I have a question for all you preggos and post-preggos... I get severely motion sick when I fly, and need to take gravol to avoid a serious upchuck fest. Did any of you ever speak to your doctors about taking gravol during pregnancy? I am not preggo yet, but am TTC and *may* be preggo when I fly in a week (but too early to test)... I also need to fly about 5 - 6 more times in the next year

.

Thanks!

ETA: don''t worry, I am not planning to take medical advise off the internet, just curious what you all heard!
Dreamer: I did a quick yahoo serach on "gravol pregnancy" and it looks like there are women who have been prescribed gravol during pregnancy. Do you have an OBGYN? I''d give them a call, tell them you''re trying and ask them about Gravol. Good luck! Motion sickness sucks!

Hi ladies,

I don''t mean to bring sad news into this happy thread, but I''ll be leaving you. Long story short, we lost this one, too.

Needless to say, we''re heartbroken. I don''t know when I''ll be back, but hopefully sooner rather than later.

Thank you all for your support.
Ebree- I am so so sorry. Many hugs to you!

I am so sorry for your loss.
Is the doctor going to run any tests on you to see what happened?

Take good care of yourself and I know you''ll be back here soon.

Tacori, I had a quick look at your PP-beautiful! And your nails are just gorgeous! I can''t keep up with a mani now, I don''t know how I''ll go when b arrives. Will go back and have another look and post in the real thread! I hope T''s teething settles down... I love the prof photos! I''m sorry I''m no help-I think they are all beautiful!

Diver I love your necklace. And that photo of Daners is divine-what a gorgeous smile!

Lili your new avatar is
30.gif
. Bummer re the AF.

Burk for some reason scooting always looks cuter to me than crawling. Yay for 12 hours! LOVE that photo of Tayva!!!

Jen what a cute belly! Hee on the belly button-did it hurt when it popped?

Snlee, I am excited for you-it''s nice to know that you look pg to others! YAY on feeling bubs move too!!!!

JackieJas, yay for a good scan! I''m sorry your SIL is butting in. I hope you like ''your'' LC too!
32.gif
Have you considered a skirt/slack/top combo for the wedding? That may give you a bit more leeway in the growth department. I know what you mean about not wanting to shop too early tho.

Jas I''m sorry to hear about the sleep probs. I wondered back when you first mentioned it if it could be postpartum depression? I really hesitate to say anything because there is such a stigma but a friend of mine had exactly that-just sleep issues and started an antidepressant and slept great. I really hope that it hasn''t offended you-you sound like a positive upbeat down to earth person from your posts and I don''t think you''re a ''depressive'' type but PPD is a chemical imbalance. The other mums have chimed in with great advice tho so I''ll leave it there! I know I couldn''t do 1 hrs sleep a night....! I''m glad you are getting the occasional good night too.

Tgal, eek on the fleas. I would be pretty upset about that! I''ve had some really odd responses ("You''re only 16 weeks? Is it twins?") so it helps to think about the really nice one! I agree with you on the early bedtime thing-that is my ideal.

MrsSmitty welcome! Thanks for introducing us to your cutie!

Ella happy 6 months to G&K!

MrsS what a great pic of Jake!

Bobo I love your new avatar!

Kay I really hope your placenta moves! Keep us updated it would be such a shame to miss out on that trip!! I have days where I''m starving now and days where I don''t. Other friends have said that they have not had any increased appetite or cravings at all right thru pg so you sound like one of those lucky ones!

NF we are in a small apartment and looking to move so we haven''t bought much baby stuff. I struggle with that though because I would like to be all ready from 32 weeks on. I have bought some clothes but everyone says don''t buy too much-you get given a lot. Do stock up on nappies (diapers) though if you plan to use disposables-buy a bag whenever you see them on sale. You''ll need about 12 per baby per day. I totally hear you on the dress thing. Glad you found something for the short term at least!

LIA hope your US went well and you are having a fun trip!

Gotta run but I will be back with questions soon....

NeatFreak, I got a cute early maternity dress from BabyStyle too (early, meaning I was like 13 weeks and barely showing, but I was in that "I NEED maternity clothes" stage mentally - even though physically I don''t think I really did!). I got a few things here and there at Motherhood but never anything at Mimi or Pea in a Pod because they were way too expensive. Since you''re so small to begin with, I can tell you that it''s going to be hard for you to find any clothes that fit you well in the end -- if you get a big belly, that is. I was also a size 4 pre-preggo (and post-preggo, yay!) and I was wearing maternity size 8 pants at the end. I probably needed a 10 for the belly but those would swim on me in the legs, so I was forever pulling up my too-tight pants but I had no choice! Enjoy your cute belly while ya got it, and enjoy those summery baby doll tops!

Hee, Jen, my hubby has the "Real Men Have Twins" tee too. I posted this photo last year, but I''ll post it again just b/c I have it handy -- mine says "Babe" pointing up and "Babies" pointing down
9.gif
Hope Adrian had a good birthday!

