Hello,

I recently purchased a .82 H&A diamond from Brian Gavin for a surprise proposal.

I'm looking for a platinum solitaire setting, and think I have it narrowed down between Classic Truth and Elegance.

Given the quality of the diamond, I'd like something that shows it off the most - even from the sides, which BGD tells me is the Classic Truth. Although from the pics it looks to me like the Elegance head shows more of the diamond?

I know that the Elegance sets the diamond up higher than the Classic Truth, which sounds to me like a great presentation of this wonderful diamond, but I also know that the diamonds featured in the online pics are much larger than my .82. It's difficult to use the online pics as a reference......

I'm hoping to get some opinions from folks, and maybe even some that have seen both these settings first hand. Any more questions I can answer to assist just let me know.

Thank you!

If you want the center stone to be the highlight of the show, I'd go with the Elegance setting. I like how both the settings you mentioned taper down toward the center stone, which IMO makes the center stone appear larger too. Regarding the side view of the Classic Truth, I see what BGD means about how more of the stone will show but I think the side stones and the surrounding metal on that setting will detract from the center stone. (Full disclosure though, the setting on my prior ring was very similar to the Elegance setting so my opinion may be biased.... :loopy: ) Plus you can dress up the ring with an eternity wedding band if she ends up wanting more bling.

However, if your future fiancé has said she prefers side stones on the band, that should really be what you go for anyway.

Put up picks of the final ring incl on her finger too. Can't wait to see it! Congrats!

Thank you for your thoughts!!

FYI - there are no side stones on the Classic Truth...

Hm when I googled it, side stones were on it. I'll check again. Thanks!

My apologies! I googled it twice this morn and a side stone version kept popping up. Now that I see the correct one, they both seem the same except for the head/mount, yes? I agree as in my original comment that the Classic Truth shows more stone on the side. Plus the slight W design is really pretty and separates it from the traditional basket settings, the curve of it is sort of romantic looking too.
