BROOCHES & Pins. Why Don't We Wear Them?

Guess I need to repost this beauty here. It's at Platt Boutique in LA. I didn't ask the price, but Larry said that the large baguettes are 2.5 CT each!!

Stunning. Broochilicious.

I did inquire. Larry Platt said that the brooch is $60K. :-o He said he's sending it to another jeweler.

My newest brooch. Arrived Saturday in the mail. I will take a better photo but for now here it is as I wrote it cycling yesterday.

GAH!!!

54F60AB6-0C8B-4B4F-A346-9D46613D7558.jpeg This is something that I shall eventually make. I have a drilling machine, and now, enough of golden pearls. I shall use this brooch as a clasp. (Now I know how to make knots. Or rather, surgical knots that my dad once taught me how to tie, work the best).

I love brooches. I have a black pearl and diamond pin, it was designed as some sort of fancy ballon, to me it looks like sperm. I wear it on the lapel of one my lab coats. When I have to talk with patients I wear my lab coat closed over my scrubs.

Both pieces are gorgeous, and terrific finds too!!!

Compared to the first one you definitely paid way too much for the second. :lol-2:

Oh I love them!!!!! I need to find a pawn shop, lol.

Now I plan to use one of my round stones as the centerpiece for one diamond brooch...

I know Catmom will maybe be a tad destroyed by what I'm about to post but I feel I'm legitimately answering the age old question of why alot of people don't find brooches easy to wear.

This is the matching brooch to a pair of fabulous Victorian earrings I own and purchased through my boss. I've always had this gorgeous brooch in my sights and on my want list, but.. It really doesn't sit particularly well on the tops and tshirts that are my staple wardrobe. It's a wee bit on the heavy side for comfortability, it sadly droops :cry2:
So... My boss and I have decided to convert it to a necklace for wearability. It will be in his discretion to possibly sell it, but I already told him I'm starting furious saving. His response was "I would expect nothing less from you, go for it!"
The chain we chose is slightly heavier weight than the twist chain already featured, which suited it nicely.
Thoughts? I know it's possibly not to everyone's taste, but I have worked for my boss for 3 1/2 years and my job is changing up alot next month so I think I should just commit to having a stunning Victorian set and be done!

:eek2: You're killing me Smalls!! LOL, I understand. I have a couple that are just so big and heavy that I don't wear them. I like when they are convertible. The butterfly I just got is pretty heavy and won't wear well on light summery fabrics but it will on heavier fall/winter fabrics. It converts into a pendant though, so I can still wear it in the Spring/Summer. Could you do something like that or is it just too much?

What a beautiful brooch! But I know that heavy ones droop............
This brooch is best pinned on a heavier fabric, like the lapel of a jacket or dressy coat.
I have had luck with cutting a circle from heavy card stock about the same size as the brooch, and putting that behind the fabric of my shirt. Then piercing the pin through the fabric and card stock together. This supports a heavier brooch a bit better.

I’ve been thinking of doing something like this for heavier brooches. If anyone knows of a good place to buy ribbon bracelets please share.

The kinds of brooches I feel more comfortable wearing are smaller and more butterfly /dragonfly or bees, I like bee brooches!
When I first started working for my boss there was the sweetest little butterfly with little solid opal wings! It was so dainty, perfect and light and as soon as it came in it got sold!

I myself live vicariously through Catmoms brilliant taste in butterfly and dragonfly brooches. This one would be no exception, good call @prs

The pin stem is removable and there’s a bale. This is the first time I’ve seen a combination of pearls and diamonds like this. These are usually all diamonds, all pearls, or pearls with tiny rose cut accents.
