Who Calling Widget!!!!

I''ll take the diamond tennis bracelet at the top and the watch set with red and white stones (are those rubies?). I have seen many of your rings and some of your earrings, but I think you were hiding the bracelets and watches! They are as good as your rings, which is saying a lot!

LinB: No, ruby not my birthstone, but I''ve always thought it should be. Don''t you agree that Aries and Rubies should go together?
2.gif

Speaking of which...I just have to post this. I saw this bracelet not long after my VC ring was finished...and thought it just ''had to be''. It''s from the ''40s...and the only star ruby bracelet I''ve ever seen.

I happen to love it, and totally enjoy my SR ring more having this bracelet to wear with it. But I fear few others do. I suspect my DIL would have absolutely NO interest in it someday.

For these reasons, it''s probably one of my more ''tradable'' items:

Can I trouble you for some more pics of your diamond bezel stud earrings? They look gorgeous and I''d like to get a better look at them.
Here you go...

I love that bracelet!!! Today I saw the most incredible cabachon (SP?) sapphire, pearl and diamond bracelet. I was supposed to be looking for furniture for the summer house. But DD and I went to the estate jewelry section first LOL!!!! I tried it on, and died.

OMG! those earrings!

I love them!!! I love how the bezel is nice and thin and delicate and the overall setting is very delicate! Beautiful...I might just have to get a mini version of these someday.

Those watches are to die for. Sooooooooooo beautiful. You certainly have jewelry that are treasures Widget.
That''s for sure! You can leave the ruby watch on the left to me in your will!!!!! I love how delicate-looking it is.

This is a fun thread; it is great hearing about your collection!

Thanks so much ,widget, for showing us your beautiful collection and for sharing some personal bio info.

I do hope your DIL appreciates your beautiful pieces. Have some pieces been "set aside" for your granddaughters?

DH and I recently updated our wills and the lawyer asked me to make a list of every piece and the name of the beneficiary. Even though my collection is meagre compared to yours, I''m having a heck of a time deciding. Any words of wisdom? We have a daughter and son, both married with granddaughters (one each) who love sparklies.

Hi, Isabel...

I must admit that I was initially horrified when you started this thread!
6.gif
But now I'm having great fun.
5.gif

Considering my heirs and what I imagine their taste might be plays a BIG part in my choices of what to buy and what to keep. For instance after I got the emerald ring (which I assume will eventually end up with my May Grandbaby), I started actively looking for a gem quality opal antique for my October girl. The result of my l-o-n-g search are the opal earrings pictured above. Now I'm second guessing them, thinking nobody will 'like' and enjoy them as much as I do!
14.gif

My instructions are less formal, and I keep them in a letter in my safe. I'm letting my kids decide what eventually goes where. Most important I've left detailed instructions of where to sell what if they decide they want to unload some of this stuff. My greatest fear is that they won't appreciate what they have, and "give" it away to some local crook!
32.gif

My latest plan of "less is more", and upgrading quality is largely an estate planning tactic. Better, rarer, stuff I think is more liquifiable, and might increase in value over time.

Oh, heck...who am I kidding? All this is probably an excuse/rationalization to continue on with my obsession!!! LOL

Widget,

You are so lucky to have a DIL and granddaugters. My daughter is almost 35 and does not care for jewelry at all.

I just pray that I live long enough to see my grandsons marry, otherwise I have no idea what will become of my preacious Pads and my other jewelry.

She teases me she will sell them on ebay

Hi Widget,
I did wonder which SR piece came first...they are a match made in the eyes of the zodiac for sure!

So your DIL has no interest?

Hi Widget
35.gif

Hope you are doing well. I found my way to lurk at Pricescope for my lunch hour and stumbled on this GREAT thread!!! You are such a wonderful person and I''m glad to learn a little more about you.

I adore all your pieces!! The emerald 3 stone still sets my heart racing

ohhhh and your 3 stone asscher....I never tire of seeing that beauty!

Those studs .... Can you tell us more about them?
Merc: It''s really embarrassing admitting this...especially on PS...but I actually know little about them.