Tacori, the Tessa photos are adorable!! Not that it matters now, but I think my faves are 1, 3, and 5. Are you still gazing lovingly at your PP?
30.gif
I must be dumb but I just never thought to do engraving the way you got it done, and now I *really* want to do it for my wedding band!

Our big news is ... we''ve got a tooth!!! Katelyn''s got one of her bottom teeth poking through. Awwwww, my little girly is growing up!!! Gabe''s hasn''t come through yet, but he is SO teething and cranky. And we''re in the middle of a heat wave, which isn''t helping things any. Blaaaah.

Anyway, here''s my twin tees photo:

Ella -- I love the twin tees you got!! The one I ordered for myself has 2 babies in sort-of a ying/yang position on the belly in rhinestones. One of my faves was "yes, it IS twins" since i get that question a lot, but i''m a sucker for anything sparkly :) DH''s should arrive today and has no feet or anything on it -- i think it''s one he''ll actually wear and can wear after babies come (lots of the father-to-be ones were cute tho) --- YAY YAY YAY for K and her tooth! Now you''ve got one more to go and they should be back to happy for a little while!
9.gif
toothy pics?

Gemma -- belly button didn''t hurt popping, but the skin right there is REALLY sensitive to the touch! i guess it''s not used to being exposed...

yesterday ended up being really fun but i am just SO tired today already -- the kids had fun so it was worth it, but i wish i didn''t have to teach later... have a good monday...

Ebree: I am so very sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself and if you need support please post. I''ll be keeping you and your family in my prayers.

Tacori: Tessa is such a cutie. I like all of the pictures (sorry no help).

Dreamer: I took the generic for Zofran while I was in my first trimester for m/s. It helps but you need to take it before you''re actually sick for it to work. The other downside is that it''s very expensive if you don''t have health insurance or prescription coverage ($30/pill).

Tgal: I agree with you on sticking to an earlier bedtime. When my sister and I were little our bedtime was 9pm. Even in the summer. I don''t know what it was when we were babies - but it most certainly wasn''t that late!

Neatfreak: If you haven''t found a dress already - do you know anybody that''s had a baby lately? My boss'' wife gave me a bunch of her maternity dresses and they fit me great. She''s not much bigger than I am so it really worked out. My SIL in Pittsburgh also sent a whole bag of stuff for me. I like MiMi Maternity but they are way expensive so I''ve only bought the clearance items. The only thing I paid full price for was a pair of denim capris (which I''m wearing at the office today). Target also has some cute stuff.

The heat is on here in Ohio. My hands and feet are swollen from the heat/humidity and it''s awful. At night I have to have the AC on and also a fan blowing right on me. Any other preggos finding sleeping with a watermelon tough?

It''s so hot here too!

Ella, I can''t remember if I posted this but yesterday I saw about 2 mm of T''s bottom two teeth so they are coming too! Yay for K. I am sure G is right behind her. I love the engraving on the side.

Gemma, thanks! Love my PP. Her bottom two teeth are poking through so I am sure the pain has settled (until another tooth comes!)

Diva, thanks!

Thanks everyone who answered my question! In case you are interested in what I found out, I called some pharmacists and also found an excellent online support/resource for preggos run by SickKids hospital in Toronto, Canada, which is afiliated with the University of Toronto Medical School (top hospital and medical school in Canada: linky) They state that gravol (i.e., dimethylhidrate) is safe during pregnancy. Many doctors, however, will not suggest patients take it because like almost every drug out there, no systematic experiments have been conducted that prove it is safe (only tylenol and diclectin (m/s med) are proven safe). Many doctors fear litigation after the thalydimide issues in the 70s, and so pharmacological treatment for m/s is still rare, despite evidence that is can be severly debilitating for many women. However, gravol has also never been shown to be harmful, even in prolonged use during pregnancy, and MotheRisk offers some reviews of the literature about this. In canada, anyway, it is often prescribed for m/s and is routinely used when women end up in the hospital due to dehydration and inability to keep down diclectin. The pharmacists I spoke with also confirmed that gravol is safe during pregnancy.

Anyways, thought I'd pass on that info in case anyone else was curious. Obviously, avoiding meds is always best and speak to your doc before using anything.

Thank you all for being so sweet and supportive. Though we're devastated, I'm thankful that it happened relatively early. I cannot imagine how hard it must be for women to lose their babies later in the pregnancy.

I have an appointment with my doctor today. I don't know if she'll recommend testing after just two miscarriages, but she might. I'm a member of a miscarriage community online, so I'm finding good support there, too.

I wish you all happy, healthy pregnancy. And don't worry- I'll be back soon. As hard as it is, we'll be trying again as soon as my OBGYN gives us the go ahead.

*Big hugs to everyone*

Keep your head up and take care of yourself. Please know how much support you have here, and when it is the right time to try again, we''ll all be right there alongside you sending lots of positive vibes!

Incidentally, DH''s cousins went through 2 miscarriages last year, but just announced that they are into the 2nd trimester and expecting their first baby this Christmas! Just to lend you a bit of hope while you''re going through such a dark time.

