Any PSers from these areas care to do a GTG?? I know jstar suggested it in another thread, but I forgot

.
We could maybe do the KOP mall. Any other suggestions are much welcomed, though!

Maybe some PSers from NYC may want to come down for the day. The more the merrier!

I''d be game!

Yeah! Hmm, maybe my lotus ring will be here by the time we meet up!

Oh! I''ll come! The mall is boring, how about the jewelery district instead?

Hehe...it''s close to China town''s yummy yummy food.

I''m out of town August 1 - 13ish though (wedding and honeymoon).

While meeting up in Center City would be a LOT more convenient for me (I live there and don''t have a car), I''m not sure if everyone would be comfortable bringing their jewelry there to show everyone. I thought KOP might be a safer place to show off the bling. Personally, I could go either way.

will you treat me to a Dim Sum lunch?

Jstarfireb, I''m also in CC but I have a car -- so if the GTG happens sometime when I can go, maybe we could meet up beforehand and carpool. I''m out of town August 1-23 and have a wedding to attend the following Saturday, though, so it will be tricky for me!

I''m not here August 29-September 13 but I''m up for it wherever.

Thanks Octavia! Might be difficult to arrange a ride given that there are no PMs on the forum, but I'll keep that in mind. Also, I know MakingTheGrade is also car-deprived and might also appreciate a ride...right?

Hey MTG, by the way, did you have your second fitting with Kathy yet?

If you all don't mind meeting relatively soon, I would suggest the weekend after this one, 7/18-7/19. I'm free at that time and could do Saturday or Sunday, but I won't be available for quite a while after that. Actually, I just checked my schedule, and aside from the 2 weeks of vacation I have in August (which I'll be spending with my long-distance husband), I don't have a single free weekend until mid-October! Ugh! Anyway, would that be an OK date?

I''m cool with wherever, and that weekend is good for me. I was worried about bringing jewelry into CC too. Either day. Is it good for everyone else?

Of course, DF has to try to get in on it as well

I''m amazed and befuddled that people are really worried about bringing jewelry to Center City.

North Philly? Sure. West Philly? Yeah, probably a bad idea.

But Center City is pretty safe, especially if you don''t plan on walking around solo at 3 AM down the side streets. There are some fugly parts of it (Market East, for one), but unless you''re sleepwalking, it''s in no way dangerous.

Besides, there is no good food to be had anywhere in KOP mall.

Liane, I agree, being a city gal myself, but I was just thinking some people might feel more comfortable avoiding the city. If that''s not true, then by all means, let''s meet up in CC. Like I said, it''s much easier for me!

Want to meet at a restaurant? What kind of food are you all interested in? There''s always Marathon Grill. Not the greatest food in town, but it passes muster for me, and it''s not terribly expensive with a decent variety. There are a few of them in CC too...I think there''s one around 16th and Sansom, which would be close to Rittenhouse if people want to walk around the square later. My Philly peeps can weigh in on whether that''s a good idea or not (I tend to think all restaurants are good, so I''m not good at choosing one

).

If you wanted to do Asian food, my favorite place in Chinatown is a Malaysian/Thai place called Penang. Might be too spicy for some folks though.

Next weekend would be great for me! Location-wise, CC would be most convenient for me, but KOP is also fine -- or we could try for someplace in between, close to a train line. I think it depend on how many people we''ll be, and what everyone wants to do (eat, shop, etc). I love Penang. Marathon is serviceable, but I haven''t been thrilled with the last couple meals I''ve had there -- my favorite alternatives in the same price range would be either Devil''s Alley (19th and Chestnut) or the newer restaurant owned by the same person called Smokin'' Betty''s (11th and Sanson). There are so many places to choose from, though! At KOP, my preferred restaurant is Rock Bottom...though I''m down for whatever. Keep the ideas rolling!

Love Devil''s Alley, but it''s a bit loud...

The new place at 11th might be a good option, since it''s only a few blocks from Jeweler''s Row, and we could all walk around and ogle the bling after lunch or something.

I think Saturday is better than Sunday for me (have some friends coming into town and wanted to hang with them Sunday). We could meet around noon on Saturday at whatever restaurant we decide on...how''s that?

Center City or King of Prussia would be perfect for me. Any day or time is OK for me. There hasn''t been a Philly get-together in a long time.

I''m cool with CC; I was thinking along the lines of jstar. Saturday works great for me; better than Sunday since FI works all day Saturday. The Thai place sounds amazing!! I LOVE Thai! I''m more familiar with south Jersey restaurants, so if you know of awesome CC restaurants, I''m game for any kind of food.

We should pick a restaurant that has good lighting for diamond-gazing.

Oh bummer I''ll be at the beach weekend after next. I''ll have to catch the next one!

We all seem to like Penang, though at 10th and just above Arch, it''s a tad farther from Jeweler''s Row than the new restaurant on 11th and Sansom. It''s also pretty close to Reading Terminal, Market East, and the Greyhound station, which are slightly sketchier areas. Not North Philly or West Philly sketchy, but people may not be as comfortable there as, say, Rittenhouse. I don''t remember too much about the lighting, other than that it''s pretty dim/diffuse, kinda warehouse-style lighting, I think...should be fine.

Penang sounds good to me -- just wanted to mention, though, in case anyone is a vegetarian, that there isn''t much veggie stuff on the menu. I never have a problem because I eat shrimp, but strict vegetarians would probably find the menu difficult. If nobody objects, though, I''m more than happy to go there (haven''t been in way too long!).

Mmmmmm...I can taste the Roti Canai already!

Shall we do Saturday 7/18 at noon at Penang then? Any objections to that...place, time, whatever? Speak now or forever hold your peace!

Looks like the following people are possibly able to come based on the responses:

MakingTheGrade
Octavia
Clairitek
Liane

DF - are you a Philadelphian, or were you just toying with us?

Any others? If you''re on the list, care to confirm or deny?

Stephbolt, sorry you can''t make it! We''ll just have to do another GTG later.

Works wonderfully for me!!! Thanks jstar for taking the reins on this. I was feeling under the weather since last night, and spent all day in bed. I usually fuel my PS addiction like 16 times during the day, and this is my 2nd visit of the day. I'm glad something is coordinated!

Sounds great jstar! I''ve heard great things about penang.

Sorry I''ve been Mia, i''m currently at my future in laws, and they don''t have wireless so i''m browsing on my crackberry.

And I already got by dress back from Kathy! She was just lovely.

My jewelery collection is quite small, but hopefully quirky enough to still be of interest! It''ll be fun to socialize regardless!

I want a crackberry! Actually, I want an iphone. Anyway, we need to see dress pics!!! Make a BWW thread!

The unfortunate thing is that my lotus probably won''t be ready by the time we meet up. Sally said 3-4 weeks, and I only bought it a week ago, plus we have to account for shipping. Oh well! I already went through my collection and picked out the most PS-worthy pieces.

I'm excited to see your collection, jstar. I just got an Iphone, and it's awesome!! Mine is pretty small, too, MTG, but we'll still have a blast. Clairitek should bring her wedding proofs if she has them yet

I saw this thread yesterday and am SO bummed because that''s my weekend to work
39.gif
. Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon -- all 12 hour night shifts -- it is gonna be hell

If you guys do dinner Saturday, in Chinatown or thereabouts, I *may* be able to make it - my shift doesn''t start till 7pm.

Marathon is super close to where I work.... think across the street! haha.
