I just freaked myself out when I saw the miniature cobweb like features all over my diamond. I noticed it in a jewelry store today when I was trying rings with diamonds of lesser quality. My setting (Tiffany style) is very scratched and have similar cobweb like features inside the progns and on the outside of the ring. Is it possible that the setting grain (finish) would shine through the diamond when in a strong indoor light? I got GIA cert, diamond is VS1 and F and Excellent for both polish and symmetry. The diamond is otherwise beautiful when in daylight and sparkles beautifully. I''m just concerned that this is something internal (maybe clouds or feathers). By the way, I asked jeweller to steam clean my diamond (I thougt it''s maybe fingertips or something). I hope it''s a setting (that can be replaced no problem). Please help!!!

I have to say yes. My prongs get really scratched up sometimes and I have to get them polished out otherwise I can sometimes see that reflected from the side view if I'm looking. No one will notice, but I can see it and it bugs me!

Hmmm...maybe it's time for a new setting!!!

Thanks for your reply. About getting a new setting: that''s what I was thinking. I feel a bit better now. Thanks

Oh, I meant time for a new setting for ME! LOL.

You can just get yours repolished -- I am sure your setting is lovely and doesn''t need replacing! I am glad you feel better. You must have a sizeable stone to be able to see those reflections.

I just want to replace mine because I have ADD. All the lovely rings here make me want to change mine all the time.

Actually it is not even that big (for somebody). It''s .79, brilliant cut. Yeh, I can see those reflections pretty well in an indoor light. I also looked under 10x magnifying glass. It is really only when I turn the ring around under the lamp. In a daylight the ring looks perfect. I hope those are just reflections from the setting, or else I''ll be pretty upset. I already scheduled Appraisal just to verify that my cert is real.
