there is a danger of cracking the diamond.
You can ask the seller for discount, because this diamond is not eye clean!

Diamond simulants my wife would notice right away and hate to be honest  Your spot on about model (setting) and price being key factors. I've informed the seller about the crack/feathers and asked if they would be willing to discont the price given it is not as described, thanks.

spacechimp- in general, .20cts heart shapes are not recognizable as a heart- too small.

She actually likes the smaller ones with less facets better than the larger more defined heart shapes, she usually likes rings to be on the "dainty" side. :))

Guys, we're talking about a ring which was purchased for about $250.
It's got a .20ct center.
And two other diamonds, maybe .07ct each- and stones in the shank.
You can see from the pics, it's not a featherweight piece.
$250. The parts would cost close to that, with no diamonds.
The imperfections, oddly enough, give me more confidence that they are actually diamonds.
Not that anyone looking at pictures is in a position to make a definitive assessment.
Yes, if you love it SpaceChimp, enjoy it.
If the diamonds and gold are authentic, I honestly don't feel you got ripped off.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong to warn or knock it or whatever.
I just think that for $250- if the gold and diamonds are authentic- it might be a very good alternative for someone. Not everyone has thousands of bucks to spend.

Thanks :) Fairly sure they are diamonds (going by my cheapy diamond tester and untrained eye ), the gold is 18ct and hallmarked correctly anyways.

Exactly. If it is pretty, there is nothing wrong with keeping it.

Thanks :))

Thanks Niel, most of my wifes ring collection is made up of rings like you describe :)) She likes all sorts of coloured stones (except darker ones, loves opals), usually in the £50-100 mark to be honest, as thats usually quite what we spend on each other at bday/xmas. Had some nice buys in my opinion for the money, maybe not to an expert, but she *usually* likes what I buy  not always.... :lol-2:

Fixing her ring is still on the to-do list either way, just needed to find someone good that we can trust. Not because her ER is of much value money wise (it's a 15-18 point stone ring with 3 small diamonds down each shoulder with some patterning, spent an awful long time getting to know what sort of settings etc she likes prior to buying and she loved it :))), but it's priceless in terms of sentimental value to her. I'll look up the people you suggest for the repair, thanks :))

Sorry if I have missed replying to anyone, the reply have been great thank you all :)

I think this is a good gamble. I would personally keep it but warn my wife about the fractures in the diamond. If carefully worn and she’s not the kind to drop her rings, I don’t see that it would be a problem. It’s a fair price for the ring and worth risking IMO.

Thanks jadesilver :)

I've had a reply back from the seller saying that they would be willing to refund £40 due to the listing error. (making it about $210)

So I think I'll go with that and risk it based on everyones overall replys :))

Thanks again for everyones opinions, it's much appriciated.

Unless it's over priced.
How could a person possibly know that?

Hmmmm.
