I have sent a stone off to BGD for a possible recut. Here is what they sent me back. All the first images are pre recut, the last one is the estimated final

HCA on current shows 3, hca on theirs shows 1.3 i believe

The stone is a good re-cut candidate (slightly deep and top heavy) It appears that there will be a very minimal spread/carat weight loss. I guess it will be still 1.15~1.20c. Go for it.

1.15 they say. I have paid for the recut and we will see what happens in 4-5 weeks

Looking forward to seeing the final stone post recut!

Oh girl! That aset image! I'm so happy to hear you went for it. It's going to be amazing! I can't wait! And you're only estimated to lose .1mm. Awesome.

I am pretty excited to see what it turns out like. I was pretty impressed with the fact that it is basically going to be the same size... i dont think anyone could tell the difference with .1mm

I am also paying to have them send it to AGS.. so shipping>recut>shipping>grading> shhipping>BGD>shipping.. i've got about $1k into the recut/grading. The real question is will it come back looking good enough for me not to sell it. I am also curious to see if it is appraised higher or lower than previous.

Lol- I think you will need to allow yourself to see it in person before you make any plans on that score. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised in the way it looks after its haircut. I don't think you'll notice the .1 personally, it may in fact appear larger because the light return will be so much better.

I think you will be very pleased with the outcome of this stone!!

Exciting!! Can't wait to see the final result :)) I'm sure it'll be stunning!

looks like the cut is good, but really got hit on the color. Was told it was an E, it's really an I

Very nice! I think you will be pleased.

Colorwise, it is what it is. Who called it an E? Did it have papers before (GIA/AGS)?

Please post pics...I Love to see these make overs!

tyty, the stone had an EGL Israel report attached to it from memory. Hence the massive drop in colour (which a lot of us expected it to have).

With that much discrepancy, I'm thinking it was EGL Israel :blackeye: who gave the color grade of E.
I too love these recut stories!

If y'all are looking to see the computerised ASET for it, take a look at its grading report now:

SPECTACULAR! :love::cheeky::love::cheeky::love::cheeky::love::cheeky::love::cheeky::love::cheeky::love::cheeky::love::cheeky:

The specs on it are beautiful. Inclusion plot also is beautiful though I am wondering what that large black dot is on the pavilion side plot.

Yes, it was EGL Isreal. Learned my lesson there :/

The diamond came back a 0/0/0/0. unfortunately, there appears to be a cavity in the stone. How does this affect its look/value?

edit: that black dot appears to be a cavity. If it wasnt for that, I imagine it would be a nice stone.

The cavity because it's pavilion side, it might be hidden within the contrast of an arrow shaft when looking at it face up (looks like it is at the base of one of the pavilion mains).

Given how much more light is going to be returned to your eye after the recut, highly possible that you may not even be able to notice it amidst the sparkle.

Should be a beautiful diamond. 4 colour grades drop in colour and 2 in clarity. I suppose it's another blow against EGL certification, but at least you have a great diamond now. Will they let you certify as bgd signature?

Remember the cavity was there before AGS analysed it. If it didn't bother you then, it shouldn't bother you now

No, it will not get BGD signature since it does not meet the requirements.

Oh and I finally got the old paperwork. It actually was listed as a VS2/F, it only lost 1 clarity grade and 3 color grades. The cavity is the worst of it in my mind. That's probably the spot that noticed before.

Would love to see any pics of the recut that BGD take. The ASET on the grading report really does look spectacular.

BGD says they will have recut images by monday afternoon. i will post them.

anyone have an idea of the value of the stone at this point?

Love those proportions.... My guess the stone will sell for about $6K.

I've been watching for this CWV. It's going to be a beauty! Don't let the plot worry you. You need to see it first with the recut before you do anything, is my advice. You'd be surprised what good cutting can play down.

Here are the after images... kinda concerned... as opposed to playing down defects, the images would appear to show that it has brought them out. Of course, these pictures look like they were taken using a different imaging device. They say they will have shots with the setting shortly.

cokewithvanilla , I remember your earlier threads and I am really glad that you decided to do a recut with BGD! I think that your "new" stone will look amazing in person! Honestly, you are seeing the inclusions in the highly magnified images, but all I am seeing (and I am sure many other PSers) is the amazing new cut!!! Look at the edge to edge red on the ASET, and the perfect hearts and arrows! You are really thinking too much about the clarity, when in reality, you will most likely hardly notice the inclusions because of the all the sparkle and fire. Clarity-wise, it could have been way worse (and I don't consider an SI1 bad), imagine if it was and I1 or I2! Please enjoy your amazing stone before you decide to give up on it. You can make an awesome three stone ring, or put a halo around it, or anything else really to change it up a bit. But regardless of what you decide to do - awesome job on the recut! BGD did good once again!

Its coming back with an Eden setting, by the way.
