Buying my first diamond! Thoughts on these two diamonds?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a diamond for an engagement ring. I have been researching stones and locked down two nice stones that I really liked. I'm looking for something in the .5-.6 range up to about $1400 for a solitaire setting.

Any thoughts on the below? Diamond 1 is a bit bigger in diameter (.15), has better clarity but it looks a little brown. Also stretches my budget... Diamond 2 is smaller and the color is yellow (better for white gold?).

Do they appear to be of good quality and price for what they are? Which one would you pick? As a beginner, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, please feel free to suggest diamonds if you have any favorites!

Diamond 1 (.56 Carat):
Diamond 2 (.50 Carat):

Not a huge fan of those 3 stones. Are you married to using BN?

Only asking because this seems like a winner....

0.52ct H VS1, $1,298 wire

This is an AGS000 certified stone. Great angles w/ Ideal 0 cut. Color is better so that should be a relief. I'd put this stone on hold ASAP, but think it's head & shoulders better than the other 3 you posted an a great price for what you are getting.

Once you have on hold, ask them for images, video and an ASET (or idealscope) image.

Hi! Thank you for your suggestion! I am not married to BN . This stone is better in every way than the ones I posted... thank you for that. I'll place it on hold asap!

Just wondering if you posted a different one than what you intended to? I see the price is $1,319 wire. Also, do you think this is what you would go with taking my budget into account?

Thanks!

James Allen has the following GIA XXX stone that meets your carat and budget criteria. It also scores 1.3 for HCA and appears to be well within the AGS ideal territory even if accounting for GIA averaging. However, it appears to have a dark inclusion in the table. If interested, I’d recommend asking for Ideal and ASET scope images and confirmation that it’s eye-clean.

I originally found the stone using the PS diamond search engine. The original link had references to PS, but when posting I removed them in an attempt to make the link (and post) more clean. Apparently, the referral site is needed for the additional discount.

Try the full link below and you should see the $1,298 price. :cool2:

FYI, this stone is likely part of "virtual inventory" and consequently MAY be available at more virtual inventory retailers such as BN, JA, Adiamor, Taylor & Hunt, etc. If so, this may work to your advantage as you can focus on a setting and then ask that vendor to price match (or beat) the lowest price you found. Obviously, this only works if you have more than one vendor offering the same identical stone.

Thank you for the link! I placed the diamond on hold and requested the images, they said it would take ~24 hours. Would you mind if I get back to you when I get the information? Would love your help in deciding if it's a good buy or pass.

Thank you for your suggestion! I would love to stay in the I color range since my SO is a little bit sensitive to color. The inclusion you mentioned would also drive me crazy haha! Thanks a ton though!

You're welcome! Glad to do it.

And yes. Once you get the data post back here or start a new thread. If you put the @ symbol in front of my username it tags me and I get a message indicating so. ;)2

FYI many others can and will likely weigh in as well. Fingers crossed but I'd really be surprised if this wasn't a great stone.

Hi @sledge! I was able to get a picture but they told me that a refundable deposit is needed for them to order the diamond and take the video and ASET since the vendor does not have the tools needed. They mentioned the following: "Our gemologist has confirmed that the diamond is beautiful and eyeclean with a clear white face up and excellent luster."

Based on the picture and specs, do you think that I should proceed with the deposit and wait for the video and ASET? It seems like a great value for the money but wanted to be sure.

Thanks!

How much is the deposit?

But yes, I would go ahead and move forward. I think for your price point, you will be hard pressed to find such a quality stone. If the video and ASET's come back unfavorable, just be prepared to request the refund and/or return the diamond.

Thanks @sledge! I had to pay the value of the diamond, but we arranged that the diamond would not be shipped until I looked at and approved the video and ASET!

I will report back with more details once I receive the video and ASET (~1-2 days) so that we can take a look. Thanks a lot for your help again!

Hi Ramon5a

Speaking in general terms, the strictest AGS Report is the Platinum Report with light performance map (ASET imprint). It’s a bit irregular for producers to request the lesser DQD format without any ASET information. It is very reasonable that you asked the seller for an ASET image as in this instance the DQD report did not provide one.

I hope this is helpful
