Just curious if any of the oval experts can tell how many pavilions my oval diamond has from the attached picture? I know they can be cut with 4, 6 and 8. It is a .78 so it is not shown in the GIA cert.

We need a more up close picture and then we still might not be able to tell.

Edit...whats the depth on it?

Depth is 63.3% and I can get a close up pic.

Do these pics help tyty333?

Still too far away to tell. Can you take to a local jeweler or appraiser who can look at it more closely?

HI mrsj8610
THe "pavilion" generally refers to the bottom of the diamond- you're probably asking how many main pavilikon facets the stone has.
Do you have the GIA report number?
The GIA report has a plot that will give us some info.

Yes I would like to know how many main pailion facets the stone has. The GIA report # is 12460171 if that helps any.

Can you tell anything with the depth?

Unfortunately it's an older GIA_ and a dossier- so we can't look at the plot.
I don't believe any reliable answer will come from pics:(

They cut a lot of shallow ovals with 4 main but yours is not shallow.

You need to practice on getting more up-close photos...its not easy but it is rewarding when
you finally do get a good shot!

Do you have an iPhone? If so, I recommend getting an Olloclip for closeup photos (macro lens): https://www.olloclip.com/ There are versions of lenses for other phones, too.

I have some more pictures of my ring, not sure if it is close enough as the closer I get it, my diamond gets blurry. What are your thoughts on my diamond's cut, bowtie etc?

You may find this useful. It is not just about how close you get. Diamond photography (in fact any photography) is more about controlling lighting environment.

This may reveal more about the facet structure, contrast pattern, bowtie, and light return

Regarding the bowtie, based on your photos, I don't think it has negative effect. It goes away rather easily when you don't view the diamond so closely, or tilt the diamond
