Can I get some non-diamond advice from the ladies?

Well, with the advice I got on my e-ring and bands, I thought where can I go wrong on jewelry advice? Not wasting any time since our September 27 nuptials, we are expecting our first child due September second, and as such, this is her first Mother's Day as far as I am concerned. Was thinking of something -ring, necklace, earrings, in sapphire - since it is September 's birthstone. Thoughts? If baby comes early and ends up with an August birthday will that make the piece less special, or seem stupid?

I appreciate any other ideas you may have, or input on my idea.

Is this a surprise or has she given you any hints? How about a right hand ring in sapphire? Might be worth posting in the Colored Sones forum, they'll be able to point you in the direction of nice stones.

A lot of people do stacking rings for their children so no matter how many you have you can wear them all together.
(you might want to make sure it has a sizing bar in them so that as the finger size changes over the years she can still
wear it/them).

Like...

Or the other option is a thin DBTY bracelet with 1 station (being a sapphire). Then for every baby you could add another thin
bracelet with that babies birthstone. As long as you are planning on 3 or less it would look good...if you are planning on a lot
of children then this might not fly...same with stacking rings. You usually only see about 4 stacked at most.

It would be something like this...

Or you could shop and provide your own sapphire (color stone forum could you with that). This would be more personable if
you have the time ...and have it done in this setting

Call me superstitious but I didn't want any baby related gifts before birth. I'd suggest you feel out this out with her or her mom/sister beforehand. Just in case.

I'm not superstitious but I would give it to her in the hospital while she is recovering after giving birth. You feel so blah due to the
extra weight you are still carrying and really gross (wont go into detail here... :-o ). What you really need is someone to tell
you/show you how awesome you really are. Of course you dont need jewelry for this but it is a nice momento to recognize the
amazing event!

Edit ...do you know if the baby is a boy or a girl?

Edit again...Just to clarify, I'm referring to how my first birth went...I'm sure others had different experiences!

:wavey: Very exciting! Congratulations!

You certainly can get her flowers to acknowledge she is a mother this year, but save the jewelry until the baby is actually born or the next Mother's Day. With that due date, there is no way to know the month the baby will be born, and the jewelry gift will be much more special to commemorate the birth.

Even if the baby arrives in August, a sapphire ring is better than a peridot ring as sapphire is better for daily wear due to its moh. And the significance is in the gesture. I'm sure she will be very happy with your thoughtfulness.

I don't think she would feel that way, but I may check into it.

We do know baby's gender and have a name picked out, but haven't told anyone. Having a party Saturday of mothers day weekend where we will reveal the gender to our families.

Thanks DS - she also has a charm/bead bracelet she wears on occasion, and I know the company has "baby boy/baby girl" beads and a "mother" bead. I considered something like that instead.

This is what my intial thought was as well - but I wanted other opinions.

I think the beads for the bracelet would be fine. You know the sex, you have named the baby. So no matter what might happen, this is your baby and should be remembered. I just think the more significant jewelry gift should be given when the baby is born or on her first Mother's Day after the baby is born.
