Hi all!
I have a weird question…. Now I’m not rich by any means. I make ok and I’m a single mom. My son is 17 and has a job and is out of school. I live in an older apartment that some would say it’s old and not upgraded. I do drive a 20 year old Lexus SUV lol that I just keep maintained.

Is it crazy that I want to purchase a diamond tennis bracelet? I can just pay it off.
I feel guilty and materialistic
Am I nuts?

Have any of you ladies did this?

The nice thing about being a single adult is that you can do whatever you want with your money. That said, do you have long term financial goals and are you meeting them? For example, an emergency fund, retirement, kid’s college, etc. If the answer to that is no, well, the tennis bracelet isn’t the best idea. If the answer is yes, and this is just extra fun money, go for it! If you’ve got your house in order, spend your fun money however you want!

None of those descriptors in your post pertain to your net worth. That is what dictates how much you should spend on an impulse/vanity purchase. That and the price of the bracelet.

Tbh, we did not do things like this until we didn't need to ask others if it sounded crazy. Even now, there are a lot of things that I just collect screenshots of (!) because they are probably out of reach :mrgreen2:.

You will get a lot of different answers on this one.

If you have any debt (= typically a negative net worth), I would not do it in a million years. Sorry.

If after your budget analysis you think it wouldn’t be the right time..consider getting a Berricle cz bracelet. It may scratch your itch. You can also consider getting a moissanite bracelet in gold.

The one I’m looking at is just a 1 carat- plenty for me. It’s on sale from Blue Nile. 1,575,
But I can look at Moissanite too

I don’t recommend that you buy anything that makes you feel guilty. You won’t enjoy it.

Look at charles and covard, they have a LD bracelet 2.3 ct for 1100.

You’re not nuts..If you think it would make you happy to look at it every day..….I would get it…Sometimes we need to reward ourselves for a job well done. You’re a single mom, raised your son, have a good job. I would get it and cut back in other areas of your life! If you decide to get it..please post some photos on your wrist.

HI:

It would be nice to find one pre-loved.

cheers--Sharon

Blue Nile has sales a couple times a year. Can you save $50/week? If yes you would probably have most of it paid for by the next sale.

Same with James Allen- they seem to run a 25% off sale on tennis bracelets at least a few times a year

I agree with both sides. Yes you deserve a little fun you have raised a person! That is not easy! However, I would not get it if you can’t pay for it in full without debt. Save up for one and find a good sale. You’ll be more likely feel good about the purchase and really enjoy it instead of dreading the guilt from each bill that you get for it.

"guilty and materialistic"? You've been a PSer for a while. We'll help fix that.

Or "jump right in! The water's warm." Seriously though. You shouldn't feel guilty and materialistic. You've taken care of people and you've been responsible with your money. And you earned it and it's your right if you so wish. And if looking down at your wrist to see a line of sparkly diamonds will give you a lift throughout your day, by all means. Take care of yourself, physically, mentally and emotionally and don't judge yourself harshly. There is enough of that out there. Give yourself some time to get accustomed to the idea and if you feel right then go for it. Nobody here will judge. We will however celebrate with you and ask for lots of mod shots.

And, if you need help choosing one, here's a thread others have found helpful. ;)2

Thank you all!!
Just been rough lately. I will be making a decision soon!!
Pics will be shown most definitely

Spend your hard-earned money how you see fit. Some people don’t care about newer cars nor fancy/updated surroundings. It sounds like you have been very frugal and if you would rather spend on something sparkly you should do it. Honestly, sounds like you deserve to treat yourself.

Ok here is what I did lol.
I found a pair of diamond studs. I’ve always wanted that too, and I can always get the bracelet another time!

It may not seem big enough, but they’re 3/4 total weight. Hopefully, they will look pretty and be substantial on my ears. I’ve always liked the classy look of a simple diamond stud.

They should be in on Wednesday!

I will post pics then!
Sue

If you have to ask, you probably deep down know the answer.
If you are concerned that money is an issue, and only you know, then what about a nice pair of CZ earrings and no one will be the wiser.

I can’t wait to see them on your ears!

Well….
The 3/4 studs are too small lol
I am returning them- Blue Nile is good about a no hassle return policy. I should’ve went ahead and got the 2 carat tennis bracelet.

But will have to wait to this return goes through. Ugh! I also got to thinking… I wear James Avery- is that weird to wear an expensive diamond bracelet? And I wear an Apple Watch on my left. Rose gold case. I see a lot wear it with their watch. My questions are:
Will it scratch against my watch?
If I get a white gold will it look weird with my watch?
Or if I decide to wear it on right, I have my James Avery on it.

I hate when I’m indecisive!
And I am a little physical at my job. On computer, sometimes carrying stuff.
Advice or any wisdom PS’ers!

Sue-

You could try a low-cost CZ bracelet for a little while before you invest.

I bought a fashion jewelry bracelet that was a similar concept to the VCA 5-motif bracelets (chain with stone stations) and realized that it was something I wouldn't wear often enough and that I really wanted a cuff-style bracelet. Glad I only paid <$100 to figure our what works for me instead of investing. I rarely buy fashion jewelry anymore but this is a scenario where I think it makes sense.

I don't have any dependents except for a cat and a dog, with OH/SO/whatever.

I spend my hard-earned money as I see fit.

The only person who would try and take me down a guilt trip about how I spend my money is my mother, and she lives 8 time zones away for very good reasons! :roll2::lol-2:

Everyone's life priorities are different, no right or wrong, just different.

Therefore, OP, only you can decide what is right or wrong for yourself.

If the purchase would make you feel bad/guilty/whatever, then I would advise against it.

I am in the camp of no-guilt purchases, blings or otherwise, otherwise I shan't buy them.

DK :))

Sue-

Honestly the specs on the Blue Nile tennis bracelets are not great. Have you checked Costco? Their diamonds are similar color but higher clarity and generally tend to be well cut.

Are I SI2 ok? There’s a ring I like
It’s 1 carat AE54258A-8C00-4360-9290-FB52F2691525.png

What's the price? I know they do have a good return policy so if you don't like it you shouldn't have a problem
with a return.

Not sure about the SI2. Hopefully, someone has bought one and will get back to you!

1,300 and some change

I have a version of the Luna ring, but it is a 7 stone and is H/VS2. I love it and wear it often but it's different than the ring you posted.

Sounds like you are still figuring out what you want, which is fine! If you decide you definitely want to go for a full eternity ring, you may want to shop around at other sites (and consider resale/preloved) I think you might be able to find stones with better stats for a similar price.