Hi Gemma12. Just wanted to respond to your post above. I have postpartum anxiety, and with the help of medication and counselling, I am coming out of a very difficult time.

I know your intention was nothing but caring in this post, but comments like "not the depressive type" and offending people is a bit offensive. I am not really the "depressive type" - positive, upbeat, always smiling. But that makes it even harder, in a weird way. And it is not offensive and there should not be a stigma - just like if you noted that someone should see a doc because their leg is broken, someone should see help if they are not mentally feeling well.

Sorry, I just wanted to clarify a couple things on this issue.

Hi all,

Just checking in to say "Hello!". Nothing too exciting to report here. I have a nasty rash all over my abdomen. Turns out it''s pityriasis rosa, which is completely annoying and hideous but otherwise nothing. Whew.

And since I was worried I called my OB and went in so they could see and diagnose the rash instead of my GP since it was only on my abdomen. Got to hear the heartbeat/s (we''re not sure if we heard the same one twice or both of them because they were/probably are the same pace) again with the doppler! So that was very exciting for me and my doc was very excited because we didn''t expect to hear them on doppler so early (I was only 10 weeks), but we did so that''s very reassuring.

Hope y''all are doing well out there in PSer baby land...

Burk, Kaleigh, Neatfreak, Tacori, Ella, Snlee, Sk8rjen, Gemma -- thank you for the well wishes and support. I have been a bit depressed since finding out about the previa, but I’m trying not to dwell on the risks. Up to 20 weeks, I was feeling great and was happy with how smooth everything was going. I think I might have jinxed myself. My OB suggested taking a short vacation in California if we can’t go to France, so I’m doing a little research on that now. On course if I had known what would happen, we would have taken a trip in May when I felt more comfortable and mobile.

I have had a little bit of foot swelling/shoe tightness over the past couple of months, but all of a sudden it is bad. We hosted a dinner party on Saturday, so I was cooking a lot on Friday and Saturday, straightening the house, etc. By the time our guests left, I wanted to cry my feet hurt so badly. I had a lot of pain in my feet and calves last night after work too. Today, I gave up any pretense at the corporate suit dress code and came into work in a knit dress, no stockings, and Clarks padded walking sandals. These sandals are so much better than my dress shoes, but my legs and feet still hurt. Any recommendations on how to deal with the pain and swelling? I’m not even sure what causes it. I thought the swelling occurred in late pregnancy from carrying around extra weight, but I am only a few pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight.

Ok, I feel like such whiner now.

Lili, sounds like Jade is gaining well. We need new pictures.

Jas12, I hope your trip with Co went well and you had fun with your sister.

LitChick, that is one cute St. Bernard you have there, LOL.
2.gif

LIA, hope your big u/s went well and you are having a wonderful B-day/anniversary/graduation trip.

Tacori & Ella, no magic cream to prevent stretchmarks, huh? Drat, I was afraid of that. I have marks on my hips from earlier growth spurts, so I am sure I will end up with a nice set on my stomach too. I guess there is no harm in slathering on nice moisturizer, though. I’ll have to try the Mamma Mio – I saw it a few weeks ago, but wasn’t sure if it was worth the price.

Snlee, I’ll have to try the pillow behind the back trick. Sleeping is getting so uncomfortable with all the random aches and pains.

SBDE, we decided not to so anything for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day this year.

TGal, I don’t think anyone else should comment on your schedule if it works for you and TTot. The two of you getting as much rest as possible is what is important.

Tacori, the new shots of Tessa are so cute. 1 and 3 are my favorites, although I really like 4 too.

Burk, hope you enjoyed volleyball camp. I imagine it is nice to get away for a few days, but probably also a little weird to be away from her. BTW, I really like that Red Envelope gallery frame set. I think it might look good in our hallway.

Sk8rjen, my next u/s is July 7th, 8 days before we would leave on the trip. With the trip insurance we purchased, we get back 80% whether we cancel now or at the last minute, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for northward placental movement. Turquoise is one of my favorite colors – I think it is a great color for a nursery.

Ella, congrats on the first tooth.

36.gif
Love the t-shirts.

Diva, I can sympathize with you on the heat and swelling. Yes, sleeping with a growing watermelon is not easy!

What do baby movements feel like? I wonder if I have just been missing them. Last night in bed, I was having strange, slightly painful twinges in my lower abdomen. I wasn''t sure if it was her moving, or cramps or stretching.

Kay, baby movements are not painful until the last few weeks when baby is nice and strong. It felt like popping popcorn/gas bubbles for me. Then moved to light tapping. I felt my first *for sure* movement at 20 weeks. Your swelling can have a lot to do with the heat too (if it is anywhere as hot as it is hear). My foot size went up so flip flops were comfortable (but not really work appropriate)

LC, your comment to Gemma really bothered me. I was going to ignore it but just can't. Gemma has shown to be nothing but supportive and kind. I am sorry she offended you but I think your response was harsh.

NF, sorry about your rash! Yay for hearing the heartbeats!!!
