We had our first doctor appt. this morning. I was very nervous last night and couldn't sleep, but in the end it was a little anti-climatic since all that really happened was I gave a urine sample, answered a lot of questions and got a slip for bloodwork. We did get to schedule an ultrasound for first thing Monday morning. I am very excited, but also a little nervous because the nurse practitioner did a pelvic exam and said she thinks I am less pregnant than we think. Well, that's not possible given my chart and our BD schedule. I have to be at least 6 weeks and a day or two. So now I am worried that something is wrong. Does anyone know whether measuring your uterus is an accurate indicator at this stage?
They don't normally do pelvic exams here and only start measuring your fundal height after 20 weeks, but as far as I'm aware the only real way to get an accurate indicator of dates early on is with an ultrasound.

I did a bit of googling and what info there was basically said that they can't really detect pregnancy easily this way until 4 weeks after conception. Add to that the fact that all women are different in shape and size and at such an early stage even a couple of days could make a big difference I can't see how you could really get anything much more than knowing that someone was pregnant.

Implantation can take different amounts of time in different people, so that can make a difference of a couple of days too.

I would try not to worry and you will hopefully get a real answer at the ultrasound on Monday.

Amber- I'm sorry you almost passed out, but it sounds like the rest of the appointment was wonderful! The day of the next ultrasound will be here before you know it.

nyc- Sending extra 'stay put' vibes to you and those babies of yours. :)

indypitty- Welcome and congratulations!

natalina- As others have already said, it's a waste of money. A bunch of women in one of the FF due date communities tried it, reported back after their big ultrasounds, and the results turned out to be less than 50 percent accurate, if I remember correctly. I was eager to try it too before reading those results!

Peony- I'm keeping my fingers crossed tight for you and your little bean, hon!

November- If it's a guess based on a pelvic exam, I wouldn't be too worried. You're still so early- a matter of days can't be too much of a difference, right?

mela- Cute diaper bag and GREAT price!

25w6d (99 days until 40 weeks! Double digits, woo-hoo!)

Thank you so much for your reassuring words everyone! She definitely did scare me. My own google research seems to say that this is the least suefull indicator of gestational age at this point, and since I have not had any bleeding or cramping, I am hoping all is well. I am also a really small person, so I wonder if that could have something to do with it as well. I am really looking forward to this ultrasound on Monday. On a lighter note, my DH was really uncomfortable with being in the room for the pelvic exam. When the nurse practitioner stepped out for me to change, he asked if he could step out too! I told him no, he better get used to it because during the birth he''ll be seeing a heck of a lot more and there will be no stepping out then!

Indypitty - welcome!

Thanks so much, everyone, for the welcome and congratulations!

I just took another HPT (just to be sure)! I swear I think I''ve taken at least ten. Were any of you crazy like this?

HAHA I took a bunch too! I was even convinced that my very pink line was faint and therefore nonexistant.

haha, I think it''s normal!. Thankfully the Dr was able to see us a couple of days after we found out...otherwise I would have been testing every day!

Indy, I''ve known I was pregnant for over two weeks now, and I still have boxes of tests I use sporadically. It''s kind of fun- since I was a TTCer, it''s nice to see a real LINE.

November, my husband was like, "Wow, I never thought I''d see so many things go inside of you- while I was watching. It''s WEIRD." He was really good in the procedure, as I explained the tools and things like that.

My April 1st has been one cruel joke.
39.gif
Last night a little after midnight I noticed some bright red blood in my urine, and today I had some brown spotting. I refuse to believe (at this point) that my baby won''t make it, but we''re so, so scared! We''re going for an ultrasound this afternoon. Please cross your fingers for us (or maybe say a little prayer if you do that).

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Hi Peony,
Just delurking to say I hope everything''s okay.. Let us know how the ultrasound goes as soon as you can.

Sorry to hear about the spot still being there. What did the doc say about it?
Just a few more weeks and you''ll be past all the BS and the billing etc. Hang in there my friend. Just a little bit longer...

Also, tee hee. Busted! Blue is for Romeo. If I *had* to guess what I''m having....well....the diaper bag says it all.

Peony- thinking of you!!

Mela - GREAT find!

Woohoo diamond baby!

April Fools...
1:41 pm text to DH: "Really fast labor. Ulysses Walker - u werent here 2 name. 1.21 pm. 7lb13oz. (Nosy Coworker) caught. Working rest of day then coming home. Lucky car seat is in car."
1:43 pm text from DH: "Have fun. Bring home a pizza"
He told me when he got home that his first thought was, "Ooh, that''s a good baby name," followed by "what would they use to weigh the baby in an office building?"
3.gif
I didn''t want to do a believable April Fools day joke on people because I''m afraid that they would believe it and really react. My parents would probably show up on our doorstep 10-12 hours later, which is not what I want!

