BGD 5 stone ordered & having second thoughts

I might be the most confused person or this site just makes me want everything!!!! Anyways, I recently ordered the BGD u-prong five stone with 5 X .30 stones in platinum. I know I will love this ring BUT I'm wondering if I'm just trying to make up for the fact that I don't love my e-ring reset I recently had done by ERD. My 1.28 RB stone was set into a cushion shaped halo with miligran on top and sides. I wore the ring for a few months before I noticed significant wear on the shank and on the halo. I brought thr ring back to ERD and they redid it to look like new; however, now I fear wearing the ring because I don't want the same thing to happen again. So basically my e-ring and matching band sit in my drawer and they barely ever touch my finger. I hate not having a ring to wear daily so I decided to purchase a five stone because I figured it would have good presence while still being durable. While I love this idea I'm wondering if it makes more sense to have my e-ring reset into something more durable that I can wear daily. For instance, the ring I'm eyeing is the BGD truth 3 stone. For approximately the same price as my five stone I could reset my e-ring and have it be something I can actually feel comfortable wearing.

I also own a shared prong eternity band in either 8 or 10 pointers (3mm wide) that I love and would like to still wear.

He are the stats of my center stone.
1.28
6.94 x 6.96 x 4.32
Color F
Clarity SI1
Cut Excellent
Fluorescence strong blue

If I went with the 3 stone ring I was looking at pairing my center with two .4 or .50.

My question is what would you do if you were me? Move forward with the five stone or cancel that project and do a reset. My husband might kill me!!!!!!!

I see your dilemma livewithease! I'm so sorry to hear you're afraid to wear your ering - I think I remember you mentioning the wear and tear in another thread. Are your really rough on your rings, and do you have a job where you think you are probably banging it a lot? I'm asking only because I have been wearing a Simon G setting with milgrain for over a year now and it doesn't show any signs of wear…BUT I don't wear it all day every day - I'm a caregiver 4 days a week for my mother so I don't wear it on those days, and I usually don't wear it at home, only when going out, such as dinner, running errands, etc. If I wore my ring at a regular 8 hour job every day, mine would probably show more wear too. I can see where you would want to wear and enjoy your ering more often.

Just thinking out loud here…maybe you could wear your ering on your down time, such as going out to eat, movies, shopping, etc. and wear your 5 stone to work and in situations where you think it could get knocked a bit more? A 5 stone with 30 point stones sounds dreamy  , and it would be great to have different options.

If you feel you would like to wear your ering all day every day, then maybe it would make more sense to put it in a setting where you won't be so worried about it getting damaged.

I agree with junebug. Rings with milgrain and pave need TLC. Of course, I really treat all my jewelry that way because I like it to stay in excellent condition and I hope to eventually hand it down in nice condition. The big question is would you miss the size that the halo gives you? I am afraid you might, and then you wouldn't be happy with the reset. Although a three stone is a nice compromise!

Let me say that I can totally relate, because I am trying to reset my solitaire now and waver back and forth between halo and antique style solitaire! You are RIGHT when you said there are too many good choices!!! (Oh, I do have a 5 stone band that I wear when I don't want to wear my set and consider it nice to have.)

The thing is I baby my rings and only wear them occasionally on the weekends when I'm going out. During the week I never put on any jewelry. When I met with ERD they told me this would happen and could happen again within 6 months. Had I known that before I did my reset I would've never went with that style. I wore my previous halo (same stone different setting) all the time and it showed very little wear. I asked ERD about the platinum mix they used thinking that was the reason but they insisted it wasn't. Regardless I don't feel comfortable wearing the ring. Since ERD fixed (April) it I've only worn it three times. It's just frustrating.

The more I look at it the more I'm growing tired of halos. I feel like I see them everywhere and I want something more classic that will still give me good finger coverage. I'm also concerned that my shared prong eternity band will feel similar to the five stone only on a smaller scale. I would sell that ring but it's my originally wedding band and I'm kind of attached to it.

My two options are: continue with the creation of the five stone ring or cancel it and place a new order for a three stone ring in the truth setting with either .40 or .50 side stones. Which do you think would give me more coverage?

Diamond seeker if I was you I wouldn't do a halo unless you work with someone really good and love the style.

I am one of the least experienced PSers so take my comments with a grain of salt. I love BG. I have pieces from them and I know whatever they make will be lovely. I think the .3 5 stone will be gorgeous but I see your point. I don't have a lot of jewelry but what I do have is very special to me and I want to be able to wear it without worrying about it. When I do, it reminds me of the special time/person it represents and that makes me happy. I love that so many people have so many beautiful pieces because that will likely never be me. It gives me the opportunity to see gorgeous jewelry and get inspiration for times when I am in the market for a particular item. The wealth of knowledge about design, execution, quality, resources, etc... is phenomenal. I love that! With that said, it would kill me for my ering to be in a setting I had to worry about wearing everyday. Reading your description makes it sound a bit like, you love your shared eternity band so really because you have something like that it is the ering you are looking to reconfigure to fill the void and that won't be helped by the 5 stone. Just my 2 cents.

I forgot to say I LOVE    that 3 stone you posted.

