calling DBTY owners - I need advice before I purchase!

Decided to check off something on my wish list for my birthday! I've been looking at the WF 0.75 ctw white gold DBTY necklace. I've also looked at the 0.5 ctw, but it doesn't look as evenly distributed to me.

The 0.75 ctw looks like it has 14 diamond melee - does that make them 5 pointers? Are those absurdly small? Should I ask for a different size and/or quantity?

I'd like to ask them to add 2 inches so I can wear it as both a 16 or 18 inch necklace, but I'm not sure what the right terms are for it. I've seen people call this a "2 inch extender," but I've also read others saying they requested "a jump ring." Is there a difference and what's the right way to ask for this?

Lastly, should I be looking anywhere other than WF for ideal melee?

Hi @LawmaLlama!! I think it depends on the look you're trying to achieve. The .75ctw will be small stones spaced closer together (just over an inch apart). I personally would prefer slightly larger stones spaced a little further apart but evenly. Maybe you could ask WF for a quote on a custom necklace - perhaps 9 stones each .07 or .10 and compare pricing.

WF made my dbty and I have 7 .15 stones spaced exactly 1.5 inches apart starting from the middle of the chain. I found it useful to draw out the chain and play with the spacing.

The extender is an extra piece of chain that is removable...you clip it on and off - so you'd ask for a 16 inch necklace and a separate 2 inch extender chain. The alternative is asking them for an 18 inch necklace with a jump ring at 16 inches. When you wear it at 16 inches, the extra 2 inch chain will hang in the back.

You could also inquire with BGD but their pricing is higher. IDJ can also make a beautiful dbty but you'd need to specify PS quality stones and handmade bezels. BE has also done a few nice ones.

Thanks ac117! This is helpful. I think I will get the extender, rather than a jump ring. I have some costume necklaces that have the jump ring and the dangly part bugs me.

Do you have a thread with a photo of your necklace? I'd love to see the spacing and sizes for comparison.
 
Hi LawmaLlama: I had IDJ make my DBTY necklace and there are 7 20 pointers in the front only, they do not extend around the back of the necklace. Yekutiel made it with a chain that has a "ball joint" where you can pull it to be a short as you wish, even choker style. It's an 18" chain that can be shortened from there. The diamonds are beautiful and quite sparkly. His bezels are very nice. You may want to speak with Yekutiel before you make the purchase. Doesn't hurt to exercise all options.
