Building Diamond Studded Earrings

Every time I look at custom earrings it looks like they like to select the pair. I was wondering if I can buy the diamonds from two different vendors and have someone local make the earrings. Besides having the same size so they look the same cosmetically, is there any other concerns I have to be aware of or can they make the earrings with essentially any diamond.

I found 2 diamonds at James Allen, 1 was a G, the other an H, similar measurements ie size/spread, tables, and angles. Received them and they looked so similar. They are off now being set. Should have them by the end of this week! Although I found both at James Allen, I would not have hesitated buying from different vendors. I think the key is just finding similar. Thank you for hitting us with your earring design query. It is fantastic that your looking to get them specially made.

In answer to your question, If you supply your own stones to a Jeweller they should be able to create your perfect pair of earrings.
However if you want the earrings to be identical then it is best that the measurements and quality of the diamonds are pretty much like for like. Please note stone measurements are key here to make sure both earrings marry up perfectly once they have been set.

If you can see your two stone choices close together then that would be ideal. In cases a slight grading difference between the stones on the certification doesn't necessarily mean that they still wouldn't look identicle. For example a G and H in colour or VS-SI in clarity where the differences could be negligible.

Was there a benefit of using two different vendors? Perhaps if you buy the two from one place you would get a slightly more competitive deal whilst getting the advantage of seeing both diamonds side by side.

I would also have an idea of the design in which you are looking for so the jeweller can bring your ideas to life. It would be perfect that the earrings are custom made around the stones that you find instead of being fit into a premade mount. This would make them even more special.

Thanks for the reply. The vendors wouldn't give a discount for multiple diamonds so it was cheaper to buy from two different vendors.

What size of stone/budget are you looking at? Many of the vendors sell pairs and will do the settings, much easier than trying to match stones from different vendors and involving a third party, imho.
