Can I get your eyes on these two?

Can I get your thoughts on these two CAD designs? Do you notice anything different between the two (besides the prongs not being bent in the bottom one)? Please let me know your thoughts.

Heres the inspiration ring. Mine doesn't have a halo but that is a 0.96 OEC with a halo, which should be comparable in size to my 1.5 rb.

The only thing I notice, is the bottom one looks "thinner" through the shank and the cutout is also proportionately thinner...

Agreed - also it appears that the bottom version may have more of a curve on the shoulder up to the center stone, with the melee closest to the center stone adjusted slightly so that the top two hug closer to the center stone and the middle one drops down every so slightly... at least I think I see this!

I think I am seeing what marymm sees re. curve of the shoulder too -

Oh good, those are all things that I asked for. A more pronounced taper and curve, and a thinner shank.
does anyone notice anything else?. Sorry for the vagueness but I'm not sure if it's my own eyes seeing this.

Prongs are different. I like the new thinner look...more like your inspiration ring.

My eyes don't notice a difference other than the second one is overall proportionally smaller. However, no one has ever accused me of having fantastic eyesight (progressive lenses before age 30, in the house  ).

Does anyone else think the diamond looks smaller in the bottom photo? To me it looks like it. For a size 4 finger, a 1.5 carat spread is roughly 50% finger coverage. I measured using a ruler on my monitor and the top photo looks accurate while the bottom doesn't. So if it's an error in the cads it's either the wrong diamond size (too small) or a too large finger size.

I did email ERD so I'm waiting to hear back from them. They're already at the wax model stage so hopefully they can fix it if it is wrong.

Me too. & The cut outs on the thinner ring look a bit more "marquis" [symmetrical] than "pear" [tear-drop] shaped.

I see what Yssie sees. Slight modifications and tweaks that overall lead to a more refined design. I have to say the CADs are looking fantastic. I'm so excited for you.

Yes, now that you pointed it out, the diamond does look smaller in the second set of CADs. However, I wonder if it's just a weird illusion--like they shrunk the ring's width down, so the diamond shrunk down with it.

The new CADs look very nice!!

Thanks I'm happy with it!

Here's what I mean...

Now that you point it out, it seems like the top picture is taken "closer up" than the bottom picture...kind of like it as at 100% screen view versus something like 90% in the bottom picture. Hopefully that is the issue. Let us know.

Question for you...are you viewing the plastic resin model in person before you move forward? Just wondering because Chris has offered that for my project but I don't know that you can tell that much from it (based on other molds I have seen in person).

He offered to ship it to me. I declined as I trust the cads and it will just delay the making of the ring...which I am super anxious to get! But if I was in the US is say yes to seeing it. The wax mold is very close to the final ring...just more angular as the file the edges to make it smooth.

will be beautiful!!!

Stop worrying! It will be fine and if not ERD will make it right!

Totally. I told ERD that if the final CADs (and resulting wax model) are size 4.25, with a 1.5 carat round, we're good to go!! I was picturing it arriving and being the wrong size...and I wanted to avoid shipping back, and all the hassle, as i really want my ring!!

I know you're really anxious to get the ring (a lot of us have been in your shoes), but I'd seriously consider having the wax mold sent to you just to slip it onto your finger and actually get a chance to feel it on your hand. Especially as it relates to the size of the diamond and how the diamond's dimensions relate to the proportions of your hand and the setting.

I know I'm not explaining this well, but the difference between pictures of something and the real thing are not trivial, and I'd rather make changes to the wax mold than to my final ring. Many times, whey you change one thing, it can affect other aspects of the setting and you can have a snowball effect that becomes a nightmare. I just want you to have a wonderful experience when you finally get this gorgeous ring versus finding details that aren't quite right and being disappointed.

Whatever you decide to do, I think the ring is going to look beautiful. WRT the size of the center stone, you only need to focus on them using the correct dimensions of the stone (which they are) vs the weight of the stone.

I actually did decide to see the resin...I just requested it. I want to be 100% sure it's right, so I recommend you do the same!

Yes Roxy you are right! I have done so. I'm anxious but not enough to get the wrong ring after all this work! Thank you so much for your advice. I'm indebted to PS for all the valuable expertise.

I was out of town for a couple of days and missed this! I think it is looking 1000 times better than when you started!! I am very optimistic about your setting and cannot wait to see you try on the wax! I hope you think imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! ;)) lol!

They sent two waxes...one with the fluted shape (for lack of a better descriptor) and another with a egg shape. So I can choose which I like better. Then they will design an eternity band to go with it. I'll anxiously stalk my mailbox everyday lol.

DS - how thick is your Tiffany legacy band?

I wanted something thinner than 2 mm as I want it to be dainty like the Metro - which is 1.6 mm. At that width the milgrain and bright cut would make the melee smaller. So I'm thinking of doing the u cut pave like the Metro. Will that work even though my ering is bright cut pave? It is a mrb so perhaps it will work as it's more of a modernized vintage look. Or perhaps I'll do 1.6 mm melee with bright cut pave which makes it more like 1.8 mm.

The Legacy band is 2mm. I wouldn't go less than 1.8 total width. I only think a beadset band with milgrain will look right with that ring, though!
