Yes, my grandfather had one. But colored stones also suffer, I'm afraid. One of the reasons I like the supernova oval cut, is that it eliminates the dreaded bowtie.
 
Yes. It's all down to cut and marquise, pears and ovals particularly suffer irrespective of colour.

Swala gem traders posted some marquise Mahenges that appear to have bowtie last week.
 
Definitely – bowties are a function of the cut. Just like colourless diamonds, if cut poorly, a coloured stone will exhibit a bowtie. Certain cuts like the supernova eliminates the bowtie but the trade-off is a deeper depth (and smaller face up size).
