Bride to be in LOVE with a Helzberg Diamond Masterpiece

Hi everybody, I was in the mall with my lady and popped into Helzberg just for fun. She has no expectations of when I will propose. We know it will happen at some point, and I have been thinking about maybe Christmas. She would be completely surprised if I did it this year, because she is thinking it will happen sometime next year. Well, anyway, enough about that. She absolutely fell in love with a ring at Helzberg. She wouldn't take it off, lol. She is not an expensive taste kind of girl, has never even owned any diamonds at all. I'm in a great position where I now know exactly what she wants, but I wanted to do some research and make sure this is the best option for us.

Not sure if I can post links here, so here is the info.........

Helzberg Diamond Masterpiece 3/4ct TW Engagement Ring
18kt White Gold 3/4ct TW Princess Cut & Round Diamond Engagement Ring, AGS Graded
Helzberg Diamond Masterpiece®, Mondrian Diamond®

This list price was $5000, but without even asking for a discount she said she can do it for $4500 and 18 month zero percent interest.

She loves everything about it, especially the band and setting.

1. I have seen people say they are overpriced, so is it possible to get this same exact ring somewhere else for cheaper?

2. Is the quality of the diamond considered high?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to give her exactly what she wants because she is an amazing woman. She doesn't care about having a huge diamond or status or any of that stuff. She just thinks it's beautiful, and to be honest, it looked amazing on her finger.

At Helzberg Diamonds, we differentiate ourselves by the emphasis placed on the cut, polish, and symmetry of our finished diamonds. With that in mind, it was fitting that we feature a diamond in our assortment whose precision cut was truly unique - The Helzberg Diamond Masterpiece®

The term "masterpiece" denotes an extraordinary work of art by a master painter, sculptor, or craftsman and is an appropriate term for our premier diamond. It takes experienced master diamond cutters years before they are able to achieve the level of skill required to cut a Helzberg Diamonds Masterpiece, resulting in less than one half of one percent of the world's diamonds that meet our stringent criteria.

Every Helzberg Diamond Masterpiece showcases an exquisite "hearts and arrows" pattern, achieved by precisely aligning every cut and optimally proportioning every facet. Each must achieve the highest possible grade for polish and symmetry - nothing less than "excellent"- making the Helzberg Diamond Masterpiece an elegant tribute to devotion and love and a fitting representation of the Helzberg Diamonds brand.

Painter Piet Mondrian stunned the world with bold blocks of color and a truly unconventional geometric playfulness. The square-cut Mondrian Diamond accomplishes much the same, enthralling any audience from the moment it's unveiled. Just as the artist arranged simple forms in complex beauty, the Mondrian Diamond reveals an effortless allure few diamonds can ever achieve.

The square modified brilliant design of the Mondrian features 65 facets, compared to the traditional round brilliant Degas with 58 facets.

Also, the zero percent is very important to me. I can't put up the cash right now.

My main concern is can this exact same ring be found elsewhere for a substantial difference in price?

How open to negotiation are stores like Helzberg? She dropped 10 percent off the price without me asking.

Do diamond stores like these participate in these crazy post Thanksgiving deals?

thanks again

you could call GOG i believe they have some kind of financing

Diamond: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8362/

setting: http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?products_id=9472&osCsid=jakgluk4in0isrpop45lcc4554

The setting is from ID but GOG also carries gabriel & co. so you could see if the could get this same setting

If GOG could get the same setting for the price that would bring your total carat weight to 1.02 for $2386

That is half the cost! Good find FG.

GOG has interest-free financing for 6 months and then I presume interest starts. Their princess of hearts stones are excellent, and they can also help you with a halo setting as they carry MANY different brands. All you'd have to do is show them a picture. Examples:

http://www.gabrielengaged.com/style/ER7277W44JJ

http://www.gabrielengaged.com/style/ER7493W44JJ

Please don't pay for Helzberg prices. I looked there a long time ago and found that their ideal cut rounds were at least 30% higher than the same stones I could buy at some of these vendors.

Awesome find FG! You could either save a bunch of money or buy a larger center stone for the same amount of $$...a great position to be in!

I'm going to thritto the wise women here:-) Good Old Gold has great prices, awesome customer service, gorgeous princess cut diamonds, and would either save you a ton of money or allow you to get an even bigger stone...Heltzberg is really overpriced, and not as good quality.

Amazing! I'm looking at this on my phone right now, can't wait to see it on the laptop.
Is that diamond comparable quality wise to the Helzberg? This is great news, thank you so
Much! She doesn't want a big center stone, and I'm already over stretching money wise anyway. If
it's this much cheaper, 18 month zero interest isn't as big a factor :)

The diamond should be better than the Heltzberg one (I would certainly prefer it!)

these look great, thanks

I believe Good Old Gold is closed on Monday so give them a call on Tuesday. You will definitely get a much better quality ring and stone going through them.

