to those of you who used calla lilies in your bouquet - how did they hold up?
i think i want a bouquet of JUST white calla lilies for my wedding in july, but i noticed that when i buy them from the store here, they turn brown rather quickly on the ends. maybe it is because they are not really "in season" here now? or maybe i am just not a good flower mom? i''m not sure...but i was wondering if anyone had any issues with them in their bouquets.

thanks!

Mine held up beautifully but they were pink not white so I don't know that it would be as noticeable if they browned.

I don''t know anything about callas except that I LOVE THEM!

me too. I love the purple ones. They''re so beautiful!

I''m doing an all-white-callas wedding. The bouquet and bout will be mini callas, and the centerpieces standard callas.

What I understand is that the supplier ships callas closed (as in, the flowers haven''t yet bloomed, they''re closed buds). They get to the florist a day or two before the wedding so that they may open, and subsequently be arranged. They''re hardy from what I was told. A couple of things: the very "tip" of the bloom, where it curls, may brown slightly. The brown part should be tiny enough (think of a sliver of your pinky-nail) to be nipped off without any damage or alteration to the look of the flower.

The only real problem with the white or cream callas is if a florist arranges the blooms too soon before your wedding and leaves them in a refrigerated environment for too long (no oxygen = more tip browning).

But, as far as being damaged by actual weather conditions? I haven''t seen it happen, personally, and I live in Miami where the summer heat is pretty oppressive. Callas hold up as long as they''re treated properly upon receipt from the grower, no worries.

We had white Calla Lilies and they held up beautifully. They didn''t brown at all during the wedding, and we actually sent most of the centerpieces home with dear friends who were hosting open houses to try to sell their condo, and they told us that the flowers lasted for over a week AFTER the wedding.

AND, we ordered all of our flowers from Proflowers.com, so they were shipped to us, as well.

The Callas were very sturdy. I''ve seen many a brown, wrinkly rose at weddings, but never a brown Calla.