I bought them YEARS ago, long before PS, and before I knew much about diamonds/antiques. In retrospect, I was really lucky finding such a nice and unique pair.

My best guess is that they''re over 3ctw and under 4, OECs, quite warm in color, and eye-clean to me. They''re platinum, and they''ve been aged anywhere between ''20s amd the ''50s...

Re: the watches...

The one on the right is a Hamilton, probably a man''s dress watch, circa 1940s.

The one on the left is Boucherer, plat with teensy rose-cut diamonds and French-cut rubies, circa 1911..

They are fantabulous. I''ve been developing a new long-term project ... in dreams only! Your studs just added a new dimension to it ... I''m wanting antique stones like those or like Surfgirl''s transitional cut, set into miligrained bezels like your studs, only hanging on locked french hooks -- and, sigh, much much smaller of course! Attached a pix to TRY to show the idea ... though I know its super lame-o to copy celebs. Not my intent!!!

Oh I hear ya, Deco!

The rash of fabulousl old-cut stones that have been showing up around here lately now have me lusting for another pair....only this time unbezelled!

Is there no end to this disease????

HA!!! I *did* see an unbezeled pair on EBAY ... right here and even thought of you before you mentioned your new unbezeled stone desires ... yet I didn't deem them Widget-worthy!

ETA: I saw these too that were pretty close to what I had in mind ... not close enough though.

I think this will form the foundation of my argument that I really should have a ruby ring widget.

I hope you won''t mind being called as a material witness?! lol

Thanks for sharing your jewellery and a bit of yourself with us!

Wow Deco, not that I would spent 3K on ebay ever, but wow. Ok, new item on the life list- fab OEC studs.

Widget- I love the setting, it''s just so elegant and the bezels are super-slim; I''ve never seen anything like those. Lovely! You are one lucky lady (but I think you knew that)! Thanks for the eye-candy.

Widget, your collection is gorgeous. I love bees and the bee earrings really caught my eye.

Could you tell us more about those?! Yum-o!

Hi, IG...

Thanks..I love ''em too. Like most of my earlier acquitions, I don''t know much about them. (I think I was too dumb to ask questions.)

They''re 18K, with teensy ruby eyes. I was told they were French, but I''ve never found any hallmarks. No clue as to their age. I''m not so sure they''re bees, though...sometimes I think they''re fruitflies, or some other pest.

Born and raised in So Cal, went to UC Berkeley, and have lived in No Cal ever since. Yes, I''m the grandmother of two gorgeous girls: 6 and 8. I have two WONDERFUL sons, one living in Florida and the other right here in town.
Go BEARS! Widget, I went to school at Berkeley, too! I didn''t know you were local! But then again, I didn''t know how drop-dead-gorgeous you were, either! You do own some seriously beautiful pieces!!

I haven''t ventured in this area for awhile, but I am SO glad I did!!! I love your collection, Widget! I wish I had a friend like you to go shopping for antique jewelry with! I don''t have a lot of confidence in how to value old pieces in order not to overpay. But I am also with you on the idea that I''d really like to have a few wonderful pieces and no more mediocre things, which I have plenty of already! I love your classic pieces like the new Leon sapphire ring, the VC ring, the emerald ring, and of course, the magnificent asscher! Really, it is all beautiful!

I love many of the shops on El Paseo, some really cool shops that have great Estate pieces, I drool at the jewels every year we go.....

But what I really want to know, is what, originally, brought you to PS???

To Libster...I hope you see this! I missed your note above...how have you been, Girl????

I was a regular over there, heard PS mentioned a few times, and thought I''d better go check it out. Discovered a much more active ''colored gemstone forum'' over here and joined.

HI:

I wish!!!! I would like nothing more than to be able to spend Jan/Feb/Mar outside our dreary climate......but with a son in grade 8 that isn''t going to happen anytime soon.......unless Palm Springs has an International School for "drop in" students.....

cheers--Sharon

LOL Sharon...I almost edited that Snowbird comment out yesterday after I thought more about it. Doesn''t it usually refer to "older folks" who maintain second homes in warmer climes? I assumed you weren''t that!