Good luck and be sure and come back and tell us what you find!

Will do. Anybody know what kind of turnaround I might expect from a place
like this? I'm still on the fence if I will be doing it this year, but if I do, I was thinking
about doing it Christmas Eve, possibly with our 4 year olds present. I have a son and she has
a daughter, two months apart, and the reason we met just over two years ago. We have been
a family ever since and I think it's time to make it official.

Assuming you choose a diamond from GOG which is in their inventory, I'm guessing the timeframe will depend on how long it takes them to get the setting in. Once that arrives, they have only to set the stone and ship the ring to you. I would certainly expect them to have it to you before Christmas. Once you speak to them on Tuesday, you will probably have all the info you need.

Your new family to be sounds lovely - much luck to you!

I think a Christmas Eve proposal would be wonderful! The holidays are a special and romantic time, so I do hope you decide that it is the right time! They can probably do it before Christmas as long as you choose a setting that is available. I am sure GOG would have more suggestions besides the ones I linked. But I'd definitely buy the setting from them because it will be far less complicated than any other option. They do carry very fine diamonds. The stone in my avatar picture is from them!

Question, is "Hearts and Arrows" the same as "Princess of Hearts"?

I did a ton of reading on the GOG website, very informative stuff. I will be calling them on Wed.

Well, I can tell you from personal experience, Jonathan at GOG is one fine person as well as having a passion for fine diamonds! It is a family owned jewelry store and has been around a long time!

Princess of Hearts is a cut-cornered square stone that does have hearts and arrows cut. But they also have cushions and rounds with hearts and arrows cut as well. It is just a precision cut that results in excellent light performance. They are top cut quality stones!

Good luck and let us know how things turn out!

Ok, I just got off the phone with Jonathon from GOG. He was great!! Very personable and he didn't even try to upsell me at all. He sent me links and they were the same ones that were posted above by others on here =)

He said he can get it 2-3 weeks and the price was pretty much half of the one at Helzberg!!!

He did not try to upsell me, but I asked him about getting a 3/4 CT just out of curiosity. he said he can get one, but it would be an SI instead of a VS2 and most likely bring the price up to around $4100, from $2741. It's still $900 less than the Helzberg (and bigger and better quality) but I think i'm going to stick with the $2741. I'm already stretching buying any ring at all given my current situation, so I figure why push it, right? He even said, since the diamond is such high quality that if I want in the future I can trade it in and not lose a dime if I wanted to upgrade to a bigger stone. My girl LOVED the Helzberg diamond and that was .5 CT, so I'm not worried about it. She really doesn't think i'm going to propose this Christmas, and if I do, she is going to flip out, the size of the ring won't even cross her mind.

My only concern is that, the setting still looks a little different from the Helzberg one. The diamonds in the halo pattern look smaler and have more of an intertwined look to them. the setting that was linked, the diamonds are a bit bigger and just in a straight line pattern. I want to see if there are other options out there.

Just to sum it up, this is the stone and setting.................

I still like the one from GOG best. Think how impressed she will be that you selected a stone just for her and had it mounted in a setting that you chose. She sounds like a lovely girl that will be pleased no matter what - but this stone will far outshine anything from Helzberg and at a lower cost as well.

That's a big win-win in my opinion!

2 things,

1. I would call and put the diamond on hold and GOG.
2. I think the setting is going to look gorgeous with that stone, It is the very similar in style, and the bigger stones in that setting is going to make that ring pop all the way around. I don't think she is going to complain about a bigger better quality ring, you can't go wrong in my opinion:)

TRUE =)

I told Jonathon that I would call him tomorrow. Want to sleep one night on it before making the decision.

I'm thinking of proposing with our children present, since they are what brought us together and they are as big a part of this as we are. What do you think?

It's going to be STUNNING!

You made the right move by going witih GOG. They did my e-ring and it turned out beautiful. Not only are you getting a great stone, but you are working with a highly reputable company.

Like others have said, this stone/setting from GOG will far outshine anything from Hezlberg.

Can't wait to see pics!

You can place the diamond on hold without buying it, which I would so someone else doesn't snatch it up, that happens a lot:)

I agree with farmer gal, please put your diamond on hold! Also, I like the GOG setting much better than the Helzberg one. The diamonds on the Helzberg one look tiny.

I think what you're seeing on the Helzberg setting is more metal showing around the diamonds, which is a sign of less than great metal/prong work to those who prefer that all they see is diamonds. I think the Gabriel & Co. setting is going to blow the Helzberg setting out the water; once you have the ring in hand, you can take it to Helzberg and compare.

I think proposing with the kids there would be very sweet, since in a way, you're asking if they want to become a family. :appl:

Jonathon said the exact same thing about the setting. He said it's an illusion setting or something.

and, yes, I did put it on hold =)
