I've been reading here for a while and gleaning information, so much knowledge! So using what I learned here about diamonds, I recently purchased a diamond purely by the numbers. I am not in the USA and could not see the stones in real life so had to hope the diamond measurements and the HCA calculator would be enough to pick a great diamond. I didn't have access to any idealscope or other pictures, all I had was the GIA report. I chose a VS1 so I didn't have to worry about inclusions and where they might be situated.

So the ring arrived today, and the diamond is just spectacular. So much fire and sparkle, it is just beautiful, and easily the prettiest diamond I have ever seen. So if it helps anyone else, these are the details of what I bought:

.50 carat J VS1

56% table
61.3% depth
34 crown angle
40.8 pavilion angle
50 star length
75 lower half
Medium to slightly thick girdle
Medium blue fluorescence
Excellent cut
Excellent symmetry
Very good polish
HCA 1.0

Congrats! You picked some "safe numbers" and a good clarity. I'm so glad it worked out for you!
