Can I see a size difference between .50ct and .65ct?

plan on getting a my girlfriend an engagement ring and want to know if I could see a size difference between the two.

thanks

yeah, i can totally see it. i've actually had at one point two round sapphires, one with the equivalent spread of a .50 carat diamond (5 mm) and the other with a .65 carat (diamond) spread (5.6 mm).

definitely noticeable.

get her the .65. she'll appreciate it! :wink2:

I think so, especially at this size. In larger diamonds, a 0.15ct increase really wouldn't make much of a difference.

The real question is this: what would you be sacrificing to go up to the higher carat stone? Under no circumstances would I sacrifice cut. I'd rather have a smaller and well-cut stone than a larger, less well-cut one. But something has to give - color, clarity, cost of the setting - or you have to increase your budget.

I definitely can notice it. I was in Tiffany just yesterday comparing the sizes of stones in pendants between .5 and .61 and could easily see a difference.

Yes, you can see the difference.

2nd to this. The increase in .15 makes sense if the larger stone is as well of cut as the smaller stone. I've found my .82ctw diamond studs look larger than many mall 1ctw studs because they're better cut and have a wider spread. I was comparing earrings and even my 4th grader was able to tell the difference. lol (My boys are so funny that they go into jewelry stores and make comments and notice details re: diamonds. My DH would be horrified to know I take them in!)

I'm sticking to Whiteflash's ACA. So don't plan on sacrificing cut at all. Just wanted to see if it's worth the price difference and with all the replys I guess I'll get that size or bigger if I can afford it.

Good choice! Go for the biggest ACA you can comfortably afford, within whatever color/clarity parameters are mind-clean for you. For example, if you're comfortable with J color and/or SI1 clarity, you may be able to afford an even bigger ACA.

Yes, definitely, go for the bigger size. I can see the difference. I chose a .62 pointer over a half carat stone for a project recently.

I would even recommend looking at Expert Selection to see if there are any prospects there! There are excellent stones there and sometimes the price difference can allow you to go even larger. But I'd definitely choose a .65 over a .5 for a ring.

Yep, ES are just as good! I've had both and couldn't tell the difference.

this chart actually showed me how much of a difference it is

Got it from this site http://www.woodenskate.com/jewelry/weight.html

Is the chart suppose to compare to actual size? My .42 matches the size of a .75 and my diamond is VERY well cut!

on my computer it does but I have a high res computer monitor. My girlfriends .10ct diamond matches right up with the image on my screen. Though when I do my comparison I have to go to their size to get the correct size but the one I posted here is showing everything much bigger.
