As some of you know I've been looking to reset my M color pear. I've been thinking about possibly a split shank bezel (2 tone to play up warmth?). The only thing that I'm worried about is the bezel affecting the sparkle/glow. I've read most of the discussions on here about bezels. My diamond is on the shallow end (52.6%) so this is why I'm hesitant. I don't have any aset or idealscope images of it. Please let me know your honest opinions/suggestions. It will help me make a decision between the 2 settings I've been back and forth on.

This is how it's currently set, bottom half is encased. Which makes me think it might be ok in a bezel?

Here's the setting I'm looking at, open bottom...

I'm thinking about doing a 2 tone? Yellow gold bezel and white gold split shank...or plain white gold. Similar to this coloring

Cool setting plans! I have no idea about the effect but I like your style :)

I think a yellow bezeled halo in a style similar to your current setting would be gorgeous!

thank you both. My huband and I were talking about a plain setting and jazz it up with stacking bands. Maybe a yellow diamond half eternity

Would you consider a close bezel with the stone prong set...kind of like this...

I had a small OEC that had really nice sparkle....well, until I bezel set it. It still sparkles but it really darkened the stone up. When my
jeweler originally saw my OEC (before it was set) he said it looked like a G color. Then about a year later after I had it set he thought it
was a J/K (he forgot that he had seen it unset and given it a G color...like I was saying the bezel really darken the stone).

You know I think it really depends on your stone :(

If you are going to take the pear out, can you ask to jeweler to pop it into an empty in stock bezel setting and see if you like the effect of bezel on your diamond before you proceed.

Alternatively, you mentioned that the current setting half encases your diamond. Then all the ring is lacking is foil around its girdle to simulate the effect of bezel.

Yes something like that is on my idea board but I would have to custom another setting.

There is something I found similar it's listed as metal halo?

I live in a very small town so most of the jewelers don't have many settings to look at. They just give you a stack of books to look thru. I might call a couple and see what they say.

Yes, that's what I was thinking...a bezel wouldn't be too different than what I already have?

The difference is that the girdle isn't covered in the current setting.

The bezel affecting the diamond really does depend on your diamond and how the light will play through it. That said, I think the two tone idea could be really interesting, and might be perfect for your M colored stone. I have seen the use of white gold bands with a rose gold or gold bezel to complement M color diamonds which may be a great look - perhaps do some google images on those settings and see what you think.

Have you seen the Diamonds by Lauren bezeled pear settings? They are true bezels but if you have to go custom you can have it prong set with tiny claws
and then the bezel...I'm sure DBL could do it or David Klass.

with the split shank

Edit ...I'm not sure what your budget is but wonder what something like this would like like with a pear.
It may be too vintage for you. I would make the claw prongs petite.

Thanks, I'll see what I can find on google search.

I have seen DBL bezels. I heart anything DBL! I do like the idea of the claw bezel too. I think DK would be more in my budget.

I actually love vintage styling! I also have another setting in the running which is more vintage but I'm contemplating because of all the detail. If I went with this, I would do a plain band. The one they show with the ring is too much. It does have the bezel/prong look...seller can make for me in white gold but I didn't ask them if they could do 2 tone.

That's really pretty plpinkinsa! Two tone would be beautiful!

I also have a pear engagement ring...so hard to find settings for pears. I reset mine a couple
of years ago but I went with a simple setting...have to say I love it though and wish I had reset it sooner! I hope you do find the setting that you
really love. I second guessed my choice several times before I did it...I figured I wouldnt like it any less than the current setting it was in so I might
as well go for it (isnt that a sad attitude to have about a reset???) Well, I actually love it...who knew! I'm hoping you find that setting that really makes
your heart sing!

Thank you. I am feeling a exactly like you did. I'm scared to pull the trigger and have regret again. That's why I'm trying to keep it simple, but even simple is hard lol

My diamond is on the shallow end (52.6%) so this is why I'm hesitant.

The warm straw-yellow that shows on my screen is beautiful to me - the color of ripen grassland around here - so very Summer !

Would vote for a YG bezel of the kind that hug the girdle only [à la Lucida]; with a WG shank - perhaps simple rather than split. The maker of the ring may tell you if some details of the bezel construction could indeed enhance the color - if you do wish it further into yellow.

[not sure how to test what covering the girdle might do - perhaps paint it over ? - any opaque, washable thing could stick & leave no trace, but I can't say I have tried such a thing !]

Awesome information, thank you valeria! I wish I had all the settings I like and could put my diamond in every single one...:boohoo:
