Can Cut make this much of a difference?

My Friend at work just got engaged last weekend. She came in yesterday and showed me her ring. She says that its a 1 carat princess cut. But honestly to me it looks closer to 1/2 or maybe 2/3 carat ring. I don''t know anything about the diamond specs but if it cut deeply could it really look this small?

Especially with princess cuts. When you weed out all the princess cuts with 77-85 depths you weed out ALOT.

Absolutely! When a diamond is cut too deep, the outside diameter gets smaller...
