Can a ring be sized from 8 to 6?

Hi,

I have a ring I just got from my grandma. Its a solitaire in 4 prongs, probably a little under a carat but looks close.

Anyway, Its a size 8 now and I want to wear it on my right hand. Its platinum. Do you think it would be mangled going from a 8 to a 6?

Its a simple 4 prong seting without anything fancy going on. Its not antiquie, its from her second husband who she married in the late 70''s so its about 30 years old.

With a plain solitaire that shouldn''t be a problem. If it was a more ornate ring...you might be out of luck.
