So, I was in Bulgari yesterday, and I tried on a fabulous pear shaped ering with tapered baguettes.

Has anyone else seen this ring there?

The center stone is only held in by 4 prongs -- none of which cover the point of the stone! The point is just open and unprotected. I questioned the SA about it, and she assured me that it was "perfectly safe" b/c the center stone is mounted very low.

Really? I would be terrified that I''d break the point off!

I wonder if your insurance company would even let you insure it with the point exposed....

A 4-claw-style for a pear is possible - see attached example which we made for a client that insisted on having the tip "naked" even though we advised her against this as an unprotected tip is more likely to chip and also it is sharp. When she came back for her annual service, her tip did have a chip in it though we were ble to repolish it without any significant loss in weight to the diamond.

That looks like a weapon. I have a pear and I could not imagine leaving the point unprotected!

I actually PREFER the look WITH the prong on the tip!

Not a fan of theirs. Sorry.

That''s scary that they would leave the tip unprotected like that.
