I have an x-prong setting (not a dvatche, but a generic

) with a 0.38ct round that measures 4.5mm. Can I have another diamond reset into that setting, say one slightly bigger at 5mm or so? Or, are those type of settings made just specifically for the measurements of the original diamond set into them?

Thanks.

It''s going to depend on the details of the design and the depth of the stone. Half a mm isn''t all that much but it could be a problem. Your chances are pretty good. Show it to a setter and they should be able to answer your question forthwith.

Thanks for your quick reply. I don''t want to take it back to the original jeweler b/c I am buying the diamond online, and I''m kind of embarressed b/c I''m not buying the diamond from them.

Actually the diamond I am considering is 5.36 mm -- almost a whole mm bigger.
