Britney Spears files for divorce!

Not that should come as a surprise but... Britney Spears has filed for divorce! No actual report as of yet but I''m assuming there will be soon. I was surprised about Reese and Ryan but not Britney and Kevin.

Here is a report from TMZ.com:

"TMZ obtained the legal papers, filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences." In her petition, Spears asks for both legal and physical custody of the couple''s two children, one-year old Sean Preston and two-month old Jayden James, with Federline getting reasonable visitation rights.

As for money, sources tell TMZ the couple, who married in Sept. 2004, has an iron-clad prenup. Not surprisingly, Spears is waiving her right to spousal support. She''s also asking the judge to make each party pay their own attorney''s fees.

Spears gives the date of separation as yesterday, the same day she flaunted her incredible revamped physique during a surprise appearance on David Letterman''s show. Sources tell TMZ there was no single reason for Britney pulling the plug, rather, it was "a string of events."

Spears has hired powerhouse celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has repped a number of celebs, including Angelina Jolie, Nick Lachey and Kiefer Sutherland. We''re told Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe asked Wasser to rep both of them in their split, but Wasser declined for personal reasons."


Hmmm, anyone else surprised maybe by the timing but not the actual fact?

I still feel so very sad for those boys. She is so chaotic and they just get dragged along for the ride. while having divorced parents may not be the ideal situation I really think it will be the best for these kids.

Even if Britney is a little crazy she isn''t nearly as bad as KFed and maybe if she manages to pull her life out of the white.trash.crazy.as.hell gutter it has been in for the last couple of years she may even turn out to be a good mom!

~~I''m so relieved to hear this!!!! Not since Whitney have I been glad for news like this. I really hope she can get herself back together, and make a huge comeback!!! However, I do hope that things will work out for her and her two children.

I dunno, I think she''s an idiot who made really stupid choices that got her to where she is. This might be the wisest thing she''s done yet, but I''m holding reservation on the idea that her life will be better.... who knows what other stupid choices she could possibly make... maybe next week we''ll find her hooked up with charlie sheen or something!

We ate a late lunch in a sandwich shop in Hollywood about 4 years ago and she, her mom, and her sister came in, ordered food and sat near us. They really looked so normal there. And I think of all that has happened since then.

I feel really bad for her and for her sons...I think that she really thought this would work, and that she was the only one who didnt see it wouldnt. I've always been a closet Brit fan (music not really the way she talks or interviews) and as much as I thought this is what would end up happening, it's still so sad. I really thought he'd try to keep her longer though, it was obvious that he was using her so I thought he'd try to ride it out as long as possible.

he's an a$$ though, by the way. He's been neglecting his family saying that that's what he has to do as an "artist." Artist my butt, I could sing better than him, and I've been known to clear a room.

Anyways, I feel bad for her and the boys and I do hope that they are ok after this.

I feel badly for her, in a way. I don''t think her parents trained her very well for life -- I think they just groomed her for being in entertainment. I have often wondered if they have exploited her success, and left her ripe for others (men) to do the same. I have felt badly for the fact that she has gotten caught on tape making parenting mistakes and having mishaps -- I would be mortified if anyone caught on tape my parenting goofs (which I think if most parents were honest, we''ve all had some goofs). Her life is so public, and I don''t think most people''s lives would stand up to that kind of scrutiny. Especially if there were profit in putting a nasty spin on it.

I don''t like K-Fed either -- he reminds me of a pimp for some reason, but at least he did seem to be working and making an effort to make some money. Hmmm, I''m sure he could see the writing on the wall.

I hope they can keep this from becoming a media circus. I feel for the kids, but it does seem to me that Britney wants to be a good mom.

On the other hand, sometimes I think she''s totally clueless and always will be....hopefully she''s grown up a lot.

Couldn't agree more. It wasn't a case of IF but WHEN. Monnie - it might NOT be a case of bye bye KFed, as you might be seeing a lot more of him in the future as he milks out his divorce publicity and uses this to boost his 'career..'

I feel sorry for their children.