Ok, going by your additional information, it sounds like it might be a good idea to go with the 3 stone, and forego the 5 stone. It just doesn't seem to make sense to have a ring sitting in your jewelry box that you will never wear! If you are tired of the halo the 3 stone will be a good choice, you'll get some extra finger coverage with it. I think I'd go with the .5 stones.

I totally understand your dilemma!

For what it's worth, I am leaning towards the lovely 3 stone for you. I too am someone who wants to have great wearability in my pieces. I'm not really a special occasion piece person as I'd rather spend on pieces I can wear anytime and any day. That's just me! For my e-ring I want a style that I love to look at, but that's also functional for my lifestyle. Hence, I could never have delicate pave even though I think it's gorgeous. What I worry about is that if you go with the 5 stone, you'll be conflicted about not really wearing your e-ring and then you may have remorse over the 5 stone!! Or maybe not. :))

In any case, I think the 3 stone is beautiful and it could be a refreshing change for you that's also a bit more functional.

You could do the 3 stone reset now and if you're still really wanting a 5 stone, do that in a year or so for an anniversary.

And I like smaller side stones, so I'd go with 0.4, but either would be great.

There's some photos of his 3 stone trellis with a 1.5 ct center and 0.4 sides that's really nice. So I'd image your 1.2 with 0.4 to be just perfection!

I would cancel the 5 stone but I wouldn't reset it in a 3 stone just yet. If you love your
Halo but are too concerned about wearing it down, I would just wear it until that actually happens. At that point, I would reset it. If you reset now, what do you plan to do with the halo? You might as well enjoy it.

I'm in a hurry and didn't read through all responses to you and have no idea if this has been mentioned. If your ering and matching band is pave, you might want to wear a spacer between them. See if wear occurs. I hope it doesn't so that you can continue to wear your wedding set. It would be a waste to keep them locked away or reset into 3 stone when the solution might be a simple spacer. If wear continues to happen, at least you feel justified for the 3 stone reset. I think you need to cancel the 5 stone project and experiment with the spacer idea first.

I have worn a spacer when I've worn the two rings together. I actually prefer to wear my halo alone because I think it looks better by itself. I would continue to wear it until it wears down but it will bother me as soon as it does and I will constantly be worried about damaging it. It's either wear it on special occasions and use the five stone as my daily or reset to something more durable with good finger coverage like the three stone. I think my next step is to go try on some three stone rings again to see what I think. Bottom line I want to look down at my finger and love what I see and I don't do that now.

I only wish when I reset it back in April that I enterained something other than a halo.

Thanks for the advice, because I kind of needed that today! I do also kind of question their platinum alloy. If it was 95 platinum and 5 iridium, that is the softest alloy and I imagine it would show wear more.

I will say that I really love the three stone setting, and your diamond is the perfect center stone size at almost 7mm. You certainly can do either .40-.50 sides and still have the center stand out as larger. There usually are more .50 stones to choose from that .40s, but you'll have to see what they have in the color you need to match your diamond. I really think being able to wear your e-ring daily would be more important (to me, anyway), so I think I'd change the order!

I understand not wanting to wear a ring when some parts of the ring frustrates you. The same thing happened to me before. If that's the case, you might as well go for the 3 stone ring now. Imagine getting the 5 stone only to realise it doesn't scratch the itch of wanting to reset your original. That would be costly. Go try on some 3 stones and determine the best proportion for your finger and we look forward to your reset

Diamond seeker I think a lot has to do with the alloy mix they used even despite the fact that they told me it doesn't matter. I asked how frequently this could happen and they said as much as every six months. That seems absolutely ridiculous to me and is the exact reason I don't feel comfortable wearing it all the time. I'm leaning towards the three stone right now and love the fact that the truth allows you to stack diffrent bands with it. I was also looking at the crossed trellis but I think it would be harder to pair a band with that one.

BG definitely has more .50 vs .40 stones available which is fine. My center is an F color so I'd like to match the side stones in terms of color. Do I need to take into consideration that my center stone has strong blue fluorescence or should I not worry about that?

In terms of metal I know I want platinum but should I be as concerned about the mix in a setting like the truth?

Visited Tiffanys today and tried on a halo and three stone for comparison. Center stones in both were approximately 1.60 so slightly bigger than my 1.28.

Both rings are beautiful and the halo absolutely felt more durable than mine. With the three stone the women recommended side stones anywhere from .65 to .50. She did say to get the same color and look for stones that also have a stong blue fluorescence .

I just wanted to share with you that there are no hard and fast limits or rules to a three stone ring. If you are looking for optimum finger coverage you might want to do the 2:1 ratio but my side stones are significantly smaller than my center stone. My center is 2.22 with .33 side stones but even with a smaller center stone I did even smaller side stones. It really is a matter of personal preference so don't let anyone make you feel that it must be one size or another. I have loved having a three stone ring and hope you will too if you decide to go that route. I have a five stone anniversary ring for my right hand ring but in no way would I want it to be in place of my engagement ring. My vote is for you to first be happy with your engagement ring - the five stone can come later! I have attached a picture for reference regarding much smaller side stones - sorry the picture is so big but I wanted you to be able to see the size difference!

I don't have as many pieces as most other PSers. But I like wearability as well. So I would (personally) reset the engagement ring in a more wearable style and save the 5 stone for down the road. I LOVE both a 3 stone setting and a 5 stone band. But I would personally hate to have a piece just sitting in the drawer.
