I had my ring for less than two weeks when I noticed that one of the stones in the pave on my ring looked very visibly brown. I don''t even wear it all the time and definitely take it off when it''s going to be mucked up by soap or lotion. Has anyone else encounterd this?

It''s the Endless Love setting, without the halo. I''ve tried gentle brushing in the front and back with a soft brush, soaking it in hot water with dish soap, soaking it in the jewelry cleaner that came with it, but no luck. It''s still as brown as ever.

I called the vendor, who said he''s seen it happen before and he said I''d have to bring it in and Ritani would replace the stone. He said not even an ultrasonic bath would get it out. Since I''m in a different country, that''s not the best option!

Anyone know of anything else that might work? I can''t believe that I''d have to send it back after having it less than two weeks!

Thanks, everyone.

Have a jeweler put it in an acid bath, that should take care of it.

aw sabrina, i''m sorry. that''s always a bummer when it happens to a new ring. Kaleigh had the same thing happen to her new Quest ring when she got it and they put in in a acid bath and it cleared it right up. I''d try to find someone local to give it a shot first b/f shipping back to Ritani. If that doesn''t work though, i know Ritani will take care of it for you.

Thanks, Ladies! I looked up what an acid bath was. Will it harm the ring if it''s left in too long? It looks like a mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids. I remember working with the stuff and it wasn''t that pleasant. I don''t suppose hot vinegar would do the trick would it? Would that be gentler?

Thanks for the sympathy, MrsS. I was a little disheartened as I just love my new ring. I have no idea what it was that did it either. I''m sure it wasn''t there when I got it!

I tried a local jeweler last night and they just did an outward scrub with a rather hard looking brush. I was fully expecting to see visible scratches afterwards! I think a new ring with no scratches is always nervewracking...until the first ding gets put in!

i wouldn't try doing the acid bath yourself. if you can't find a jeweler that knows what it is and can do it, then although it would be very hard i'd send it back to Ritani. I just wouldn't want to chance someone/something messing up that gorgeous setting.

When this happend to my pave, I went to WF and was told it was because one of my little diamonds was cracked

I''ve never heard of an acid bath before...Is that something that jewelers offer?

I''ve never heard of an acid bath either, which was why I had to look it up. I haven''t had much luck with jewelers in my area though so I''d be worried about the setting being ruined. Plus, it''s my dream ring!

There is an estate jeweller a little ways away and they deal with some very large, pretty pieces. They may have something like that.

Thank you.
