Can someone give me a ballpark price on an OEC?

I have been obsessively searching for this stone today ( I want one on my finger darn it ). I came across this , in a setting I actually love! Looks good in the video ( see link below) but SI clarity. Thoughts ladies ?

YES - wow. I have that one bookmarked myself - edited - I don’t want to reveal the vendor so it doesn’t get snapped up

It is such a stunning OEC!!!! And I love the setting!

Honestly I’d even be inclined to buy it so you can see it in person...I’ve seen some of their inventory go fast (more like days, not hours)

Looks pretty! Hopefully eye clean. What is the return policy?

Ask to see the GIA report so you can see the plot.

it reminds me of @Lessics recut. I’m assuming this is a newly cut stone?
it’s very pretty. I would wonder if it flashes in that same manner/pattern to the naked eye, as it does the video.

im not sure of if newly cut stones come at a premium or equal or lower cost than antiques. If that even matters.

i think I see a feather running parallel to girdle
( I have one like that )

Isn't symmetry for OECs usually not great since they've been cut by hand? We have to throw MRB grading stats out the window for old cuts and evaluate by what is pleasing to the eye. I do love the ones from Erica!

Yes, Good or Fair symmetry is very typical for old cuts. If a stone is graded Excellent symmetry then it was likely cut much more recently.

Trying to decide if to pull the trigger or wait for a bigger stone. I love it but though it may look too small. They also posted this one but double the price at 2.05 this one is a bit over my budget but maybe.....70874653-35C6-4967-A374-38C8F30EC787.png

Wait what kind of price differential are we talking about? Also, which center stone performs better?

The second ring is 8.5k more. Same specks for the stone except for the size ( 1.44 vs 2.07). The stones perform the same to my eye ...

Have you checked out this vendor? Not sure how pricing compares...

It's hard to compare without a video, but at first glance I don't like this cut as well but hard to say

I’m really not one of the old cut experts - but it looks like a lot of the petals go dark at once and it almost looks like - a nailhead (or is it a fisheye?) in the middle?

I’m not sure what’s going on but the facets under the table aren’t my favorite personally but I am not sure how to constructively describe @diamondseeker2006 any thoughts?

@dhimer this one looks pretty. Depth is in a good range. Others can analyze the video better than I can!

It says sold :(

Oops @dhimer sorry! On Insta it still showed available. I deleted it so you wouldn’t be tempted!

This is actually an attractive option and price. It does not look like the typical rmb. How did you across this ( so I can look at more lol). How would the medium blue flouresence look with k color you think ?

Here is another "antique" looking stone, but much more expensive...(filtering for a culet is another trick...)

How do I filter for cutlet ( small, large?). Big price difference. What did you think of the one above? Will k look too yellow on it ( I’m fine with k for OEC but they seem to face whiter for some reason)

For blue nile, you go to "more filters" and just add a column for culet and click the sort in the column - it will sort anything with a culet to the top. You cannot filter by size of culet. Every site catalogues diamonds slightly differently...you have to get creative.

It's hard to say regarding the other transitional diamond. I think it is pretty and very nicely cut. I am not sure if it is a genuine antique or if that matters to you...It is a very different style. If you are open to "antique style" and don't mind if it is a genuine antique - I would look at August Vintage. They are optically ideal and will have incredible light performance and symmetry.

Many people on this forum are very particular about what they are looking for. A transitional is not the same as an old european cut. I like both, but they are different. If you have your heart set on an OEC, I wouldn't settle just because the stone is a good value.

The price difference comes down to weight and color, which are substantially different.

K color - hard to say. I personally would find it too warm, whereas others would find it just right, and others yet... would prefer warmer. It is all about personal preference. If the tint is bugging you in the photos / video, I suggest you pass. Fluorescence can make some difference, but I have never owned a flourescent diamond so unfortunately can't speak to what it is like to live with one.

Well somebody already nabbed that K!

@dhimer color wise seems like old cuts have to be judged individually. I just bought an M which faces up white.

And here’s a pic from Insta to illustrate

I placed that diamond on hold that’s why it says sold. Wow, can’t believe both stones are the same color

@dhimer phew! That was smart of you! The K is definitely worth a look.

Here’s a pic of my M next to my I stud to further illustrate the face up of these old cuts.

I think I found the one - here is report and link. Some feedback ladies ?

I'm struggling with the pattern on this one. Maybe it's the video, but the center "petals" look off center and messy to me.

Everyone has a different flavor of OEC patterns that appeal to them. That being said, I don’t like the lack of symmetry on this stone. Kite facets are off and they do not line up with table facets. The facet pattern just has no rhyme or reason. And I find the stone to be quite messy like @lovedogs said and with obstruction.

Did you ever post the example of what kind of OEC pattern you were looking for, sorry if missed it.

I agree with @Spring Day and @lovedogs on this one...I know of this stone/seller. It is a great value for the size, and it depends on your priorities.

What I do like are the big chunky facets. I bet you get lots of bold colors reflected! It is not a perfect stone as suggested - but it depends on what you like. If this stone, above all, makes your heart skip a beat, only you can say.