I''ve been losing little bits of my mucous plug all day and chased DH around the house with a small chunk when I got home. I then had to go buy him beer to make him feel less traumatized. Oops.

Blen, that is hilarious!! Sounds like you''re in better spirits and hooray for your mucus plug!! My DH wanted me to send an April Fool''s text saying I was in labor and I said no way. I wasn''t in the mood to explain that I was kidding!

Hey guys! Thanks so, so much for all of the sweet comments! I can't thank you enough, you are the best!!!!!!!

Well, we left for the ultrasound terrified, hoping and praying that our little baby was okay. The tech did an abdominal scan this time and the first thing that the she is says is "there is one heartbeat and there is the second." We were like, "well, how can that be since we are only having one baby?"

Um guys? We're having twins!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think this happens very often, but the first tech missed one of the babies. We specifically asked the first one if there is any way it could be twins since we were concerned about that, and she said that she was 100% sure that there was only one baby. We are definitely shocked and a little freaked out since we had gotten used to the idea of one, but we have a lot of time to get used to the second.
9.gif
This whole day has been such a shock! The tech could see the bleed and it she said it was very small and that it had resolved itself.

We were planning on telling our families about the pregnancy at 12 weeks, but after the twin news we caved and told our moms. Oh, and before I wasn't planning to find the sex of the baby, but now I think I need to know because I don't think I can figure out 8 names!! I know that there is a chance that we could end up with one or even no babies, but I'm trying not to live in fear so I'm trying not to focus on that. We also do feel some guilt since I'm sure the Clomid led to the double ovulation and twins are much higher risk, but with my history of PCOS, anovulation, and super long cycles it did seem warranted.

Mandarine, Neatfreak, and NYC, I'm glad all of you are having/had your babies before me so you can teach me everything I need to know.

Oh, and for what it's worth here is my ultrasound pic (baby on the left, yolk sac on the right) from Saturday. I don't know where the other baby is hiding!

Congrats Peony!!!!! How crazy is that...I can''t believe they missed one the first time around!!!!

It''s a wild ride for sure...so get ready! The best book out there IMO is "When you''re expecting, twins, triplets, or quads" it''s written by a doctor and a mother of twins and the doc runs a huuuuuge research group that studies twins at the U of Michigan.

Just let me know if you have questions. I would be happy to answer them. CONGRATS AGAIN!!!!

Thanks Neatfreak! Did you primarily see a perinatalogist like Mandarine? I was getting so excited about my midwife that I would be sad to change, but I do want the best medical care for my babies!

Holy moly! Congrats, Peony!!

DH mentioned that he thinks it''s exciting that something''s coming out of me rather than me just getting bigger and bigger - it somehow seems more real to him. So, maybe he didn''t take it as badly as I thought he did and just wanted me to go out to get beer??

I just wanted to clarify that I think I will mainly see my OBGYN. I asked about midwives and she they told me I could see one, but they wouldn''t be able to deliver....so I thought why even bother!. I do recommend seeing a specialist, but your DR will probably tell you that anyway.

I forbid you (that''s right, FORBID!) from thinking anything other than happy little babies growing!. It''s hard, but it gets easier!.

Oh and get ready for major bloat at around week 9
20.gif

I know it''s overwhelming and you weren''t expecting it...but the shock will wash away an you will fall in love with the idea. Nobody was more shocked than my DH and he''s now over the shock and very excited!.

Yayyyyyy!! You''re having twins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peony that is crazy! Maybe you ovulated a couple days apart and one baby wasn''t as developed and thus couldn''t be seen? And I hope you aren''t feeling guilty about using clomid.. yes twin pregnancies are higher risk, but much of the higher risk is for IDs and yours are likely frats, and also, higher risk doesn''t mean completely dangerous! Modern medicine can handle what twins will throw your way. Just think, now you may not have to TTC even again (unless you want "just one more" like John and Kate)! And not to be a party pooper, but you *may* want to think about waiting another year to start med school... just a thought since twins are a lot of work and so is medical school! But then if you don''t take another mat leave in the future it will all even out. This just goes to show how you really really cannot plan your life in too much detail The twists and turns are too unpredictable.

Mandarine, your positivity and excitment are shining through!!! I definitely need someone like you to be my twin buddy because I''m pretty nervous right now. I''m really excited too, but mostly shocked. When is your due date again? Mine is Nov 16th. I think twins almost always come at 37 or 38 weeks or before, right, since they run out of room? Did they tell you when to expect them or how long they''re shooting for keeping them in there?
